Hi all.  Tanner had his surgery today and it went well.  He is on a morphine drip until morning and then he will come him in the afternoon.  I am preparing myself for seeing him for the first time but more than anything I am happy that by removing that leg he will be pain free.  We dont know how much time he will have left with us but we are going to show him so much love and fun while he IS here.  Thank you all for your support; we will keep you posted.

Amy we were just thinking about him and you, so glad to hear that he made it through the first hurdle. Yipee! You have a great attitude, and with that kind of pawsitive energy, everything will be A-O-K.

Hey, isn't today Tanner's birthday? Happy Birthday Tanner!

Let us know how it goes tomorrow, and if you  need anything, we're here.

Hi Amy.

I'm glad to hear Tanner came through ok. I'm sure the drip has him resting comfortably and he will get much needed rest tonight.

When he comes home, take it slow and remember the first 2 weeks are like a roller coaster, you have very high highs & very low lows. It will pass and get better with each day, even though sometimes you may not feel that.

Anything that puzzles you, either call your vet or come here to see if any of us have experienced it. Just come if you need a shoulder.

Happy Healing to you & Tanner!

Seconding what Janie and Calamity said!  I'm one week post-amp today and this adjustment phase can be really challenging, but there are also many baby steps in progress being made all the time.  It really is a roller coaster!

Mom says to warn you that it's like bringing home a newborn baby, and you might not get much sleep in the beginning.  Mom was worried sick because I would spend lengthy periods at night wide awake and panting...and then she discovered that this is a common side-effect of Tramadol.  So if Tanner's doc prescribes Tram, don't be alarmed if it makes him pant a lot.  Mom has been experimenting with my dosing schedule all week long and finally figured out that I do best with one Tramadol every three hours.

Poor mom...getting up every three hours all night long to give me my medicine.  Pawrents of tripawds deserve to be canonized!  Innocent

We think you have a great attitude when you say, "We dont know how much time he will have left with us but we are going to show him so much love and fun while he IS here."  I'm sure Tanner appreciates your love and devotion more than you'll ever know Laughing

Best wishes to my fellow novice tripawd!  Mom and I wish you courage and an abundance of healthy, happy time together with your new tripawd.

Glad to hear Tanner made it through his amp surgery and is resting.  Does he come home today?  Jake was in the hospital for 5 and 1/2 days which was torture but he had difficulty clotting so he was losing a lot of blood.  He was receiving excellent care at the hospital but I just wanted my baby home and recovering with me of course.  However, everything turned around (thank God) and he came home and is now (22 days after amp surgery) doing great.  He just had his staples removed on Monday and will be going in for his first chemo treatment on this Friday.   Big hugs to Tanner and you and please keep us posted regarding his recovery.  You have certainly come to the right place!  Tripawds.com rocks!  Laughing
