Eddie,
Thank you for letting us know how surgery went for Lola, and I am really happy to hear everything went well. I know you must be very excited to get her back home and start your new adventure with her. Like Esther said, ( and Dorothy ), there's no place like home.

Let us know when you bring her home, once you get the chance......you will certainly be busy for a bit. I will be thinking about her and you today.....

I just got a call from one of the docs at CSU.  Lola is doing very well.  She had a "great night" and only woke up once and wanted food.  She has eaten, again, this morning and has transitioned off IV pain medication to oral meds.  I do not know what they are using for pain meds.  I was very pleased, but not surprised, to hear she's eating.  Let's just say Lola enjoys her food. big-grin

She has attempted her first step but fell on her face.  The doctor said that was normal in a dog that is used to having good use of the amputated leg.  Apparently animals that had limited or no use of the limb prior to amputation have a quicker time walking.

We're excited to see her at 4!

Awww yay Lola! I'm so glad to hear that things went well.

Try not to panic about the face plants, they do happen occasionally, but it's always more shocking and upsetting to humans than the dogs.

Can't wait to see pix from the happy reunion!

Great news!!! Glad her surgery went well and she's ready to come home today!

Like the others said... the face plants happen... the best thing is to keep calm! Jerry's Reading talks a lot about this and how to deal (physically and emotionally as we never want to see our fur-kids tumble)!

Can't wait to see more photos!

Enlarged spleen in September 2013 and had it removed and was diagnosed with Hemangiosarcoma and started chemotherapy. Became a Tripawd January 8th, 2014 and definitive Hemangiosarcoma diagnosis. Three major surgeries in 7 months and Shelby took them all like a champ only to lose her battle to cancer in her brain. **UPDATE**

I'm sorry it's taken me a while to update, but as you can imagine, it's been a very busy 24 hours.

We went up to CSU to pick up Lola on Friday at 4PM.  We were met by the oncology student, Elena, who updated us on Lola's progress that day.  Turns out, Lola had a very healthy appetite all day which was not really a surprise to me.  My girl loves a full bowl.   Elena then said she had some other news.  Lola had been walking around all day and doing very well.

We were taken back to a consultation room where we waited for what seemed like forever (likely 5 minutes) and then the surgeon, Dr. Kennedy, brought her back to us.  She walked right in with her tail wagging about a hundred miles an hour.

I wasn't sure what to expect, and I'm not a doctor, but it seemed to me she was just ready to get on with life.  It was like she woke up, noticed something was different and immediately started adapting to her new life.

She was a bit groggy from the anesthetic, and she had an allergic reaction to the E-Collar (cone of shame ) that caused her nose to swell.  As soon as we removed it, the swelling started going down.

Here's a link to the first time we saw Lola after surgery: https://www.you.....MdxIT_yFO0

She is tolerating the pain meds quite well, and we had a great night.  She went out back to potty before bed.  I carried her up stairs for bed, and she went right to her usual spot and made herself comfortable.  She started whining just before 1AM.  I took her outside, she did her business and went right back to bed.  My girl slept until almost 8AM.

Here's a pic of Lola with my two daughters:

Today has been wonderful.  Lola has lounged almost all day with her babies:

She is alert and walking all around the house... when she thinks food is being prepared.  CSU called me at 11AM today to see how she's doing.  Those people are great.

Thank you all for your kind words and advice.  To whoever posted about the grocery bag trick, that was awesome.  Best thing ever for helping her get around.

I'm sure there will be more questions in the future, and I can only hope someday I can help others as much as you have helped me.

Thank you so very much.

Awwww! If only the GoPro was around when we picked up our Jerry from UC Davis! Love love love the video!

Dont' worry about the forum post and pics formatting, these forums make it difficult to neatly place photos and text. How about starting a Tripawds blog where you can definitely make it all nice and neat?

I'm so glad she's home and doing so well, that is a DREAM 1st night at home! It's interesting about her cone of shame allergy....dogs and cats seem to be allergic to it in every sense of the word but I can't recall one here ever having a physical reaction like that. Lucky Lola gets to ditch the cone!

Love the carpet runners, good job Dad! May we put some of your pics in our photo gallery? They're great!

Hope your weekend is going well, let us know if you have any questions. Give Lola a smooch from us.

Welcome home Lola!  Wow, she looks great, and what an amazing first night home.

I've not heard of a physical reaction to the cone like that before- hopefully the tee shirt will keep her away from the sutures.

And what a great welcoming committee!  Good job everyone with the positive attitude, I don't think her tail stopped wagging.
