thank you all very much.  wishing your puppies all of their luck in their treatments too.  we opted to not do chemo again because he did get blood in his urine which lasted 3 months during that time .  he is coughing with only 2 very small lung mets that just appeared (not sure if it's location or if they are leaking or (still praying for pneumonia as final diagnosis when we go back to the vet on the 2).  I will discuss Tumeric with her and thanks for the other link too.    Yes what I don't understand with the statistics is why they do not take other factors into account (age being one of them as most dogs get osteo are at the end of the life expectancy and could have passed from a combo of the age/disease).  He is our miracle pup and we will continue to share his success story 🙂  I really think cooking his food (including topping it off with Ascenta fish oil and Balance It powder) has helped him be strong.  He just took his first K9 Immunity (which I had to hide with cheese even though it's a chew lol) and I know Jerry had great success on that from reading this site.

Hi Cooper and family,

Well, now you have a plan and it is the BEST plan for your dawg, you know him best and love him to bits heart

Me and Eurydice are sending lots of pawsitive energy, cuddles and hugs heart

Eurydice 77kg/170lb Great Dane limping end of April 2016, amputation (right front leg/osteosarcoma) 4 May 2016 6 courses of carboplatin followed by metronomic therapy, lung mets found 30 Nov 2016. 3 courses of doxorubicin, PET scan 26 Jan 2017 showed more mets so stopped chemo. Holistic route April 2017. Lung X-ray 5 May 2017 showed several tennis ball size mets, started cortisone and diuretics. Miss Cow earned her XXL silver wings 12 June 2017, 13 months and 1 week after amputation and 6 1/2 months after lung mets, she was the goofiest dawg ever and is now happily flying from cloud to cloud woof woofing away :-)

Hi Everyone, here's an update on Cooper.  Great news that it appears the X-ray got better after 2 weeks time (leaning towards pneumonia).  However! While there to recheck him the vet felt a swollen lymph node behind his rear leg and they just called today to say it's a sarcoma (can't tell me what kind it is and say it's very atypical for it to spread like that). We are going in for a CT scan on the 15th to be 100% certain no spread to the lungs and then he will go in for surgery to have the lymph node removed.  If we see spread we will be declining surgery and helping him live out his days as enjoyable as they can be.  The vet is really hesitant to say this is osteosarcoma coming back almost 3 years later but it may be.  We pray taking this lymph node out will help him be cancer free again. We need many more years with our boy.

and on a diffeeent note, he absolutely HATES the K9 chews(even manages to get them out of the center of a peanut butter ball lol).  Does anyone else's dog have an issue with them?

If if anyone has similar story to share please let me know.  We are so thankful for having 2 years and 8 months post amp and we really need many many more.

Great news on the lungs!  Hopefully the lymph node will turn out to be a low grade, slow moving nothing really important.

Otis - 106 pound lab/Dane mix, lost his right front leg to osteosarcoma on Febuary 9, 2016.  Four rounds of carboplatin completed in April, 2016.  Lung mets August 25, 2016.  Said goodbye too soon on September 4, 2016.   Lost his adopted sister, Tess, suddenly on October 9, 2016. likely due to hemangiosarcoma.

Wherever they are, they are together.

Really, really good news! 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 It shows shows that sometimes xrays don't always reveal horrible news! Good job Cooper! 🙂 🙂

Now let's get past that lymph node issue, okay? You certainly are one of our MIRACLE DOGS and we need pups like you around here!!

No advice on the K9 Chews. My Happy Hannah thought they were a yummy treat. Then again, anything she could eat was yummy to her! 🙂 Maybe you could crumble them up and sprinkle in some really good food she likes...maybe?

Keep rockin' sweet Cooper!

Love!

Wow that is terrific, let's all cheer for pneumonia! Yeah, we're crazy that way around here.

I'm glad your vet is so vigilant and recommending the CT scan but not thinking the worst. It's better to be safe and know exactly what you're dealing with, which is hopefully taken care of with one lymph node extraction. Cooper's a fighter, a warrior and a ROCK STAR in the cancer world, and he will continue to be!

Regarding the K9 Immunity chews .... yeah, it's a love it or hate it thing with some dogs. The fish oil is something that many dogs just don't enjoy. K9 Medicinals now has a new immune booster called "Armor-Up" that you may want to try. They created this powdered supplement with a beef flavor and no fish oil stink whatsoever. If you give it a whirl let us know!

So happy to hear Cooper just had a bit of pneumonia.  He truly is a miracle pup!

Otis - 121 lbs pre amp - 114 lbs post amp and now 118 lb Great Dane - English Mastiff X.  Started limping on 12/24/16.  Diagnosed with Osteosarcoma 12/28/16 - amputation of front left leg on 1/6/17.  Stitches out and 1st round of Chemo on 1/19/17.   2nd round of Carboplatin on 2/10/17 - 3rd round on 3/2/2017.  4th round was scheduled for 3/22/17 - however due to low WBC postponed - 4th Chemo completed on 3/28/17.  Had breathing difficulties, stayed in Tufts ICU overnight.  Due for 2 more rounds of Chemo but we are opting to go with homeopathy with Dr. Loops instead.

What a terrible terrible tragedy.  Cooper crossed his rainbow bridge yesterday after not waking up from anesthesia to do his CatScan.  We knew a sarcoma was in his back lymph node and the CT showed some spread to the shoulder blade and spine so I know the cancer had come back after a good 2 yrs 8 months and he was telling us it was his time.  I saw a beautiful huge rainbow that morning on the way to school and I was telling our kids it was good luck and then I learned that the rainbow was actually meant for him and he was taken away way too early.  He was the most amazing dog and even those that considered themselves not 'dog people' would jokingly say that he was their favorite.  It is such a huge void to fill in our hearts and the pain is so strong still.  I wish you all luck with your journeys and pray for all of your pup's success.

Ohhhhh no! My gosh that is so terrible, we are so sorry. I can't imagine trying to explain this to your kids. My heart goes out to you and the family.

I have no doubt that Cooper sent that sign to let you know his transition was peaceful. He is whole again, and pain free. And his beautiful, loving spirit will always be a part of your family.

If you're up to it, post in another topic and tell us more about him OK? And if you're not, that  is OK too. Either way, Cooper's story will always be part of the fabric of our community. He is forever our hero.

I literally am sick to my stomach to hear this devastating, horrible brutal turn of events. I'm just so very, very, very sorry beyond words right now

I want to come back when I can maybe gather my thoughts and not be as absolutely worthless as I am now. I'm just sitting here crying for you, and with you, and shaking my head in disbelief.

With love

Thank you all so much for your kind words and support. Just being here for me as a sounding board means a lot.  I really can't stop the crying and when I think I've composed myself it comes again.

I am so sorry to hear this news.  This is such a hard thing to deal with after fighting so hard, and doing as well as Cooper did for so long.  It's not a consolation, but you gave him wonderful quality time that he wouldn't have had otherwise and he knew how much you loved him.
