It is important to keep that front wrist healthy. Nitro sees a chiropractic vet every 4 weeks to help with this, and it does help, especially with his new hopping gait. Only 2 weeks post surgery, the labored breathing could just be due to that; Nitro certainly wasn't taking walks at that point, so good for Izzy! This whole new 3 legged-ness is energy consuming at first. Keep up the good work.

paula and nitro

Nitro 11 1/2  yr old Doberman; right front amp June 2014. Had 6 doses carboplatin, followed by metronomic therapy. Rocked it on 3 legs for over 3 years! My Warrior beat cancer, but couldn't beat old age. He crossed the Bridge peacefully on July 25, 2017, with dignity and on his terms.  Follow his blog entitled "Doberman's journey"

Thanks! I ordered her some grain free dog food and joint supplements. Probably going to get the k9 immunity plus as well. I'll keep an ear on her breathing as her activity level increases. I feel a little funny about her being off pain meds just two weeks after surgery, but then I think back to my own hernia repair and shoulder surgeries, and I was off pain meds two weeks out as well.

My lil hopper is doing well so far. Paws crossed that it continues! 🙂

Awwww Izsy, you ARE a model...a "Model of Perfection"! Such a beauty!! Shhh....don't tell your furless brother, but I bet you"wear it better"!

The heavy breathing was undoubtedly related ro the exertion a d just being exhausted! Being a tripawd is really hard work! That was a lot of excitement and a lot of activity! No worries...reallu!!

I had my Happy Hannah on K9 Immunity Plus. I did feel like it gave her a little boost in her energy level. And it wqs a "treat" she loved too!

Keep on rockin' Izzy! Just "rock" with a lot of rest stops inbetween!

Hugs to all!

Sally and Alumni Happy Hannah and Merry Myrtle too!

Happy Hannah had a glorious additional bonus time of over one yr & two months after amp for osteo! She made me laugh everyday! Joined April's Angels after send off meal of steak, ice cream, M&Ms & deer poop!

Extra loves for my pup. Once of my colleagues at work brought her some pig ears today. Aww!  It was a nice crunchy snack after her turkey patty and veggie dinner. <3 Sweet girl big-blink

Izzy is so beautiful. I can't help but stare at her pictures. And I'm thrilled she's doing so well. She obviously has first-rate pawrents.

Thanks, everyone. Check up with the vet went well today. Her doctor remarked that her body condition is better now than pre-op, so I guess all the extra treats have paid off. She did give her cephalexin for a mild irritation along her incision and we are monitoring a weird hacking that sounds like she's got something stuck in her throat but lungs sound clear for now!  🙂 Here she is, waiting for her friend Dr. Reeves.

Just wanted to do a quick check in and say that I hope Izzy is doing great and that she's adorable.  I love the t-shirts and I saw in the t-shirt post about using hair ties.  You're a genius.  I have the K9 Immunity and lo and behold her pickiness has actually been eating it with her chicken and rice.  And Salmon and Rice.  And pork chops and rice........you get what I mean.  She actually takes it.  How is her incision and has she stopped with the coughing thing?

Hope everyone is as well as can be expected.

xoxo

Thanks for checking in! Izzy is doing great! No coughing and the she takes her antibiotic without issue ... I just plop it in her food with a little cottage cheese or pumpkin and *POOF* ... gone. Incision is fantastic and I bought her a doggie sweater (much to her poppa's dismay) that works well because the neck doesn't stretch out and there aren't sleeves, just arm slits. I tried to snap some photos of her in it, but she keeps looking depressed.

I'll keep trying to get a cute shot of her! 🙂

I'm SO GLAD to hear she's doing well.  My heart goes out to you, me and everyone who has to watch their canine baby go through this. But wow, our girls (and boys) are living proof that love is the best thing for recovery.  I can't believe Izzy likes pumpkin of all things.  I keep hearing that dogs like the stuff.  I love it but Patches won't go near any non-meat anything anymore.  She's eating so well that at this point any food or treat that is made for dogs is...well.....just not good enough.  It's fresh, organic meat and rice for her.  And she likes to be hand fed.  What the heck?  She has us cracking up because she is enjoying the pampering to the highest degree.  I got a video of her running today.  Boy is she agile and good on her feet.  I hope Izzy is up and running before you know it.  She's adorable~  Funny how they're both white with those big brown eyes.  That I can't say no to.

I hope you have a great weekend!  Kisses to Izzy and hugs to her and her people.

xoxo

Just found and read the posts about Izzy--she's a beauty. Congrats on how well things are going since Izzy's surgery. It sounds like you are a loving pawrent and doing a wonderful job helping your girl adjust to her post-op life! And other folks have offered wise suggestions, which is part of what makes this site so helpful. My only comment is that I related to your initial concern about how Izzy was going to poop/pee. With our Phoenix (a 6-yr. old female pitbull who recently celebrated her 1-yr. ampuversary), at first I worried when she was pooping she might topple over. But I needed to realize that Phoenix--and other front-leg tripawds--are smart and adaptable. When Phoenix poops, she reminds me of a football player in a "three-point stance", balanced on her healthy front leg and ready to hop up into action after she's done. I offer you & Izzy the best of luck as you march on into her first year.
