Our sweet boy is Home. He is eating, sleeping, peeing and pooping like a champ. I’m so proud of him. Amputation was front left forequarter on Thursday, he spent the night and was picked up Friday. It’s sunday now and everyday he’s doing better. I’m amazed at how awesome he’s doing and know he will only get better. I am sad to see how hard he has to work to do things that we used to take for granted, like stairs and walking on the hardwood floors. But he’s getting it with some help. He has some sagging fluid under his chest I’m guessing is the beginning of a seroma . Anything I can do to prevent it growing? He’s not being active other than just 3-4 potty breaks per day.

YAAAAAAAAAY!!!  LOGAN IS HOME!!!   And it sounds like he is doing amazingly well!!!

HAPPY poopicon_png  DANCE!! 🙂 🙂 🙂

Yeah, Logan only needs potty breaks and that's it for now.  If at all possible NO STAIRS yet!!  If you have hardwoods, get some non slip scatter rugs asap  for traction !

Being a tripawd IS exhausting and takes a lot of effort at first!  Logan is just a few days out of major surgery and pretty well drugged also.   So right now it's all about rest!   YES, it will get so much better!  It took me about three weeks before I could finally say I did this FOR Happy Hannah, and not TO her!

Seromas are fairly common.  Some very gentle massage around the seroma may help.  Check out links here on seroma and you'll find some tips.  The fluid will eventually reabsorb.

Give that ADORABLE Logan a big smooch for us!!

Hugs

Sally and Alumni Happy Hannah and Merry Myrtle and Frankie too!

Happy Hannah had a glorious additional bonus time of over one yr & two months after amp for osteo! She made me laugh everyday! Joined April's Angels after send off meal of steak, ice cream, M&Ms & deer poop!

If only our house allowed for no stairs to be an option. He has 4 steps down off the porch to table a potty break. And of course 4 more back up. No way around it. We built him a ramp which he won’t use. We are keeping him only on main floor inside the house but he has to go out for potty breaks. I’m looking forward to hitting the point where he’s stronger but in the mean time I’m so proud of the progress he’s made.

Logan seems to be thriving!  Ditto on Sally's recommendation to look at the seroma pages! We also used a compression shirt designed for forelimb amputees, which was awesome. The only one I found was called SurgiSox, but I'm sure other brands would work if they exist. Good luck to Logan, and keep up the great work!

I loved life as a tripawd for over three years following right forelimb amputation due to an aggressive and recurrent hemangiopericytoma. I reclaimed my place among the gods and valkyries in Valhalla on November 11th, 2020. My parents miss me tremendously, but I know they'll keep me in their hearts forever... and don't worry, I've approved my mom's use of my Tripawds account.
