Glad he is doing better! I KNOW recovery seems like it is taking forever with all these ups and downs, but it eventually becomes all up!

You are a strong advocate for your Adam! He's a lucky boy...and a handsome one too! Make sure you're taking care of yourself too, okay?

Extra treats all around!

You guys will laugh, but Adam is barking again :)  When we left this morning for work my husband and I got barked at.  He also has figured out how to remove the dressing and we are using loose vet wrap to keep him from tearing his dressing off.

The fentanyl patch comes off today.  We will continue with the rest of the pain meds for him though.

Awww! Yay Adam! Now don't tell your people but you know all those "obedience" things they tried to teach you? Well you can slack off now, Tripawds get away with everything!

Glad the patch comes off, you'll see a difference. Watch that he doesn't eat the dressing, it's mighty tasty to doggies.

Survey says E. coli!  Sigh...and we cleaned the bathroom good!!!  But it is an insidious organism and not the worst thing it could be.

Also took the fetenyl patch off tonight.  Removing that hurt him :( But it's off now and we continue with the Cipro and take him off the Amoxy from his list of meds.

He fell tonight in the bathroom and cried out :(   I rushed in there but he was okay by the time I got there.  Poor guy.

I promise to get more pictures!  I've got plenty of picture of the incision :P

Yeah Adam...you are  a feisty baby. Phew about the ecoli... much better than it could have been.  Stumbles and falls will happensad, not pleasant but it all part of learning how to balance on 3 legs.  You will be surprised at how soon you don't feel awkward seeing him as a tripawd.  Keep up the good work!

Oh sometimes bugs just happen, it's not from a lack of cleaning your bathroom. At least you got it diagnosed and treated, those a/bs should knock it right out.

It's hard to see them fall, but it's always harder for the human that's for sure. I know Adam's going right back to hopping on!

Other than a bunch of fluid that decided to drain while we were changing his dressing he's doing good.  Gag, it had chunks of dead tissue in it.  It'll be a while before that fistula heals up if he's anything like me.

Adding to this whole life adventure is the fact that my MIL broke her femur in multiple places.  She's now sporting a 9" titanium rod.   Right now Jer can't leave as I can't change the dressing by myself :(   Nor could we travel so far (4.5 hours away) with him with us AND the rest of the herding crew.

MIL is doing good.  She's been transferred to a rehab facility closer to her home.

Adam is scheduled to get his stitches out Thursday, until then we keep the surgeon updated with photos.

Have a feeling until that fistula is healed he will continue to wear the cone of shame .

My shelties historically have needed LARGER cones than one would think necessary to accommodate those pointy noses.  The comfy cone doesn't cut it with these guys, they are CREATIVE!!!  I put  my first sheltie in a lab size cone with a shirt over the backside to protect his neuter stitches.  He was an oversize sheltie but STILL!!!!

Honestly I'm afraid that the soft cone they will figure how to scrunch it up and the others I can imagine them puncturing.

The stitches are now out, HUZZAH!  But the scab over where the infection drained has not fallen off so more lampshade wearing until that comes off which should be the weekend.  He has worn a cone for 3 weeks plus now and I know ALL of us will be happy when it is gone.

I had to laugh at this.  My pug Maggie had such a short nose and a rather large buddha belly that she couldn't reach her rear leg amp incision and so didn't need any kind of cone!

Yay for stitches out.  Hang in there Adam- you are almost free!
