Hey, everyone-just want to say thank you for the support and information you have given! I took Happy to his pre-op "staging" yesterday and all is well for his surgery today. I feel really good about it. We were very calm and strong yesterday, and I have every confidence in the vets at A&M that are doing his surgery. We talked through everything yesterday for like an hour, and I know exactly what they are going to do(with trying to remove all of the tumor, including from his spine).  I finally 'accepted' all of this and feel good about him getting on with life with his three legs and feeling good again after his recovery…I'm sure I will be looking up the questions many have posted here recently as well as have more questions of my own, and am so grateful for this site and the wonderful vets who can do something about this.

Here's hoping all goes well with Happy's surgery! Get some rest while he's away from home.

Glad to hear you are feeling calm and good about the whole thing – that's the best way to be, for both you and Happy.

Keep us posted.

Jackie, Abby's mom

Abby: Aug 1, 2009 – Jan 10, 2012. Our beautiful rescue pup lived LARGE with osteosarcoma for 15 months – half her way-too-short life. I think our "halflistic" approach (mixing traditional meds + supplements) helped her thrive. (PM me for details. I'm happy to help.) She had lung mets for over a year. They took her from us in the end, but they cannot take her spirit! She will live forever in our hearts. She loved the beach and giving kisses and going to In-N-Out for a Flying Dutchman. Well even though we're Longhorns fans in this house, we say GO AGGIES just for Happy! He's really in great hands there. Good luck and keep us posted!

I hope the surgery went well- please post an update when you can.

Sounds like you are in a good place with all of this, it really helps I think when you understand everything that is happening.

Aww. I'm glad Daisy is doing well!

I am picking up Happy tomorrow. He has done well with the recovery in ICU so far. Yesterday he got up on his own and went out to go to the bathroom. His 'student' said he was a little apprehensive on the tile floor on the way out, but was very sure of himself coming back in. Can't wait to bring him home! I had car trouble coming home and the car is in the shop. I rented a car so I would not have to question if I would have trouble! So not-convenient right now but glad I could get a car! I wanted to be in the 'familiar' car, but he will be ok..I can't say I've had good sleep with relatives in for the holidays.

Wonderful news about Happy's surgery!  I am just now seeing a post about him – can't believe that I've missed his story thus far.  He is one incredibly handsome guy!!  I'm so impressed with your positive attitude and the fact that you prepared so well by talking at length with the A&M vets prior to the surgery.  Happy is one lucky dog to have you – a pawrent who will go to the length of renting a car to ensure that he gets home to you in a safe and timely manner!

Hopefully those relatives staying with you will understand the effort – physically and emotionally – that is necessary to get your new tripawd settled back in his home to recover.  Try, try, try to take extra good care of yourself during the double-whammy of Christmas and Happy's homecoming and recovery!

We'll be looking forward to future postings.  smile

Go Happy!!  Here's wishing you a wonderful recovery.  We were so surprised how well Lucy did her first day home.  We're on day 3 and she continues to amaze us.  I know Happy will do the same.  Let us know how it goes.

Regards,

Mary, Lucy's mom

Lucy's front right leg was amputated 12/19/11. Thankfully there was no tumor, but her nerves were found to be degenerative.  Life as a tripawd is Lucy's new adventure!!

Thanks, y'all! I love all of these pics of your babies. I got about an hour down the road today(it's a 2 hour trip from Austin), and the vet called and said Happy is running a fever and they want to keep him at least another night to find and address whatever the issue is. They are supposed to call me back this afternoon. I was bummed I didn't get to bring him home today, and I've been trying not to worry about what could be wrong. He said it may be that a suture is starting to get infected but they want to be sure and treat it before sending him home for Christmas.

Well, I know it is hard to be away from Happy, but it's good that Happy was still at the vet when the fever started so that he can get the care that he needs.  Hoping you can bring Happy home tomorrow- that would be a pawesome Christmas present, wouldn't it?

Get some rest!
