Thanks again to all who replied (and those who didn't reply but sent good thoughts--we felt them all!) to what turned out to be our premature thread in Coping with Loss.

When Lexie started to go downhill so quickly last week I stopped the M-W-F Palladia oral chemo. After she perked up Thursday and Friday we noticed that her neck tumor was getting bigger again, so I re-started the Palladia on Saturday and now we'll try a Sat-Mon-Weds schedule. Not sure if it's wishful thinking, but I don't think it's gotten much bigger since we started back on the Palladia.

She's sleeping a lot during the day, but when it's time for her walk her energy is still very good. She comes back in and sleeps some more, perks up again later in the day, then wants to walk again.

She actually gave us a big scare yesterday afternoon when I got home with groceries. Greg came out to the car to help me bring the stuff in and he let her sneak out with him. (Normally she's so excited to see either of us when we get home that we don't worry about her running off.)

She was feeling so good that she did a few quick zoomies in the front yard. Then she decided to forgo the 4 stairs from the lawn to the driveway and jumped off the three-foot ledge Air Bud/dock-diving style. Greg freaked out and yelled, "Did you see that?! OMG, OMG!" etc. I had missed it because I was on the other side of the car pulling stuff out.

Of course, we were petrified that she had hurt her remaining front leg. Thankfully she seemed to be okay, and was still running around a bit on the soft grass like she was proud of herself(!). I gave her some extra Tramadol right after and again before she went to sleep that night.

She is a bit slower today but that's not unusual be because we can't give her Rimadyl on the Palladia days, but she doesn't seem to be in any discomfort. She's just had one short walk today since it's so hot, and now she's snoozing away. Anyway, that's the last time we let her out front when one of us pulls in the driveway...

Thanks to all, and hope everyone who is off today has enjoyed the long weekend.

Hugs,

Deb and Lexie

Deb and Angel Lexie* Diagnosed at age 13. Tried radiation first; wish we had amputated upon diagnosis (even with lung mets). Joined Club Tripawd April 2014 & Lexie loved life on 3 legs! Advice: Start physical therapy as soon as your vet clears it, especially hydrotherapy if available :-) See Lexie pics here.

Deb,
Sorry, after I finished laughing hard, I am settled down to be grateful that sweet Lexie seemingly did not appear to seriously hurt anything..... But that girl surely has some energy, and WOW, zoomies for her seem amazing!!

Thanks for keeping us updated on her, and even more thankful for good days.....
Love,
Bonnie & Angel Polly

Oh, I am so glad to hear of these good days. I totally understand what you were thinking that day. One Sunday, Ty could not get up, he cried when we tried and I thought it was the time. Since it was a Sunday, I decided to wait till Monday. My Son in Law actually tried to talk my husband into sneaking him to vet while I was at church. My husband stayed home with Ty, as I had nursery duty that day. By Monday morning, he was standing at the door with his tail wagging. She sounds like she has turned a 360. Love hearing this, and a wonder woman leap, she must be feeling frisky. Hugs from, Lori and Ty

TY GUY, Best Black Lab ever! Diagnosed  and had amp in January, 2014. Kicked MRSA's butt. Earned his angel wings on April 16, 2014. Run Free my boy and don't forget a shoe. Ty is a proud member of the " April Angels". Ty sent us Daryl, a Tripawd rescue in Sept. of 2016. Daryl is 5 +or -. We are also Pawrents to Chandler, a Border Collie mix who is 15 and 1/2, Lucy, a Corgi who is 7, 2 minis, 2 horses, and a feisty cat named Zoe. Zoe had a non skeletal Osteosarcoma removed in July 2015. No Chemo, she was at least 16. She is going strong although she is now completely blind. She is now close to 20 and her hobbies are eating and sleeping in front of her personal heater.

LEXIE!!! LEEEEEEXIE!!!! You are THE collest Cougar ever!!!!

Im just grinning ear to ear over here visualizing her having a blast being "Air Bud" and then strutting around pleased as ounch with herself!!! way-cool You are silly gitl Lexie!! You sure know how to wrap that Greg around your cute little paws! No more sneaking out....I don't care how easyi p it is to slip one over i n poor Greg, okay?!

Yeah, these last couple of days in Virginia are what August is normally like...hot and humid! We got a lottle spoiled the last couple of weeks...nice! Im sure this weather tires her out...it does me!

Ya' know Deb, this part of the journey......this take it one day at a time, day by day part of the journey.....I found to be somewhat oddly peaceful. I knew that, in Happy Hannah's case, because of the way she was "phasing out" in a way where real physical pain had not yet taken over, I felt fairly certain I would have the privilege (and it was a lucky privilege that not everyone gets through no fault of their own) of making her transition while she was still enjoying being Happy Hannah. Yeah, it was a slightly diminished version of herself, but she was still able to be herself. I just found comfort in knowing that, at some point, anytime she and I needed to make the decision from that point forward, it would be the "right" time. I hope this is making sense.
So relax, enjoy and know that the "right time" is no longer anything that as t cause you stress

Geez, I think I'm about as clear as mud! Ugh! Not expressing myself well at all!!

ANYWAY, Lexie is still being Lexie and she is clearly making the most out of being able to be herself!!! Even if you done let her sneak out anymore...that's just a "slight diminished version of herself" that vpcan be replaced by giving her an ice cream cone!!clap

This post has lit up my world today!!! Thank you!!!

Love and light to you and Lexie!!!!!

Sally and My Eternal Light Happy Hannah and Merry Myrtle too!

Happy Hannah had a glorious additional bonus time of over one yr & two months after amp for osteo! She made me laugh everyday! Joined April's Angels after send off meal of steak, ice cream, M&Ms & deer poop!

Hooray for zoomies!!!! I swear, Ms Lexi never ceases to amaze. Even through everything, she's just being dog (no thinking, just zoomie!)...that is the just the phenomenon that makes them such amazing creatures.

I think we need a tripawds shirt with a drawing of Lexi that says.... JUST ZOOMIE !!!

What a wonderful visual.....tripawd Lexie doing zoomies!

So glad to hear that while Lexie is "slowing down" that she still is enjoying her life on three legs.

Another wonderful lesson in "being more dog".

Many hugs

Our story: Broke rear leg in June 2013 - non-conclusive results for cancer so leg was plated and pinned. Enlarged spleen in September 2013 and had it removed and was diagnosed with Hemangiosarcoma and started chemotherapy. Became a Tripawd January 8th, 2014 and definitive Hemangiosarcoma diagnosis. Three major surgeries in 7 months and Shelby took them all like a champ only to lose her battle to cancer in her brain. We had 8 amazing extra months together and no regrets. #shelbystrong #loveofmylife
