Izzy ate without incident this morning and her dad (who is far less nervous than I) let her try the steps down into the yard - she did just fine! I know I'm a "nervous mom" so it's good to have him help her the first time or two (or 20) until I can bear to watch!

She's actually doing well and followed us upstairs this morning after breakfast just to be near. We aren't going to risk going down the stairs in the house for some time since it's a long and curved staircase. Her knees crack when she walks (hind legs) but she's really doing great 🙂

Yeah, I agree with the others...whatever works! I my whacky world, it's all about spoiling, spoiling and then spoiling some more!

Glad Izzy didn't jave any problems eating today. As with Jack, definitely could have been sore neck muscles, etc.

A d Izzy looks great stylin' the harness!! Slpw and easy on the stairs...still adjusting her muscles, etc. Sounds like she's really doing great though!! YAY IZZY!!!

Hugs to all!

PS...PATCHES DIGGING...PRICELESS!!!

LOL, thanks team tripawds.

First, I'm a nervous mom too and I hover and try not to stress.  Izzy is so adorable and looks so cute in her harness.  I'm glad she is better.  I must say, you are in good hands here.  I say it every day, thank GOD and DOG for this site.  They are such a huge help.

Now, yes, Patches is digging like it's her job.  She loves to dig.  And now her brother is digging too because she's making it look SO fun. I am just happy she's being the little dog she loves to be.  I have to get her running on video though.  It is the cutest thing.  Smiling, ears up, tail going and her little hop.

Keep us posted and I'm sending love and prayers.

xoxo

Ok....I have to. We adopted Patches' brother from the shelter.  We have no idea where he came from but we learned pretty quickly that he smiles on command.  And since I want to send a smile to everyone, well, here is Rooster smiling for the video camera.  Love and hugs,

OMG sa'cuuute! What a face 🙂

So, today was Izzy's first day home while I was at work. I was so afraid she'd hurt herself ... this morning she did something (not sure what because I was changing and had a dress over my head) and it caused her incision to weep a little. Maybe she tried to scratch an itch, I don't know. But she yelped and came hopping to me, like I could save he from it. So of course, I was convinced that she'd scratch herself open or something. YIKES!

Thank goodness, she didn't get hurt or anything while I was at work. She *did* pee on the floor, however. This is the 4th time she'd relieved herself in the house ... this was never a problem before. Is it the pain meds? Is she "pissed" at me for lopping off he arm? (pun intended)

Any thoughts?

No she's not mad at you for lopping off an arm. laughing It's probably the pain meds.  They can really do a number on our dogs.  Maybe she just got up and got confused and had to go.  You say her incision is weeping a little.  Max had one small area that leaked liquid and it was a seroma .  Some seroma 's build up under the skin and need to be drained by the vet and some open up and leak some.  The vet had us clean that area twice daily with hibiclense (you can get it at the pharmacy).  We mixed with warm water and dabbed it on the leaking area.  It helps keep the bacteria down.  When it first started leaking there would be quite a large wet area where he would lie. But as it healed it got less and less.  His stitches stayed in for almost an extra week because of it.  Glad to hear she's doing well.  You go Izzy!!

LATCHES! You not only smiled, but you winked at us!! And yes, I'm smiling and winking right back!!

IZZY! You don't want your mom to .make you wear diapers do you? As Linda said, the lain meds can make leeing inide haplen sometimes. They just don't seem to be aware that they are getting signals it's time to pee! Of x
Course, if you have any concerns check with your vet.

Good job Izzy!

Hugs to all!

I survived day 2 at work! More importantly, so did Izzy! She's so good and so cute, I can't stand it. She did try coming down the stairs last night - made it half way before I got there - so I just stayed close to help. Although she did fine, we are still restricting access to stairs when we aren't home and always carry her first thing in the morning/late at night. Groggy puppers + three legs + stairs = bad idea!

Here she is tonight with her poppa 🙂Image Enlarger

Awww Izzy, you look so cute and so content in your Pappa's arms. You are a very loved and very pampered pooch! You deserve it!!

The peei g in the house is most likely due to the pain meds. Of course, check with your vet if you have any concersn.

Izzy's pictures are always so sweet. She's really a beautiful girl!

Such a beautiful pup! The stairs still make me nervous and it's been 15 mos post surg for Nitro. He can go down 12 steps by himself ( and has), but I'm still over protective. I love the shirt! Keep up the good work.

Izzy continues to have a relatively easy recovery. She is happy, resting well for the most part (gets restless in the middle of the night, even tho pain meds are dosed properly) and has a GREAT appetite.

Last night, her poppa was petting her and decided that she "feels too skinny". So he brought her a snack of dog food with pumpkin puree (a favorite of hers). After her second dinner. In her bed.

She is seriously adorable!  Really so cute and I'm glad she's recovering well.  She looks good and you sound like you're getting the hang of it.  It gets less scary and as we feel less stress we can double the love.  Patches is eating like a champ too.  She and her brother got pork chops and rice today.  I seriously think her remaining three legs must be hollow 🙂

Continuing to end hugs and prayers.

So Izzy seems happy and doesn't seem to be hurting. She's just over two weeks out from surgery and her prescription for pain meds is about done, so I'm guessing she's "out of the woods" for the most part on major discomfort.

We're in NC and it's been non stop rain for the past several days. Izzy fell down last night when she was out to potty ... I knew because she came in and her shirt was dirty. No yelp or indication of pain at the time or since, so that is good.

Today she decided to go visit the neighbor as they were outside when it was her potty time. She hasn't been up to visit Max (the golden who lives there) and his furry cousin since amputation. She got to see them through the glad door but we didn't let the pups visit more than that for obvious reasons. Izzy was all wags with her human friends and jumped up to give kisses, the naughty lil thing. On our way home through the woods, I could hear her breathing become a bit labored. It sounded a little "rattle-y" in her chest, but no cough. I'm not sure if she was just a bit out of breath (this was her longest walk/greatest adventure since surgery) or if she's already having lung issues/mets.

Anyone with experience able to comment? I know the vet said it would be obvious when Izzy's time has come, but I'm wondering what to listen for in the early stages. Also, any input on using k9 Immunity plus? What about a supplement for her joints? Her front wrist seems to be clicking w every hop. 🙁 Thanks for your insights, Tripawd pals!
