Glad he's feeling better today; yes, this journey is full of ups and downs for sure. I am curious, though....if the decision was totally yours to make, how would you proceed? We've heard Paul's take on things, I'm just wondering what YOU would do if it were up to you. Individuals have very different ideas, for very different reasons, and I'm curious to hear yours. Hugs and prayers that he continues to be his happy self.

Paula and Warrior Angel Nitro

Nitro 11 1/2  yr old Doberman; right front amp June 2014. Had 6 doses carboplatin, followed by metronomic therapy. Rocked it on 3 legs for over 3 years! My Warrior beat cancer, but couldn't beat old age. He crossed the Bridge peacefully on July 25, 2017, with dignity and on his terms.  Follow his blog entitled "Doberman's journey"

Yaay for a better day and as far as Paul? I agree with head in the sand type of deal, I know he loves that boy and maybe that is how he copes?

You cannot be the first couple that does not agree on what route to go here? I can tell you it took Mark years before he trusted my instinct and fortunately for us he knows now to trust my intuition if I see something is off there are no questions! Cause like it or not our instincts are right! We have that sense a blessing and a curse I believe!

Mark has no helpful input for you either I asked and zip? I wish we did!

Like you said as long as Stewie is comfy and your seeing improvement then that is what matters. Can you get the meds refilled if needed? Can Paul see he needs the meds? Yes?

Anytime you see something maybe point it out? I don't know what to advise you are in what I call a sticky wicket!

Trying to lighten it up a tiny bit and it's not a light matter!

Here is to more beef jerky, bully sticks, hedgies and spoilt rotten years and less overdoing Stewie K?

That is our boy there he looks GREAT!

We will continue to send love and support good juju and prayers.

Shhhh......CONFIDENTIAL.....Dear PAUL!   Yes, dear PAUL!   I just want you to know you have an ally of one!way-cool  I completely understand how you are processing things and the reasons behind your position!!!way-cool

Given Stewie's history with this issue and given the fact that he IS improving with rest and meds, he  does appear to be on the road to recovery!!  And an owwee here and there is to be expected.  Of course I'm not a Vet, but this is similar, very similar, to what Dr Laurie observed in Stewie before and treated accor.  It tkes weeks to FULLY recover.........not days.  The sprain...pulled muscle...pinched nerve....inflammed disc...whatever...could POSSIBLY be helped by maybe adding a steriod, but that woukd HAVE to be with a Vet's okay.

Shhhh....Paul.  Only suggesting this to help satisfy Petra....shh.....Is it possible you ccouldcall Dr Laurie, even though she's retired, and ask her "opinion" strictly from a ppersonal capacity???  I know I've called my retired Vet before and have asked his PERSONAL opinion before.

Okay, thanks for keeping our secret.winker

Happy Hannah had a glorious additional bonus time of over one yr & two months after amp for osteo! She made me laugh everyday! Joined April's Angels after send off meal of steak, ice cream, M&Ms & deer poop!

Paula and Warrior Angel Nitro

Paula, you ask a question that is very close to my heart my darling... and the reason for my many many tears yesterday!!!

In my pre-marriage days i had a major issue with my Keiko girl (a beautiful chocolate SharPei)... i couldn’t afford to go through with her spinal surgery, she was completely paralyzed in her back legs due to two of her discs being melded together... if i could have afforded it i would have... but it wouldn’t have been wise at that time in my life, as the after care would have meant me taking a leave of absence at work and the bill would never have been paid... i made the decision to say goodbye to her! When Paul and i started dating, my cat Odus got really sick with hyperthyroidism and Renal failure. I myself couldn’t afford the treatment of the radiation and the subsequent subcutaneous fluids that we gave him for the next two years of his beautiful life... Paul helped me with the cost and we helped Odus to the best degree that we could, he lived to be an incredible 19 years young!

i guess I’m telling you this because Me, Myself and I will ALWAYS want to fix EVERYTHING!!! I am the type of person that likes to have a plan... i like to know that all the t’s have been crossed and that all of the i’s are being dotted, but life doesn’t always let us do that and i have to accept that my meticulous self can not always get what i want, not because it will fix things, but because my fixings won’t change a bloody thing! We have the liberty of deciding how the lives of our fur kids is going to play out sometimes... is it always the right choice, i don’t know...

Both Paul and i agreed that when we were offered the choice of amputation vs palliative care, we obviously chose amputation. We chose to give him 5 rounds of Carboplatin to give him our best chance and We knew then that we were buying time and that we would be grateful for whatever time we would be given after that... that was both of our heart choices at the time and i do still stand by that! As hard as that is...

I am continuing with Orthodox-bionomy and Accupuncture. I will continue with the meds as needed and we are going to try CBD oil for both Stewie and Spikey. We are going to have to go to a human dispensary as CBD oil is not legal in Canada as of yet. It is slowly being introduced to Humans as an alternative medicine and i say Hallelujah to that!!!! I had asked Dr. Laurie about it, but although she agrees with the use of it, it is not legal for her to dispense! The dispensary’s are in Vernon, so we will check them out in a couple of weeks.

All that i really want and i will find the right time to go with or without Paul, is to meet the woman who is going to be a huge part of my furmily’s lives... i hope later than sooner! So Paula in answer to your question... for better or worse, i would go to the moon and back for Stewie, but i also have to respect Paul’s wishes and in this we have come to a compromise.

love to all

Petra xxx

Yes, definitely how he copes... if you guys could see what i see when he is with his kids... ❤️

Most defiitely a blessing and a curse my darling! Paul knows that i am a super sensitive being, i can not change that!!!

Mark has no helpful input for you either I asked and zip? I wish we did!

