I must say first since it seems the majority have friends with cancer. My heart goes out to you and your family and friend. I know in the end after all Fancy must go thru it would seem pale in comparison. Im sorry.
Fancys Home it was a 4 hour surgery done by Dr Chris Kelly at the SAHO animal hospital in Owasso, Oklahoma. Fancy had alot of infected muscle that was removed. Just to touch it made it bleed I was told. They gave here Ivs for fluid lose. They removed the femur and sewed her up. They said she was a good girl. She cooperated in all that they wanted to do. Shes Home resting and seems happier already. It doesnt look like she is in as much pain as she was before..
so pics of what a amputation should NOT look like first…she looks miserable

And Now–>The last 3 pics—- This is what I had invisioned all along..The muscle that remains is there to protect the abdoman wall. I am very pleased.

OfflineHa – had to laugh for Fancy does not look too pleased with the dreaded e-collar, known around here as the 'Cone of Shame'. Glad to know you are now on your way to recovery and wishing you a smooth road.
Fancy is a beauty! Really glad to hear that she is home resting and feelling better. And wow, you are right. Her surgery site look greatly improved. She looks like she can now focus on recovery instead of fighting infections…
Keep us posted on her recovery. She is a sweetheart!

OfflineGood to hear she is home, and the amp site does look much better now too.
What a trooper- two surgeries in such a short time. And I agree with Tazzie- she is NOT pleased with the cone!! I was lucky- Maggie's pug budah belly in combination with a short pug face didn't allow her to reach her incision.
Finally she is on the road to recovery!!
And thanks for the kind words for those of us with cancer dogs or spirit tripawds. The tripawd road is not an easy one, and it is really hard when you are dealing with the uncertainties of cancer. But I for one think that all tripawds (and people) bring good things to this community. I enjoy seeing tripawds recover and get back to life, and I always like to read good news and good stories!!

OfflineAwwww!
What a great and brave girl she is! And her dad is tops, too!
Infected muscle!???!!?!?! Oh, that would really make me mad!!! That explains why it wouldn't stop bleeding. Poor, poor girl.
Just think! She'll be the coolest hunting dog and you are going to be the coolest hunter!
(I wished she was here to hunt the pigeons in my backyard!
)
Heal and get better sweet girl!

OfflineDon't forget to rest when Fancy rests. It is too easy to sit and watch them sleep and then be totally exhausted. Trust me on this one, I learned the hard way :)

I layed down face to face with her and we had a nap today. I cant tell you how much i loved hearing her breath deep and slow compared to the fast and shallow painful breaths she was taking a few days ago. It sure was good to feel her breath on my face. my sweet FancyPants.
Wow, I was gone for a day and Fancy has had her surgery and is already home. Fantastic, I'm so happy for you Hoss. She looks great and I bet she feels a ton better now that that nasty infection has been taken care of. If you are ever down my way we should get together for a hunt. I would love to see Fancy in action.
Thanks for your kind remarks in regards to the C thing but to be honest, I don't think Fortis knows yet!
Wishing you and Fancy all the best.

Your confidence in her recovery is wonderful. I feel the same way. she will hunt again. I know her to well. she is such a lover gurl when shes home and laying around but when she goes to the field that dog is crazy. I know she will at least want a chance to see if she can. I will make sure she is safe. I wont let her overdue it. I think for her it would be easy to do. lol…here is a pic of last year Fancy and I back from a hunt. my buddy is taking the pic.

OfflineIt sounds like Fancy is doing well. The great thing about having the second surgery is that she's already learned to hop and get around after the first surgery. I think if you give her plenty of time to heal, and work her slowly into a routine, she'll be hunting again and enjoying life.

Hey Hoss, what a difference, after some stories you hear it makes you wonder if some vets should be practicing. I usually find that my gut feeling usually is the right one, even though sometimes I don't go with it, I wished I had, glad you followed yours. Good luck with the recovery, paws up, Spirit Gus and Dan
