I am not looking for anyone to be negative...I know the statistics...my girl is six years old and was barely limping when we took x rays and saw something suspicious on her right front leg...I went with the aggressive approach and amputated...blood was normal urine was normal and the only symptom was the slight limp and the x ray...her lung xrays were clear...had to wait almost three weeks for the biopsy to return and they said osteosarcoma...we start our first chemo tomorrow...(I will tell you I've already lost a dog to a different cancer that the vet gave him three months and he lived 15 months and have my retired patrol dog who has been retired for over four years surviving a foreign body surgery and is approaching is 13th birthday...so I don't go with the statistics...) I have started her on K9 Immunity Plus, she was already on a grain free homeopathic food, omega oils and tumeric powder...she will be seeing a chiro accupuncturist as well as doing some chinese herb treatments...any success stories that beats the statistics?  Please only positive stories, as I am a realist police officer and need positive stories only as she is my baby...

Hi Laceydog, welcome! I'm so glad you posted and very happy that Lacey is doing so well.

Well, we have tons of great success stories to keep you hoppy and pawsitive! Including our Jerry's; he beat osteo for two years without chemo so yay! And there are so many others, here are just a few:

And this is just a start! Try searching the Tripawds Blogs for even more.

We can't wait to hear more about your amazing pack. Thanks for all your service, we are honored to have your pack with us!

Welcome to you and Lacey.

I have a local pal, Cemil, who has survived over 5 years after his front amp for OSA.  He is a 150 pound Anatolian Shepard who did not do chemo.  He is slowing a bit now, as the hoping has taken a toll on his big body, but he is still enjoying life cancer free.

And if you don't mind a non-OSA survival story- my little pug Maggie lost her left rear leg to mast cell cancer.  With chemo her prognosis was 6 to 9 months as lots of cancerous mast cells were found in the lymph node removed with her leg.  Mag lived almost 4 years and did not pass from mast cell cancer.

Having been there with your other pup I'm sure you know that you stay positive and optimistic until there is a real reason not to be.  It took me awhile but I finally learned that with Maggie.

I'm looking forward to hearing more about you and Lacey and following her journey.

There are LOTS of positive stories here and lots of positive people! We believe in the power of positive thinking for sure!!! My girl, Shelby, didn't have OSA but another cancer and she beat her statistics ... in part to chemo and in part to a lot of positive energy... it sounds like your Lacey is surrounded by a lot of that!

We look forward to learning more!

Hugs,

Our story: Broke rear leg in June 2013 - non-conclusive results for cancer so leg was plated and pinned. Enlarged spleen in September 2013 and had it removed and was diagnosed with Hemangiosarcoma and started chemotherapy. Became a Tripawd January 8th, 2014 and definitive Hemangiosarcoma diagnosis. Three major surgeries in 7 months and Shelby took them all like a champ only to lose her battle to cancer in her brain. We had 8 amazing extra months together and no regrets. #shelbystrong #loveofmylife

Howdy and welcome!!

I can truly say there is no place more positive than Tripawds. The members here are incredible. It's our mission to make sure we don't forget to stay positive and to love deeply. We have to be brave on the behalf of our fur-babies as we are their advocates for care and well-being. The emotional roller-coaster is a real thing. But what makes it bearable is knowing you're not on the ride alone, never.

I think everyone I've "met" on Tripawds is both positive and a realist! We've all heard the same statistics when we get an OSA diagnosis. But that doesn't stop us from enjoying every single extra moment we get w/ our pups. In fact, the whole experience is a lesson in what really matters-----you love her and you'll be there for her no matter what. You've taken the biggest step by amputating and giving her a chance to be pain free. Don't regret that decision no matter what the future brings.

Denise, Bill and Angel Ellie.

Active 10+ Pyr mix suddenly came up lame with ACL tear in left rear leg. Scheduled for a TPLO but final pre-op x-rays indicated a small suspicious area, possibly OSA, which could have caused the ACL tear. Surgeon opened the knee for TPLO but found soft bone. Biopsy came back positive for OSA. Became a Tripawd 9/18/14. Carbo6 with Cerenia and Fluids. Pain free and living in the moment. Crossed the Bridge on 7/12/15 after probable spread of cancer to her cervical spine. A whole lifetime of memories squeezed into 10 months. Here's her story: Eloise

A great positive attitude surrounding Lacey is sooo powerful for her healing! you've already experienced that firsthand with your other beloved dogs.

We don't pay attention to statistics or prognosis around here and our dogs could care less about any of that "stuff"! They live in the moment and in the now! Lacey sure doesn't have any timeframe stamped anywhere on her butt!

You've gotten great support and advice from everyone already. Jerry gave you some links and my Happy Hannah was one of those links. There were some "issues"....like probable lymph node involvement that, as I was told from the Onco with gloom in her voice, "Certainly changed her prognosis...and not for the better".
She and I had the most glorious one year and two months of loving and spoiling anyone could ever imagine!!! She blew their gloomy prognosis out of the water!

I also put Hppy Hannah on K9 Immunity Plus, Apocaps , fish oil, bone meal, mostly home cooking ( organic chicken, veggies, sardines) mixed in with Honest Kitchen) and sometimes kibble (grain free Evo, Orijen, Merrick).

Another supplement you might check out..mushroom therapy...and I never can spell it..InYunnity...others will clarify that for ya'!

Would LOVE to see more pictures of Lacey.and her "brother"! And thank you..and your patrol buddy, for your service.

Love to all!

Sally and Alumni Happy Hannah and Merry Myrtle too!

Another story to check out...Atlas, a Great Dane. If I recall, TWO vets wanted to euthanize Atlas as they didn't think he coukd handle the amputation (osteo.) and wouldn't live very long anyway. Atlas crossed over after TWO YEARS of living a spectacular life on tnree legs!

Happy Hannah had a glorious additional bonus time of over one yr & two months after amp for osteo! She made me laugh everyday! Joined April's Angels after send off meal of steak, ice cream, M&Ms & deer poop!

Hi there! My borzoi, Winter, is 2 years old, and lost his rear right leg to Osteosarcoma 7 months ago. He just had his 6 month x-ray and it was clear! Since his diagnosis, Winter was placed on a raw diet from the rescue group that funded his operation. He eats 2 lbs of organic chicken thighs per day, with a couple of tablespoons of coconut oil, plus NuPro. Once a week, we add an organ to his meal 🙂 His vet is a huge fan of the raw diet, she said that he looks and sounds amazing. His coat looks phenomenal, his teeth are perfect, and his weight is awesome. https://www.fac.....terTallDog

We're so glad to hear Winter is doing well. Check out the story of Radar, a fellow Borzoi who had an amazing three legged life!

You might want to consider sharing Winter's diet here in Eating Healthy, I know others including myself would love to hear more.

Hi Laceydog, welcome!

I consider our story a success, as we are over 15 months post amp for osteosarcoma with our Dobe Nitro. He had Chinese herbs, 6 doses of carboplatin, and is currently doing metronomic therapy. He will be 10 yrs old on Halloween, and is still very full of life. Good luck, you are in great hands with the Tripawd family.

paula and nitro

Nitro 11 1/2  yr old Doberman; right front amp June 2014. Had 6 doses carboplatin, followed by metronomic therapy. Rocked it on 3 legs for over 3 years! My Warrior beat cancer, but couldn't beat old age. He crossed the Bridge peacefully on July 25, 2017, with dignity and on his terms.  Follow his blog entitled "Doberman's journey"
