Yesterday was Mosby's 6 month ampuversary. It's crazy to think that 6 months have passed; Mosby's surgery was three days before Christmas, which I barely remember, and it feels like yesterday that the end of his carbo treatments seemed so, so far off. In the last 6 months we've started and finished carbo treatments, sold a house, bought another house, and moved, and started a daily chemo pill. Mosby is tolerating that well, enjoying daycare, has a tremendous appetite (and, er, gained a little weight, although he's trimmer now), and is generally doing well. Anyone who is familiar with Mosby's story knows that we did NOT have a quick and easy recovery and Mosby faced a lot of challenges the first couple of months, but he is doing well now, and has been for a while. He enjoys his new house (so, there are four beds on the lower level alone, is that normal?) and after two months of waiting, finally got SOD yesterday, so he now has a yard, which he took to immediately. The windows are nice and low in the house, so he can see out, and since we're in a more suburban area now, he has lots more activity going on around him, and sees lots of people when we go for (short) walks, etc. And there are a TON of dogs in the neighborhood.

It has been a crazy 6 months, but things are good now, and we're so happy to be able to spend lots of time with our boy.

Yippee to Mosby!  Glad to hear he is doing so much better.

Otis - 121 lbs pre amp - 114 lbs post amp and now 118 lb Great Dane - English Mastiff X.  Started limping on 12/24/16.  Diagnosed with Osteosarcoma 12/28/16 - amputation of front left leg on 1/6/17.  Stitches out and 1st round of Chemo on 1/19/17.   2nd round of Carboplatin on 2/10/17 - 3rd round on 3/2/2017.  4th round was scheduled for 3/22/17 - however due to low WBC postponed - 4th Chemo completed on 3/28/17.  Had breathing difficulties, stayed in Tufts ICU overnight.  Due for 2 more rounds of Chemo but we are opting to go with homeopathy with Dr. Loops instead.

Thanks for all your comments! Mosby is currently at his onco for a regularly-scheduled follow-up appointment. He's been really low energy this week, and emitting a whistling-like whining, which he hasn't done since pre-amp. We're really hoping it's nothing and that everything is a-ok. His appetite is still super, and he's definitely enjoying his yard. So, fingers crossed everything goes ok. The canine influenza epidemic has me absolutely terrified, since Mos is on the daily chemo so his immune system is low. But, we are taking things one day at a time (as best we can) and trying to keep him happy and healthy. But of course I'll be waiting nervously for the call from the onco to tell me how he's doing today.

We have our fingers, paws and tails crossed for a boring report from the vet. Please let us know what they say OK? And give Mosby extra smooches from us!

Heard from the onco. CBC was great, physical exam good, seemed bright, no whining for them. The plan is xrays of his lungs in 4 weeks, continue daily chemo for now. Monitor him for pain - if there is something that seems to be hurting him more than normal, we will explore. The soft tissue sarcoma on his remaining hind leg that they have been monitoring for months appears to be the same as it was originally. All-in-all, a reassuring report, and I guess at least for now we'll chalk the whining up to an attention grab ... we are frequently in the kitchen when he does it, so ... the main thing for me is that he's got a voracious appetite still. When he was in pain and whistling/whining pre-amp, he was also anorexic.

Anyway, counting our blessings for our 6 month checkup. As of right now, we are scheduling our vacation, which we usually do the week of Labor day. Usually we jet off to Colorado or Wyoming while Mosby stays at his daycare/spa, but this year he's coming with us (obviously), so we're restricted to car travel. At this point I think we're doing 1/2 a week at a nice rental house with a mountain view in Highlands, NC (the "Aspen of the East," so they say), which is a town with several dog-friendly restaurants with patios, and 1/2 a week a little further west in Nashville at The Hermitage hotel, which is a 5 star hotel with what looks like an amazing pet policy. We've called and talked to them, and they can arrange pet sitting if we want to go to a show or something one night. Plus they just generally spoil their doggie guests rotten. SO - really looking forward to that.

As far as pictures, I don't have a ton lately, but will make up for it! We intend to spend lots of time on the back porch over the weekend so I'll get some pictures of Mosby enjoying his back yard. 🙂 And there will be LOTS of photos on our vacation. Just will keep our fingers crossed that he stays feeling good until then. heart
