They are doing debrisment surgery. I should know more this afternoon when I pick him up. Β Hopefully this will help heal the infection. Β They said that the dead skin could be causing the infection and preventing it from healing.

I know it srinks that Bosco has to have this done, but it IS a solution that should move him forward now in recovery!

This should take care of getting that hurdle out of the way!!

Look forward ro your update. And. Ake sure you conifrm DIRECTLY with the Vet abput the antibiotics he will now be given and which type of infection they are geared towards. And ask about the MRSA test also.

Lots of hugs!

So we went to the vet yesterday. Β They confirmed the type of infection which is not MRSA ! Β He is on the right antibiotics. Β And they gave us a refill. Β He did have some necrotic skin and so they did do the debrisment surgery. Β  They also added a drain. We go back Friday to check his progress and the vet expects the drain can come out Friday. Β We're hoping that he'll be recovering for another week and then can start chemo. Β  He seems to be in good spirits this morning.Β

The vet bills have been huge. Β I've looked into you applying for support through various foundations but we don't live at the poverty level and so we don't qualify. Β Any tips on covering vet bills? Β  I'm selling things on eBay and my husbands working extra hours. I work for the school system so I'm lucky to be on summer vacation and Bosco doesn't have to be alone. Β  Β I also have a couple pieces of jewelry that I plan to sell. Β  And I have a small business on eBay and Etsy and all of that money has been going towards vet bills. Β  We canceled our cable which saved a lot of money. Β  Any other ideas?

OKAY, GOOD NEWS!! No mrsa and on the road to recovery (again)! Onward and upward!!

We u derstand all too well the financial fiasco. I don't jave any links to specific organizations, but do whatever it takes and speak with whomever you need to speak with to try and get in a payment plan. I did that with my Happy Hannah and I've done it when I've had to take dogs to the ER where it's just a million dollars to walk in the door...or seems like it anyway!!

Hopefully others can offer more input.

You are a wonderful advocate for Bosco and doing a GREAT job of staying on top of things!! Good job!! Soooo glad he's kn the road to recovery!!!

Hugs

Admin, thank you! Β I'll look into it. Β It seems like you have to live pretty close to poverty to qualify for most of them which knocks us out. Β My husband and I both work but student loan debt is killing us. Β Anyway, thanks for the info. Β

Sally, thanks for the support. Β It's such a stressful situation and finances definitely compund the stress. Β Yes those emergency visits are crazy expensive. Β I took Bosco last weekend to change his pressure bandage. Β It was 30$ just for that. Β It needed to be done but gosh after the thousands of dollars we have already spent it would have been nice if they cut us a break.

He is doing well today. Β He was pretty spunky this morning after he worked the kinks out of his back legs. Β

If you haven't already you can always try applying for a loan. We weren't approved for care credit and were running out of options. They were very hesitant (school loans, not so great credit, high dti ratio) but after putting up our car as collateral (thank goodness they didn't want an appraisal) they were able to help us out and wrote a check directly to the animal hospital we're having Zuzu treated at. Luckily the vet we're using has no problem with that or that the check was written for a little more than the procedure (to allow for extra costs) and we will just have a credit on our account after surgery.

I know it's not ideal for everyone but it might be an option. Good luck and glad to hear Bosco is doing well!

Good news! Β The tube came out yesterday and then removed some of the stitches. Β He goes back Monday for a re-check and will hopefully start chemo at the end of this week. Β Things are getting back on track.Β
