Any tips on getting dogs to poop after surgery??? Jack is eating well, drinking, peeing. But we are now day 5 post op and still no #2. Β He hasn't thrown up and is resting good so I feel like it's going somewhere and he isn't uncomfortable. I've been giving him tuna in oil since the day before surgery to keep things moving. Any ideas welcome!

Sure! I'll bet it will happen any day. Some tasty foods to help move things alongΒ include:

Steamed pumpkin, squash or zucchini

Metamucil flakes or bran cereal

More water in his food

Olive oil

Pretty soon your neighbors will wonder why you're giddy and dancing around hisΒ poopicon_png

If my memory is not failing me Eurydice pooped 6 days after surgery.

I was really worried (being a Momma, just like you) but there was nothing to worry about.

As the surgeon repeatedly told me, when they gotta go they gotta go πŸ’©πŸ’©πŸ’©πŸ’©

In our case, the urge came in the middle of a terribly rainy and windy night but I still jumped up and down with joy.

And so will you, soon, hopefully with better weather 😁

Sending you both lots of cuddles and hugs πŸ˜˜πŸ˜˜πŸ˜˜πŸ˜˜πŸ’•πŸΆπŸ’•

Eurydice 77kg/170lb Great Dane limping end of April 2016, amputation (right front leg/osteosarcoma) 4Β May 2016 6 courses of carboplatin followed by metronomic therapy, lung mets found 30Β Nov 2016. 3 courses of doxorubicin, PET scan 26 Jan 2017 showed more mets so stopped chemo. Holistic route April 2017. Lung X-ray 5 May 2017 showed several tennis ball size mets, started cortisone and diuretics. Miss Cow earned her XXL silver wings 12 June 2017, 13 months and 1 week after amputation and 6 1/2 months after lung mets, she was the goofiest dawg ever and is now happily flying from cloud to cloud woof woofing away :-)Β
