We're at a loss. Honey had chemo almost 2 weeks ago. All of her recent blood work, heart check up and lungs were good. She hardly moved or ate anything yesterday. She was low last week, went to the vet and blood tests were fine. She had a great weekend and is lower this week. We don't know if she's in pain – just have no idea what's happening. I recall posts of other pups slowing down like this before they died but thought tests showed the cancer spread, others found lumps or a swollen tummy. Has anyone experienced this? Thank you.
I'm so sorry to hear about Honey. Holly had some reactions to her chemo – she was on carboplatin. Her first treatment was ok, but after that it often hit her hardest about 7-10 days after the treatment and her lows lasted about a week or more – bad appetite, low energy, etc. Did you ask your vet if it could be a reaction to the chemo? Through this website I learned that it could be helpful to get Holly on some anti-nausea meds. I think she finally got some of those for her 3rd or 4th chemo and they did help a bit. But the chemo still pushed her down – we went to 4 weeks between treatments to allow her to bounce back a little bit more between treatments. I would have to go back and check, but there was at least one time where they checked her blood the day before her next treatment and her counts were too low to do chemo so we'd have to wait an additional week. Is she eating? From what you're describing maybe it's just a reaction to the chemo? I'm sorry we can't offer more help. We'll keep fingers and paws crossed that Honey improves quickly!
Sending lots of pawsitive and healing thoughts,

OfflineSorry to hear that Honey isn't feeling up to par these days. It may be the chemo. If she isn't eating, you may want them to check for an ulcer. That is one reason why Skyler had stopped eating, it wasn't just that the cancer had spread. Keep us posted, and kiss that golden snout for us! Sending double golden hugs your way!

Offlinepoor honey, feeling rugged is no fun!! we agree with holly, it may be a delayed reaction to the chemo. gayle too did fine the first time, but after the remaining four treatments, the nausea/diarrhea kicked in about a week or so past the treatment. we did five rounds of doxorubicin. the vet gave her a shot of nausea medicine before the remaining rounds, and sent us home with additional pills to avert the 'belly' reactions. they helped us alot. geesh, hope honey gets back to being herself, paws crossed this is just a tiny bump in a long, long road!!!
charon & gayle
I haven't any experience with the symptoms caused by chemo treatments but just wanted to let you know we are thinking about you. I hope Honey gets past this and can get back to feeling herself again……real soon. I'm sure you will get a lot of replies throughout the day from those that have more experience with the effects of the chemo. In the meantime, I would call my vet.
My thoughts and prayers,

OfflineOh Honey, we are sorry you're down but it sounds like it's a bump in the road. Yes, like Fortis says, call your vet and talk about this, anti-nausea medications can help.
Please tell your pawrents not to think the worst right now. We're betting and hoping that is not an ominous sign of "the end" because when a Tripawd seriously slows down during that phase, it's usually accompanied by signs of pain, not being able to get up, coughing, etc. This the time to be hopeful and pawsitive, you will bounce back, we know it.
Have you tried adding some minced ginger to her food? Ginger is another anti-nausea recommendation by Dr. Dressler, along with other immune boosters and support supplements like CoEnzyme-Q10, Glutamine and Cordyceps. Always use with veterinary supervision, of course.
