So here we are 2 weeks post left front leg amp after an aggressive malignant melanoma diagnosis of the foot bed and paw.

We had some bumps in the healing process that includes an e coli infection of the incision. It's FINALLY clearing up. Kota had 80% of his staples removed yesterday. They kept a few in where the infection is still clearing for safe keeping. The best news is, he IS a candidate for this vaccine.

Saturday he gets the rest out and his kidney function checked since the high octane liquid antibiotic injection he's on can mess with them.

They removed his lymph node with the amp and want to do one more strain test just to see where they may have to go in the future IF the vaccine isn't performing as it should. The results of the new test do not affect him being able to receive the vaccine.

Starting this Tuesday he will begin his vaccine sessions. It's a series of 4 shots total, given 2 weeks apart with a booster shot given in 6 months.

Kota is feeling MUCH better and definitely getting his crazy spark back:)

Oncept uses the dogs own immune system to recognize a cancer cell as a threat to his system and destroy it.

We'll be starting K9 Immunity Plus to supplement and keep his system in tip top shape.

So a 10 month prognosis can be extended 3 fold and beyond if all goes well! We'll keep everyone updated! Thank you for the continued support and prayers!

Hi Amy, Peter, and sweet Kota,
So glad things are improving with Kota' s infection, and really happy he is doing well overall. You are really on top of things regarding his treatment plans, and extra help for him in the way of K9 Immunity Plus.

Keep us updated on his upcoming vaccines, and keeping all of you in my thoughts and prayers for very successful results.

Good luck on your journey.  I hope this vaccination helps with Kota's journey.  K9 immunity is awesome stuff.  We used apocaps (Sassy wouldn't eat the k-9 immunity) but I did try with her.

Keep us updated on his journey.

hugs

Good luck with the vaccine! I'm glad your boy is a candidate for it.

I lost my tri-pug to oral melanoma, she was not a good candidate for the vaccine so we didn't try it.  I hope it provides Kota with months and months and months!

So before he went in for the vaccine today we received great news that there is NO metastases! Both lymph nodes removed are clear and so is chest! The cancer was contained to the leg and since that's gone we have a leg up (so to speak) on his fight! Soooooo happy! They said there are really no side effects to the shot. So that's also a plus. Now hopefully we can just concentrate on him getting stronger. The fact that he wants to play with his toys and catch tennis balls is an awesome sign! Xoxo amy pete and Kota the barbarian

Awesome news! So happy for your whole pack.

I've not really heard of any side effects from the vaccine, I did some research when Maggie was diagnosed, it's one of the selling points!

Go get em Kota the Barbarian!

Hey All! So we're one week in with the vaccine and no side effects which is awesome. He gets his 2nd shot next week. Took him to his regular vet today because we thought he may have an ear infection, but no, just wax:) Hey better safe than sorry! He did mention he worries about tripawd wrists since they over extend and bang on the good leg and their legs are normally straight. So he suggested getting a wrist support. Does anyone else use them? and if so, what would you recommend?

Others will have to chime in on the wrist issue..I haven't really noticed any post about that specifically being a challenge, but that doesn't mean anything!!

I'm just delighted, absolutely delighted to hear that Kota is doing so well!!!!clapclap

Yeah, we all go bonkers over the slightest little hiccup or burp on this journey! A dog named Barret was rushed to the ER because he was limping on one of his good legs when he first woke up. By the time he got to the hospital, he was fine! The vet determined his leg had merely "gone to sleep"!

YAAAAY FOR WAY EARS!!!

Hugs to all!

Keep it up Kota! Great news!

As for braces, these OrthoPets interviews tell more, be sure to watch parts 1 & 2. You really want to make sure it's a custom brace, since the wrong size or an ill-fitting one can make matters worse. Did your vet recommend anything? Really cool that s/he did mention that helpful tool.
