So this morning was the first time my husband and I had to work since Ranger had his amp on Friday. Everything seems to be healing well but we decided to put on his cone on just so we could be sure he would not mess with his stitches. We have a pet sitter who comes in the middle of the day to let out the dogs and play with them for a bit. When he left at 315pm everything seemed to be in order. When I arrived home at 630pm more than half his stitches were pulled. I have no idea how he managed it, considering his cone was still on. The wound is still closed and we have an appointment with the vet at 830 in the am to see if she wants to add stitches. They weren't supposed to be removed until Monday. I was just wondering if anyone had experienced this on day 4 after surgery?

Sorry, I have no experience in stitches being pulled. My kitty Mona did not bother with her staples/stitches, other than scratching at the drain, and didn't have to wear a cone. If she seemed itchy I cleaned any gunk with a wet cloth. I'm sure the vet will fix her up tomorrow.

I hate to blame anyone, but I can't resist, McCoy the sibling did it - he wants to play! laughing

RANGER!!! YOU NAUGHTY BOY!!! And with your cone on? That's ine for the books!!
You mentioned dogS in the plural. Is it possible one of the other dogs could have done this?

Andnyes, it does indeed happen....even with the most attentive care!! I guess there is another layer underneath these. I'm guessing he would have to be re-stitched. AND...I'M NO VET and, fortunately, I didn't have this issue with Happy Hannah.

Others will chime in with more insight.

When you can, tell us more about RANGER. His avatar icture is so cute!

Keep us updated! We are here to help anyway we can!

Oh no! Well to answer your question, Ranger isn't the first nut who's done this, it's happened before. Some dogs can just get around that collar. Our Wyatt Ray is one of them. We had to double cone him when he's had surgery! (he hates this embarrassing pic but I hope it makes you smile!)

Oh Wyatt!! DOUBLE CONE???? You are one of a kind Wayatt. I don't think your thought bubble could be repeated in a family setting!

Ranger...get ready for the double cone! It's coming my friend!!

My Jake did this just a couple days after a biopsy of his tumor (it was a large incision). Pulled every single stitch out...sending us off to the emergency vet. They told us that there was another layer of stitches underneath so there was no concern and just left it be. When his amp occurred, we got one of the softer (donut type just like in Wyatt's picture) collar which seemed to work better for him. Those other ones can be a bit flimsy. I'm on Sally's side here, maybe the brother did it. I mean, look at that cute face, I think he's innocent laughing

My Leland had gotten 3 of his staples out...I think around day 9.  The staples he had gotten to were in the middle of the incision.  His amp site was healing from the outside edges toward the middle so where he'd gotten to needed to be re-stapled.  It was really simple for the vet to do.

Leland didn't get his staples removed till day 14 because he was slower in healing.

Hopefully all goes well for Ranger and he doesn't get into further mischief with his stitches.

Ranger looks innocent but definitely is not. His brother was in his crate the whole time. He did however end up at the vet this morning and got about 15 staples put in. They also gave him a bigger cone to prevent future mishaps. Vet thinks he managed to push it down far enough to get his snout over. Shame on him! Otherwise he's healing well. Stitches and staples will come out Monday and then we have our first round of chemo on Wednesday.
