My fears were again realized yesterday when the lab cytology report came back indicating that Tahoe's sudden large mass which very quickly appeared on his right hind is in fact STS.  Due to the needle aspirates and staining they can conclude STS but nothing beyond that.  We have battled hystiocyctic sarcoma for over 13 months and now this...

He appears relatively 'normal' in behaviour but there are some slight noticeable changes.  We are struggling with what are the best go-forward options for Mr T, given his age (10.5), unable to do more chemo (CCNU done previously), radiation not and option, and not sure about surgery.

Wondering if anyone has any success with treating STS using alternative treatments, and if so, what they may be? We have been, and still are, doing our daily homeopathic remedies prescribed by Dr. Loops, plus all the other regimen of supplements, etc.  I really am trying to stay focussed on what is best for Tahoe, and not my needs and wants, to ensure that the 'quality' remains as long as it can in his life and not be all consumed with testing and treating.

This is so damn sad and hard, as many of you can relate. We have fought hard and had 13 good months so far, and by no means giving up, but I want to time with Mr T to be solely focussed on him and his needs.

Sorry about the long ramble…all ears to suggestions.

Thanks,

Stirling and Tahoe

Oh no! You guys I'm SO sorry to hear this, darn cancer is just being so nasty to so many right now!

We are heartbroken, but we won't lose faith that Stirling can beat this. He's not too old and you are working with some great vets. If you don't want to go the conventional treatment route than you can't get any better than Dr. Loops, I know he will be able to come up with a successful plan for you. Lots of Tripawds like Maggie have fought STS with holistic remedies, it's not unheard of.

Be strong. Remember that Stirling doesn't know what the report says, he just wants to keep on truckin. Give him a big big smooch from us and keep us posted, we are here for you both.

ACL tear in right hind leg 12/5/12 and scheduled ACL repair surgery 12/21/12. Pre-op xrays revealed osteosarcoma. Amputation 12/28/12.  Chemo (carboplatin) started Jan 10, 2013 and ended on April 5, for a total of 5 doses. He handled carbo like a champ!  No side effects.  We started metronomic therapy at his third chemo and have been also doing some holistic treatments.  He's a lively, playful 10 year old huskie-boarder collie and a very proud member of the Winter Warriors!  Our love. Our funny little guy!

So sorry that Tahoe had a recurrence of STS, Stirling.

We're also in the aggressive STS club (just posted about it yesterday, which Katy linked to in her post), and now we're going to be asking about holistic options.

Keeping fingers and paws crossed for you guys.

Deb and Angel Lexie* Diagnosed at age 13. Tried radiation first; wish we had amputated upon diagnosis (even with lung mets). Joined Club Tripawd April 2014 & Lexie loved life on 3 legs! Advice: Start physical therapy as soon as your vet clears it, especially hydrotherapy if available :-) See Lexie pics here.

Thank you everyone for your support and ideas. I will certainly be looking at each one.  We all want to throw a lot of crap at the wall and hope something sticks to retard this damn cancer growth.

Each day is a special one!
