Happy to report this post marks the end of Quincy's IV chemo treatment (yay!). He had his 4th and last round of carboplatin this morning along with a chest X-ray. Chest X-ray is clear. Blood work is good. Vet is very happy with his results and demeanor. He is fully recovered from his surgery (we are about 2.5 mos out) and now done with this fairly intense portion treatment (thankfully).

Vet said he gets to recover for about 3 weeks and then goes in for a quick check before starting the low dose daily chemo pill (metronomic therapy) that we give him at home. She expects him to tolerate it very well (especially since he did well with IV chemo). I am hoping she is right and there will be no issues. We will do the monthly blood work as a check and still undecided on the 3 mos X-rays (she did say the X-ray is the best diagnostic tool to catch the possible spread and thus allow them to adjust the metronomic therapy). We agreed to take it one month at a time.

He is way out of it right now due to the sedation of the X-ray (plus I expect the normal stress of the visit coupled with the chemo) but very very happy to be turning the page on this ordeal. 🐶😀🍾

Next update should be Hopping Around (hopefully).

She didn't say what the protocol was yet (and I didn't ask). All she said about it was he got the 3 weeks to recover and then we would go in for the blood work check and the dose would be "based on his weight". The questions I was asking were focused on side effects generally and given that we know he got diarrhea after his first round of carboplatin (because we didn't give metronidazole right away but waited for soft stool to appear a few days later. the other rounds we gave prophylacticly starting the morning of for a week and never had diarrhea again (so far)) I am a little concerned the metronomics will give him diarrhea too. She didn't think so but said we could adjust if it did. Quincy has such a sensitive digestive system I'll admit I am not entirely convinced but I have been surprisingly pleased with his virtual lack of side effects to the carboplatin (as the vet predicted).

Did Jerry ever have side effects?

So glad that Quincy is doing well!!! Hugs and scratchies for Quincyclapclapclapclap

Sending hugs,

Joan and her angel, Lily

Our beautiful Lily was diagnosed with osteosarcoma in her front leg on 12/14/11 at age 8 and had amp on 12/16/11. She completed 5 rounds of carbo. She was so brave and kicked cancer's butt daily! She lived life fully for 4 years, 3 months, and 15 days after her amp. My angel is a warrior princess. I miss her so much.
