I have a 13 1/2ish Schnauzer/poodle mix (he was a rescue but likely between 13-14) who was diagnosed last April with a spleen mass. In May of 2016 the spleen was removed and he ended up having a type of lymphoma that is rare but apparently the best type to get as it was resolved with the splenectomy and no further treatment was needed. Fast forward to August of this year...he has had many lumps that were being checked and were fatty lipomas. Unfortunately his primary vet aspirated and biopsied one on his right front shoulder area which was cancerous. I took him back to the specialty center we have here in Las Vegas and the surgeon removed the mass and after the biopsy this was the dx "Grade II soft tissue sarcoma, right lateral thorax/axilla, dirty margins." Obviously due to the area the surgeon debulked what he could but the margins were dirty. Due to his age, both the surgeon and Chance's primary vet said they would not do anything else, however, I did meet with an oncologist there who has recommended "electrochemotherapy ." He said that it would be a 60% success rate, however, he must go back under general for the 2 treatments (2 weeks apart) and since his last surgery he has developed a heart murmur. I consulted with Chance's primary vet as she is honest and I figured I would get her advice and she told me that she has had about 10 patients who have tried electrochemo with no success. I am nervous that the norm is that the tumor will come back in 6-9 months and at that point likely inoperable and will impede upon his QOL.

Has anyone tried electrochemo for soft tissue sarcomas that were incompletely exised or even electrochemo in general? Money is not an issue but I do not want to put an older dog who now has a heart murmur through this for nothing or what might make him worse. As a side note, due to his age and again having to put him under anethesia for 20 times as well as having to live in LA for a month to do it (no facilities in Vegas) I will not do radiation. By the way his health (besides the recent heart murmur) has been good for his age. Obviously he is more tired than he was before but his appetite is great with no weight loss.

Any help or advice would be sooooo much appreciated. Thank you
