The last few days Miss K has been a little more subdued, I assume it is because the Nocita has worn off.  We added Gabapentin yesterday and it made her super sleepy, which is probably not a bad thing.

She is walking and pooping (not daily).  We’ve been fortunate that we have not needed a cone.  She came home with a t-shirt and that was enough to keep her from licking her incision.

She was not eating with gusto unless it was people food (scrambled farm eggs, toast, cottage cheese, pulled pork).  Then my husband had the brilliant idea to add barbeque sauce to her raw meat and bones blend and she is finally eating.

When and how do you start rebuilding strength and mobility?  Stitches come out on Wednesday. (Our challenges come from living in the mountains.  We have minimal flat terrain and we are all learning the balance issues related to slopes.)

Hi! No advice to offer I'm afraid, but I wanted to say it's great that she's doing so well. It's a bit of a learning curve isn't it smiley

Good idea about the BBQ sauce, as long as it doesn't upset her tummy. Hope the stitches come out OK - I'm sure she'll feel much better without them, it's another milestone to pass. And what a good girl not needing a cone!

Sounds like you're doing great. Well done miss kitty and family!

Hi there 🌺

I followed Eurydice’s capacity and adapted closely to what she was able to do.

Being a huge Dane that meant we took our time to get there initially.

I never, ever increased activity too fast, went from 10 minutes to 12 to 15 etc during recovery and then increased 10 minutes per day until she was strong enough.

And very importantly I always took into consideration the time needed to go back to where we started from.

We lived in London so there were zero uneven roads but once she got strong we travelled abroad and I made a point of having her going up and down all sorts of terrain to maintain her leg muscles and that worked really well.

Sending you hugs and cuddles 😘😘🐮💫✨🌟🌹

Eurydice 77kg/170lb Great Dane limping end of April 2016, amputation (right front leg/osteosarcoma) 4 May 2016 6 courses of carboplatin followed by metronomic therapy, lung mets found 30 Nov 2016. 3 courses of doxorubicin, PET scan 26 Jan 2017 showed more mets so stopped chemo. Holistic route April 2017. Lung X-ray 5 May 2017 showed several tennis ball size mets, started cortisone and diuretics. Miss Cow earned her XXL silver wings 12 June 2017, 13 months and 1 week after amputation and 6 1/2 months after lung mets, she was the goofiest dawg ever and is now happily flying from cloud to cloud woof woofing away :-)

Great question!

When and how do you start rebuilding strength and mobility?  Stitches come out on Wednesday. (Our challenges come from living in the mountains.  We have minimal flat terrain and we are all learning the balance issues related to slopes.)

Usually, rehab therapist will tell you as soon as the stitches are out is a good time to get started. We hope you'll consider taking advantage of the Tripawds Rehab Reimbursement Fund, which will cover the cost of Miss K's first rehab visit

We totally know what you mean about not having level places to walk. Wyatt Ray lived part time in the Rockies for the first eight years of his life and anywhere we went outside our door was either up hill or down hill! As a rear-legger like Miss K, walking up hill was a struggle for him. It's not a balance issue, it's a strength issue. When a dog loses a rear leg, they lose 50% of that propulsion that aids in moving up and forward.

It would be so beneficial if you can get Miss K to rehab so they can show you what kinds of exercises to do. If not, that's OK, you can do many things on your own. Our Tripawds Gear blog has lots of ideas as does our Tripawds Downloads blog .

Start very slow and build up over the course of months. And remember that walking doesn't build strength, it only builds endurance. Strength comes before endurance so start with new core-strengthening, balance and fitness games, things you can do around the house. Our Tripawds e-book Loving Life On Three Legs has lots of ideas as well.

I attempted to start a blog with plans to upload pictures, but ran into a snag.  Haven’t gotten around to the tech support side to see what I did wrong. (Don’t have any online photosharing options)

We would like to but any therapists are 1 1/2 hours away for us.  If we just do a single intro session will that be better than nothing?

Second question, maybe but I'm not sure. I couldn't do it with Huck. He's a newly semi domesticated super feral dude. Our only real saving grace is that our hunter was in tip top condition and we keep him active as an indoor kitty.

First question, once you start a blog there is a gallery. If you save pics to the gallery, each picture has a source address to copy. I have to open 2 windows. Click on reply in this thread. Click on the little frame in here above the chat. Go to your gallery and copy the address. Come back into this reply box. Paste it into the box that opened after you clicked the picture frame. Click ok. The picture should pop open into the reply box. Then you can resize it by clicking on the picture and making it larger or smaller. I know these aren't perfect instructions but maybe enough for you to post. When you add pictures to the gallery you can either drag the picture our click the proper boxes to add. It has to be saved into your phone or PC, tablet, etc.  to be able to save. I'm off to bed. Good luck I'll look for you in the am. ❤️❤️

What kind of snag? Read your default first post and check the Help Videos in your blog dashboard for plenty of helpful tips to get started, or search post any specific questions in the tech-support forum if you need more help.

Yes! A certified therapist will provide a proper evaluation and prescribe exercises specifically for Miss Kitty that you can do at home to help keep her fit and strong. That is why the Tripawds Foundation can even pay for the first visit with a CCRT or CCRP via the Maggie Moo Fund for Tripawd Rehab. There are also various starter exercises you can do on your own, and many more professional tips in Loving Life On Three Legs .
