AWE.... he looks great!!!!

In the end (and I am not suggesting you guys are there since your issue is 100% different) I had to express Shelby's bladder too. Shelby wasn't having issues due to being a tripawd but rather the end of life issues that came w/her passing... but yup, the things we do for them.

And now that I know how to do that on a female dog, when Jasper refuses to pee in a timely manner, I have once or twice, expressed her bladder .. she is definitely NOT a fan!

Theo looks great!!! Such a handsome boy! Good luck w/chemo!

Hugs!

Alison with the Spirit of Shelby fur-ever in her heart (and little Jasper too)

Our story: Broke rear leg in June 2013 - non-conclusive results for cancer so leg was plated and pinned. Enlarged spleen in September 2013 and had it removed and was diagnosed with Hemangiosarcoma and started chemotherapy. Became a Tripawd January 8th, 2014 and definitive Hemangiosarcoma diagnosis. Three major surgeries in 7 months and Shelby took them all like a champ only to lose her battle to cancer in her brain. We had 8 amazing extra months together and no regrets. #shelbystrong #loveofmylife

OH you handsome boy! I just want to smoosh you and kiss your gorgeous fur!

Manually expressing his bladder makes sense, did they give you any indication if this will be short term thing that you won't have to do when his pain decreases as he recuperates? Did they show you how to do it? I know there are lots of videos on YouTube but is there one you found that's more helpful?

Well here's to YOU, for being such a good pawrent to him. The recovery ride isn't always easy but thankfully it's usually very short term.

P.S. If he's only getting tramadol occasionally, it can be more beneficial if he receives it regularly on a schedule, even if only in smaller amounts. The goal is to prevent the "wind up" pain that comes on hard and fast, since it takes more pain meds and time to alleviate it. If your vet hasn't mentioned this I would ask about putting him on a regimen.

Theo...you are one HANDSOME boy!!  I just want to give you a hug!!

Hopefully, Theo will become more comfortable in his Tripawd stance so mom doesn't have to "express the bladder" for a long period of time.

And Alison,

That is too funny that you do this to Jasper when she doesn't pee "in a timely manner".  I started chuckling when I read that...aw-shucks

The primary vet didn't want to put Theo on more meds, but the oncologist did! He's now on Gabapentin. She thinks it's a lower back issue. In other Theo news, first day post chemo...he enjoyed the sunshine, ate lots of food, AND sported his tripawd bandana! big-grin

We are seeing Dr. Alexis Denysyk at VCA-VRA in Gaitherburg, Maryland. I believe this is her first year out of residency. She is good!

Hey SnaggleFamily, I can't resist asking if you have a kitty? Named, what else? Snagglepuss? If not, you need one...

Snaggle/Theo is gorgeous. Hope the pee situation improves. I had challenges with my tri-kitty Mona and her peeing - every where (including my desk drawer) but not in the litter box. We'll join in with the pee-pee dance when Snaggle succeeds!

By the way I took Mona (front leg amputee also) to a vet for chiropractic session to align her spine as she was starting to stand with her right shoulder forward and her toes pointing in. The vet showed me how to massage her spine.

Happy looking pup you have there.

Thanks for the info about Dr. Denysyk. Gotta love the forward-thinking vets that are just out of school! The clinic you're working with looks fabulous, what a large group of docs, that's so beneficial.
