I haven't been on here in awhile. I have an update on Charlie. He had his surgery may 31 for his front leg amp. He did well after and is doing chemo with carboplatin. His bloodchecks have been lower the 2 time so far, He was put on antibiotics both times for a week. So chemo has been every 4 weeks now. His third treatment is tomorrow. He also gets acupuncture when he goes for chemo.
He had his first lung x ray check tonight but we won't know the results until the chemo dr goes over them with us tomorrow. We just did a tech appointment at our normal vet and they send them over.

This past week he has just seemed a little more worn out then usual, after he finished his antibiotics.  He did have a chiro adjustment last weds and his remaining front leg was a little more achy in the wrist so I hope that was just why. or maybe the antibiotics are just a little rough on his system.

But then he hurt himself more over the weekend. He slipped down some carpeted stairs he usually does ok on. I don't know if he tried to go to fast or what. He slipped about 4 steps before I could lift him up 🙁 So  since then he's been more achy. He's also trained us to just give him 'breakfast in bed" more the past few days but whatever, I'm good with that as long as he it still eating!

We are going to get him to the chiro as soon as we can but it might not be until weds. I'm going to ask the chemo dr to do some acupuncture points to help with his pain and balance tomorrow. We've been giving him more Petreleaf oil and t-relief and massage and ice in the meantime.

I'm just more worried and sad today. I know we can't control cancer 🙁 we are doing as much as we can for him and stuff but its just a hard night for me, especially when he wimpers and I don't know what else to do for him. I'm also afraid what the lung xrays might show even though I know he will still be ok.

Is having a sort of lull/ down time normal when going through all the chemo? tomorrow is chemo 3 out of 5. I will be happy when the treatments are in the past 🙁

(i probably wont look at this until after his appt so I don't get too sad at work tomorrow)

Hey I'm so glad you updated. Overall Charlie sounds like he's holding his own, especially considering that his amputation wasn't really that long ago, less than two months? Well heck, I know I wouldn't be doing so hot if I were in his paws. So for a second, let's celebrate that Charlie is doing better than any human would, right? YAY!

Please let us know how the appointment goes tomorrow. We are sending lots of love and good wishes for an excellent report!

Oh no! I am so sorry. And I hate cancer so much.

What did the vet say? I'm guessing when you mentioned he whimpers occasionally that this is probably caused by metastasis pain?

For now, and I know this seems impossible but...try to do your best to remember that Charlie doesn't know what the tests said. He is the same dog, and he is still here with you and able to enjoy all that means so much to him in this world. You are at the top of his list. So stay strong as best you can for him, and know that you can vent here, and lean on us. We totally understand the feeling of knowing something that our animals are incapable of understanding, and the guilt that goes along with it.

I wish I could make this better. My heart hurts for you.

Thanks guys. He is our baby since we don't have kids. He's been with us for almost 10 years as my heart dog so its very difficult.
I am planning another call with my medium because I need to know if she can tell me anything to help with Charlie.

hard to say if the whimper was from pain of him slipping on the stair or other pain. Its hard to tell since its both kind of happening at once. 🙁

He got a iv injection of Zoledronic today. The plan is to start palladia later this week for two weeks to see how he tolerates it and also montitor his pain. She also said to use tramadol if we want.

The vet also does chinese herbs so we got two "pain blends" one is supposed to help more with bone pain. I don't know all of whats in them because its not on the bottle. She said we could do more x rays to check his back legs but they are too expensive there so we might do them at the regular vet if we need to but that doesnt change the plan of pain management 🙁

looks like I will be back on the "sick dog diet" such a horrible way to lose weight 🙁

Shaking my head in frustration.   Just catching  up on what's  going on with Charlie.

As Jerry said, it is so important  to remember  that this "news" means NOTHING to Charlie!  Je doesn't  care about any old xrays.  He doesn't  care about days on the calendar.

Charlie DOES care about continuing  to get his breakfast in bed! Charlie does care about being by your side for cuddles and tummy rubs! Charlie  DOES care about getting cheeseburgers, steak and ice cream!  You're  on the'"sick dog diet", not Charlie!!   😉

And a standing ovation to you for looking into treatment options, complimentary  therapies, etc! Some have had good results  with Palladia.   And if there are side effects, I think they pretty much disappear  if yoi stop.  Sweet Charlie is not planning on going anywhere  anytime  soon!

I've  read these posts a couple of times.  I really, really, really  believe  that part of what you're observing with Charlie is a result  of the stair tumble. possibly the chiropractor adjustment, as well as not feeling very chipper inbetween  rhe chemo treatments, etc.

Regardless of the cause, Tramadol should definitely  help him feel better.   I wouldn't  delay that, especially  if he's whimpering.  You can ask about Gabapentin  also.  I know the Vet has you on some herbs for pain,  but I'm  not sure they would be potent  enough to deal with his leg pain.  Maybe once you get it a bit better under control,  you can just continue  on with the Chinese herbs.

Also, ask about Rimadyl.   That can help with inflammation and has a small amount of pain relief  benefits.

STAY CONNECTED!! You've  got all of us sending  tons of pawsitive healing  energy to your sweet Charlie❤

Lots of hugs

PS..We would looooove to see some pictures or videos of Charlie being served his breakfast  in bed😎

Happy Hannah had a glorious additional bonus time of over one yr & two months after amp for osteo! She made me laugh everyday! Joined April's Angels after send off meal of steak, ice cream, M&Ms & deer poop!

Hi Charlie and family 🌸🐾

These are definitely not the news we were all hoping for ...

When you say it spread to the bone where is it exactly?

I ask this because sometimes it is possible to operate.

Angel Manni had a spread to his rib and if it was the rib the side of the missing front leg it could have been removed.

Please try to stay strong for Charlie, as others say he doesn't know anything about cancer and doesn't give a fig about what the vets say.

His life hasn't suddenly changed, he loves his family and his breakfasts in bed as much as before!

Sending you a big hug, sweetie, and tons of cuddles to your boy 😘🐮💫✨🌟🌹
