I would freeze chicken broth, tuna with the water or beef both in a ramaken or small container and let her lick it. Now, she may or may not. But I'd try. When you are sickly feeling and you have all the inflammation, something cold seems refreshing. It's just like you getting ice chips after surgery.
I hadn't thought to try frozen stuff, thank you for that suggestion. I have some broth she wouldn't take at room temp, so I'll freeze it in ice cube trays and give that a try. Thank you!

OMG that is seriously over the top! Wow! Where the heck did you find THAT?
Sounds like you could give us a lot of lessons with home cooking, I'm looking forward to hearing more.
Good luck tomorrow!

I fed a raw, prey-model diet to my three dogs for 6 years and was only grossed out by the thymus gland, very gushy, and the smell of tripe. But this never was Tshuvah's favorite…
Good grief, are you surprised that was never Tshuvah's favorite.
I'm gagging just imagining it!
That aside, Beth – what I really want to say is good luck with the vet appointment tomorrow.

LOL, I know, the stuff is disgusting. I think the thymus is called sweetbreads? Living in Taos, we have a grocery store with a lot of very inexpensive traditional hispanic foods and it was a gold mine for raw feeding. the tripe there was washed, however, for human consumption so I had to get green tripe on-line. I only got raw frozen tripe once, it was truly beyond the pale, I have never smelled anything so bad in my life. We've used canned tripe exclusively since then.
What can I say, my labs scarfed any disgusting stinky gushy thing. Tshuvah has always been my princess, above the fray, daintily taking her morsels and tidbits and rejecting the gross stuff. Except a fresh caught jackrabbit, that she would eat from stem to stern. Probably the healthiest meals of her life.
Tonight she ate some smoked dried chicken breast treats. Not truly a meal, but enough that I didn't have to syringe feed her. That was a relief for us both. I've never cooked exclusively for Tshuvah, she just gets her share of the healthy parts of our meals that she enjoys, like trout and salmon. She prefers EVO dry mixed with any grain-free variety of Weruva canned to anything else, except for the occasional turkey neck.
OK, enough of that…thank you all for the good wishes tomorrow. I'll let y'all know.

Hi all, just back from the vet. Tshuvah had her staples removed! She also showed a 5 lb weight loss in a week (not counting the amputation). We're keeping her on sucralfate and the appetite stimulant and d/c'ing all other meds, with tramadol PRN but not scheduled.
On Thursday we will see Dr. Kelly at the Veterinary Cancer Center in Santa Fe. Path report due tomorrow.
Thanks!

Maybe the appetite will pick up now. Trouble lost 14 lbs from her surgery date until her last chemo, but she was hefty to start with. Did the vet seem concerned the weight loss?

Thanks for the update! Now that Tshuva's off all the meds, hopefully her appetite will return. Please tell Dr. Kelly "Hi" from Jim & Rene.

Yea staples out!!!
Hopefully that alone with improve her mood. And decreasing all those other meds should help too.
I think its a good sign from yesterday that she ate some on her own. I know what you mean by feeling relief that she ate- I can't believe how happy I was on those occasions that Mag ate what I offered her.
I hope the path report comes back with no surprises, and good luck at the vet on Thursday.
Hang in there Beth, you're doing fine!!

Yes, our vet is concerned about the weight loss. Tshuvah was a perfect weight before all this started, and she's definitely looking a bit thin now. The up-side is that its better to be slender as a tripawd, right?!

Much. All vets will recommend keeping three legged dogs slimmer than before their amputation.
