Well we went and got Marmaduke this morning. Boy was he glad to see us. He about trampled me as soon as I walked in the door. He seems to be doing alright. Does seem to be in alot of pain too, but is eating and drinking which I dunno if he's doing it cause he's hungry or if he knows I want him to. He's trying to get comfortable but hopefully it'll get better as the days passed. I'm trying to relax myself which isn't going so well lol.

The not resting part I do understand.  I couldn't sleep the first couple nights worrying about the things to come!  Then I just tried to enjoy the day, one at a time and work on the now rather than worry about something that hasn't happened yet…

You've got a tough couple weeks ahead, good luck!! We are here if you need anything!

I know it is difficult, but try to relax some.  The recovery couple of weeks will thow curves at you, but you can't wear yourself out waiting for them to hit.  Take each moment as it comes and deal with whatever it presents.  You and Duke will be fine.

Great to hear that Marmaduke is home. Take one step at a time. Don't think about 2 weeks from now, stay in the now as everyone else has said. And get plenty of rest. If you take care of yourself, you'll be able to take much better care of Marmaduke. Sending lots of pawsitive thoughts, prayers & hugs your way!

Excellent!  He's home!  What a relief!  YAY!

Just remember to put everything in perspective – it's the "put the oxygen mask on yourself first before your child" theory.  So, take care of yourself first, so you can take care of him and everything will be fine!

Give him  a hug from his tripawd buddies!

Ashley,

That's great news. I think the eating and drinking is always a good sign. Sending lots of positive energy your way for a fast and uneventful recovery. Please keep up updated.

Well today was Duke's first experienc with now. Woke up and have about three inches. He didn't like it at all. B ut after some persuasion he went out in it as long as I went to. He seems to be feeling better. Was even jumping up on everyone's beds(which just bout gave me a heartattack) But I think he'll be just fine this time. The steroids they have him on are kind of giving him some bad side effects.

Thanks for the update! For a quick recovery with no complications be sure to keep Duke from any jumping around.

That's weird!  SNOW!!!  I'm pretending it's not winter since I hate the cold.

It's gonna be hard since you have a love bug puppy, but yea – try to keep him from doing too much.  He is probably feeling good with steroids (falsely). But he needs to let everything heal and not be hyper or you may find him crashing from pain.

Just curious but is he on steriods for the tick disease?  It's usually contra-indicated right after surgery.   Mind you, I'm no vet so I have no clue but usually steroids aren't given after surgery.

Hugs to Marmadukie!

That's exactly what I'm wondering, also steroids in a growing puppy. The vet said the disease was more important than all that so I'm kind of scared not to give them to him, but they really have bad side effects.
