Our sweet Kaylee is two months out from her amputation and was due for her 3rd round of carboplatin today.  However, today was x-ray day and it showed that her osteosarcoma had metastasized to her lungs.  So, no chemo.  Prognosis is 6-8 weeks.  She's doing great.  She adjusted to her missing from leg quickly.  Overall, she's her old self and oblivious to what is happening.  One option is Palladia I guess.  I'm not really sure what else we can do to give her the best quality of life for the longest time she's got left.  I know here that many of you have gone or are going through the same thing.

She's been doing so good this was just really unexpected.  I don't regret anything we've done for the sweet girl.  I just was looking for advice from the community on what may help at the point we are at.

Thanks!

Kevin

Kevin I'm so sorry to hear about the x-rays. I know how upsetting this kind of news is. Rest assured, Kaylee doesn't care, she doesn't know what the x-rays showed, life is still great to her and always will be. And if it's any comfort, many, many dogs have gone on longer than anyone expected even with metastasis.

Here is an ongoing Forum discussion about lung metastasis, what to expect, how to alleviate symptoms, etc. I hope it helps.

We'd love to see some pics, do share.

Oh, Kevin.  I remember the stress of those 3 month xrays.  I'm so sorry mets were found.  They stink.  Big time!

But, like before, this isn't a death sentence right away.  She's still got plenty of fun walks, tail wags, cuddle times, games, and love to enjoy and share!  Enjoy them all.  Take loads more photos!

Palladia has shown some great progress for many.  I know of some here who tried it, yet faced some ugly side effects.  It's pricey, but maybe worth a shot.  Talk about the side effects, though, with your vet and how to manage them!

Post some photos of your lovely lady.  We'd love to see her!

~ Katy & Jackson

ACL tear in right hind leg 12/5/12 and scheduled ACL repair surgery 12/21/12. Pre-op xrays revealed osteosarcoma. Amputation 12/28/12.  Chemo (carboplatin) started Jan 10, 2013 and ended on April 5, for a total of 5 doses. He handled carbo like a champ!  No side effects.  We started metronomic therapy at his third chemo and have been also doing some holistic treatments.  He's a lively, playful 10 year old huskie-boarder collie and a very proud member of the Winter Warriors!  Our love. Our funny little guy!

REMEMBER, SHE IS COMPLETELY AWARE!! NOTHING has changed for her and that is soooooo huge right ow!! She is feeling STRONG AND VIBRANT AND HAPPY and is being giving more love and spoing than any dog could hoe for!

Checkout metronomics ....check out using Prednison...but ho est to goodness...except maybe for the metrono ics, f she's still symptom free I wouldn't use the other stuff yet. And IF symptons start showing. Pred is good for easing symptons along with so e other things you can try. I do kow Palladia can havesome pretty stong side effects s etmes for several weeks...not all the time.

Also, m HAPPY HHANNAH had a baseball size "pice of crap" thing in her lng when finally decided to go and xray....er ONLH smptns at that time were that she tired easily...and that's with this HIGE ting! So who even kows how long it was growng or how slowly

She NEVER stopped wgging her tail, she EVER stopped being happy and she NEVER stopped eating...well, yo would have to kow this dog...not eati g just was never on her radar...even as we had the vet come at the end of this earth journey to the house...zi was still feeding her!

Eventually, the breathing became consistently labored and she went from being tired to just being pretty darn exhausted all the ti e.

EVERY dog is differe t...and rsrely to dogs' symptoms at this po t look like what the vet tells you.

So yo go out and have an absolute BLAST and play full out because she sure is! You have a LOT of QUALITY ti e ahead of you and let NOTHING... OTHING.... OTHING rob you of your ti e together! Kaylee is loving...and living...the life!! She has NO time fra e stamped on her heard She has many' many',many more months...mabe even years...no o e kows...ahead of her!

Keep rocking Kaylee...we are all cheering for you! PICTURES!! The crowd roars...PICTURES!!!

Lota oflove...and feed Kaylee lots of ice cream...it helped Hapy Hannah during this whole journey!winker

HUGS!

I agree with Sally. They can give time frames, but many pups completely ignore them. I also agree on the ice cream. I was pretty much a food police. It is great that she is not acting any different. And Dr. Loops. I guess just ditto everything Sally saidsmiley

Thanks!  I'll get some pictures up and do more research. The metronomic therapy seems something to definitely discuss with her oncologist after the weekend.

I'm not sure if this picture will come through: [Image Can Not Be Found]

Oh I am just catching up - I am so sorry to hear of this.....it's those third treatment x-rays everyone dreads :(

I know Jill's oncologist has lots of success with Paladia - from what I hear there can be some bad side effects, but some great results as well.

Keep us posted!

Jill is a 9-year-old tuxedo kitty. She was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma in June 2012 on her toe in her right hind leg. Her leg was amputated on 12/12/12 and she completed four rounds of chemo (2 of Carbo, 2 of Doxy) in April 2013.