Paul is just being Paul and i love him to pieces, but none of us can ever get into another head can we?!! Thanks for trying Mark, sorry you had to go through that! Hehe just a kid! (Also trying to lighten things up my friend! 😉

Like you said as long as Stewie is comfy and your seeing improvement then that is what matters. Can you get the meds refilled if needed? Can Paul see he needs the meds? Yes?

Whether he sees it or not, the meds are a necassary evil. When Stewie needs more i will just go and get it... the Metacam has always been Stewies go-to medicine for his ‘neck’ issues, that should’t change now... The Gabapentin has always been recommended by Dr. Laurie and Dr. Bill as a go-to for his phantom pain episodes. At this time i am using both... CBD will be added within a couple of months and the hope is to get him off the other meds and keep him on the oil... we will have to see how it all works together...

Anytime you see something maybe point it out? I don't know what to advise you are in what I call a sticky wicket!

I will definitely be showing him all that i see, he has asked for that!! Thankfully!!!

Sally you bring tears to my eyes and a fullness to my heart reading this!!!! 💕 Thankyou!!!

Again, i thank you. Stewie has had longstanding issues with what appears to be his neck problem... we have always thought it was because of the way he escaped from his previous enclosures in his previous life with other guardians, jumping over fences and off balcony’s is not good for a big fella. Is this a reacurring injury? We have never been able to pin point it’s origin. Is it a reactive response to other pains? I don’t know the answer to that... The Metacam has always been his go-to drug of choice for this issue and it seems to be doing its job once again... lets hope it continues to do so...!

Unfortunately this is not going to be an option! Believe me i would if i could!!! Dr. Laurie and Dr. Bill have moved out of town, for obvious reasons really... if they were to stay they would never get away from being a vet in this small town of Nakusp! They have been the town hero’s for nearly 28 years!!!

Okay, thanks for keeping our secret.winker

Thank you Sally! You know how hard this is... especially when so many are peeking into my home... I know that I can receive the best and most caring advice on here and so that is what helps me keep my door ajar...

A major thanks to all of you for hearing me and understanding that i am sharing this, not to receive any kind of sympathies or anything, (i would rather actually keep my ‘boudoir’ closed!) but i want people to realize that this is tough on everyone in the household, whether we can slow things down or not, this 💩 is never going to go away and it effects us all in one way or another.

many hugs and love to you Sally, thanks for everything you guys!!!

Petra and her big fella who is feeling pretty good this morning!

I'm glad you two have reached a compromise. We all need a "voice of reason" in our lives (as Sally calls my husband John). I just want you BOTH to be comfortable with things now and in the future. John will reign me in if i spin out of control, and he doesn't always see the things that I do with the dogs, and has learned to trust me when i say something is "off".

As for the CBD... we used it with Nitro, and I found a website that I really liked, maybe it could work for you in Canada too. Its healthyhempoil.com

I used the paste, which comes in a syringe, the blue label is "normal" strength, the gold label is stronger. Check it out to see if it will ship to you.

Paul, that was an excellent question earlier!

And Petra, your answer was very insightful!   Petra, "this" situation does not equal "that" situation in the past.  "This" situation is bringing up all the motions of "that" situation in the past.  Make sense??

Separate the two.   That was then....this is now.

Once you are able to do that, I think you can see "this" situation in an isolated way that applies to this specific issue that Dr Laurie and Dr Bill have apparently  identified and treated.

Re-read yiur reply.  Chock full of insight.  It also reminds you of your plan for Stewie from the get-go.  Always good to re-visit that.

Based on your updates, Stewie is HAPPY, FEELING BETTER AND EATING LIKE A CHAMP!!   No tug-a-Hedgie for a while longer though!

Thanks  being so open.  I never knew I would be peeking I to anyone's bedroom at this age...or ever!  Quite fun!way-cool

Paul is most definitely the ‘voice of reason’ in this house! I react instinctively and sometimes that is not a healthy way to react right?! He is my ground for sure! We absolutely don’t always agree, but we can kiss each other goodnight and know that we have done the best in our day! I have always been right on in my ‘seeing’ of things, it just takes Paul a bit longer to come to terms with things...

I will check out this source for sure! Thankyou!

I have tried getting in touch with a couple of suppliers and both have said that they can not ship over the boarder at this time due to Canadian regulations. The laws are changing this year in British Columbia as far as the legality towards Cannabis in general, i don’t know how this is going to effect the shipping of product across the border, as this is only a Provincial change in laws.

We have human dispensaries that you have to sign your life away when you walk in the door, but we are willing to try this route for sure!

Paula, i just checked healthyhempoil.com and Canada and Mexico are the only two countries that they do not ship to due to regulations! I do hope this will change in the near future!

Thankfully, they are at least allowing the Hemp shops in B.C. and allowing us to at least get the human grade CBD oil. This is what we are going to go for and then find out the usage per kg. Paul looked it up before, but we will be double checking it on different sites to be sure of our dosage that we will be trying. It’s the best we can do up here in good old Canada!

thanks again Paula, this site also has some great information for us to read!

Hugs from Petra and Stewie

Paul, that was an excellent question earlier!

Doubt that it needs clarifying, vut obviously I meant our PaulA, not your Paul...without an "A"!

Anyway, you techie people with good brains, didn't Jerry just do a vlog  on CBD oil, or am I having an "imaginary moment" yet again?  Anyway, SOMEWHERE, there are posts here.  I "thought" I read that human grade is NOT to be used, otherwise I'd send you some of mine!.  way-coolwinkerclown.  I KNOW you alredy know that.  But it just seems like that "imaginary" article contained a lot of good links.  PaulA's probably already sent you those above.
