Hi Everyone!! It's Mattie again. I wanted to update you on my latest progress. I was diagnosed with K9 osteosarcoma on 9/20/2014. I had my amputation surgery on 9/24/2014.

I took an extra week to make sure my amputation surgical wound was healing properly following some drainage in a small area (penny-sized) that failed to maintain vascular health and failed to spawn new blood supply via angiogenesis. That small portion went necrotic but not invasive. The healing resumed and it's good now.

My person, Bob, created a Coppermine gallery about me on his website. There is only one category so far (Mattie Post-Op). Each album includes pictures from different days. The album titles include the date and also what day it is relative to post-op or 1st chemo.

So far, Bob has 17 albums (days) and 156 pictures. The gallery starts at "2014-09-28 (4 days post-op)."

Here is the photo gallery.

I had my first chemo treatment this past Thursday (10/16/2014). Bob dropped me off that morning (after the school mania had died down in that area of Ramsey Street). He left work early and picked me up that afternoon.

When Bob arrived to pick me up, Dr. Dale met with Bob alone first. Dr. Dale said that I did really well. Dr. Dale said that I might be sluggish or nauseated for a couple of days. He gave Bob 4 doses of an antiemetic for nausea but told Bob not to give it to me unless I needed it. Dr. Dale said they planned to do four doses of carboplatin, about 3 weeks apart for each dose. In the interim, he wants me to visit every 10 days or so to do a blood chemistry on me to see how my immune system is performing. The carboplatin tends to reduce white blood cell counts and immune response, sometimes extensively.

After Dr. Dale met with Bob alone, Dr. Dale went into the back area and asked the vet tech bring me to the "Blue" room (the room where Bob was waiting). I hopped toward the closed door. I figured that Bob was behind the door, so, once the tech operated the door handle, I pushed my head through the door to see Bob. I wasn't lethargic at all. I rushed over to see Bob. He said, "Hey, Baby Doll!!!" "Hey, Beautiful!!!" The vet tech went back out through the back door. I jumped up onto the blue padded bench Bob was sitting on. I sat up pretty right next to Bob. Dr. Dale came through the back door. Bob was looking at me and petting me, but I think I heard Dr. Dale chuckle when he saw me sitting up on top of the blue bench with Bob right next to me.

I haven't felt any signs of nausea. We've been eating well for the past few days. We ordered Domino's on Sunday and I really enjoyed that. I had some of a pizza that was cheese, pepperoni and bacon. I also had some of another pizza that had close to everything that Domino's offers as a topping, save for anchovies and jalapenos.

So...a blood chemistry in about 5 days from now, then my other three carboplatin treatments. I'm glad I'm still here. I know that Bob is glad, too.

Our story: Broke rear leg in June 2013 - non-conclusive results for cancer so leg was plated and pinned. Enlarged spleen in September 2013 and had it removed and was diagnosed with Hemangiosarcoma and started chemotherapy. Became a Tripawd January 8th, 2014 and definitive Hemangiosarcoma diagnosis. Three major surgeries in 7 months and Shelby took them all like a champ only to lose her battle to cancer in her brain. We had 8 amazing extra months together and no regrets. #shelbystrong #loveofmylife

Dear Mattie,

This is Jill.  I was reading your post over my human's shoulder and she is at work now so I hacked onto the puter to reply to you so you could hear from another animal.

I am a cat so I hope it is ok that I write to you.  You sure sound like a great dawgy Mattie.  I was right where you are just about 23 months ago.  I had my leg putated off too because I had the same nasty cancer as you.  It was no big deal for me, but my human was very upset.  I was hopping along in no time though.  Then I went for the chemo like you.  Again, no big deal, but the human didn't like it.  I got belly rubs all day long while she went to work.  It's nice you get to run to your human after your chemo, they bringed me to her in a pink case because I am a cat.  You sure sound brave.  I know it's a lot of needles and stuff but its ok right? and it's worth it because you gotta try to get rid of all the nastiness that could still be there!

I went every three weeks too but sometimes I had to wait because something called my white blood cells and neutrophils were too low for my chemo.  My human was distraught....but me and the oncoiologist told her to CHILL OUT it was normal when animals were on chemo.

You got to have pizza? that is way cool.  I dont know if I would like pizza but I bet dogs really love pizza.  I would like for you to come over and we can play chase each other around.

I hope you continue to feel well and get some pizza.  Why did you not want the anchovies? I bet a cat like me would like those.

Love to you,

Jill the tripawd kitty cat

Hi again Everyone!! I'm sorry that I've waited this long to reply, but I knew that I was going to see Dr. Dale today to get my blood chemistry checked. I wanted to be able to respond with the results of my bloodwork. Dr. Dale says that my bloodwork looks GREAT!! I'm ready to have my next carboplatin treatment on Thursday 11/6/2014.

Thank you ALL so much for the endless pawsitive support.

Jill, of course it's okay that you write to me. Thank you for your support and friendship. You are a very cute kitty. Underneath your picture, I think it says "New York." I'll bet that's a neat place to live. I've heard that, in the middle of all those big, tall buildings there is a BIG park with lakes and lots of grassy areas where we would have a lot of fun playing. You've been through so much and you are a HUGE inspawration to me. We had pizza on Saturday. I know cats may not like pizza very much, but I'll bet you would really like what we had yesterday.

For a snack, Bob and I shared this in the afternoon:

And for dinner, we had these things. I let Bob eat my broccoli but I really enjoyed the fish and rice!! Nana gave me some of her fish, too!!

MATTIE!!

COD!? TUNA!? Are you a kitty at heart!?

Oh yeah I heard of this park in my city, I actually live TWO BLOCKS from it but Mommy doesn't let me go there :(

She goes go there a lot though and see all the doggies go running around all the time! Theres actually a tripawd on this site named Ajax and I know he goes to that park a lot.

Oh good job on your test! You musta studied....my mom always forgot to remind me that I was going to have a blood test and so it was more like a pop quiz and I failed a few times........silly mom.  It was no big deal though, I just had to waited a few weeks for my next one.  Hey Mattie I hope you continue to feel good you sure sound awesome to me.

xoxo,

Jill
