Eurydice has been bleeding for a few weeks, it started just before chemo session 2.

I took her to our local veterinary hospital (to see the angel that found out what my girl had after 4 vets misdiagnosed her) and she did a urine test plus blood tests. His opinion was that it could be her late period (for the first time in her life she missed a cycle this winter), it could be a consequence of chemo or a urinary infection.

The results were up a few days later, blood was perfect and she did not have a urinary infection.

We had our 2nd session of chemo and the oncologist said it was probably her late cycle as all tests looked great so we left it at that.

Thing is she is still bleeding (not a lot but still ...) so I spoke to the oncologist yesterday.

He said there is a condition caused by chemo (I forget the name) that can be very serious but it is definitely not her case because she is very lively indeed (as you can see in her video posted today on the Size and Age Matters forum).

If she was affected by that, she would be prostrated, run a fever and loose her appetite.

Instead, she has been running around for a good part of an hour and ate (devoured is a more accurate word) breakfast and lunch.

So, we are checking this out on Wednesday as she will have her third chemo session then. She'll have an ultrasound done, to check her ovaries. The oncologist said chemo fiddles with the whole body so sometimes the ovaries can react. We will see ...

I am very, very proud of myself for not panicking like mad here and that is all thanks to you wonderful people !

The fact she is lively and looks so happy plus the oncologist didn't want to see her straight away calm me down big time as well.

I'll keep you posted and send you lots of hugs and cuddles to your lovely doggies and kitties heart

WOW!! You shoukd be proud of yoirself!! Great restraint indeed!! I. Fact, you are the antithesis of a "worry wart" star! You just became the first member of a new club created exclusively just for you!

"WORRY LESS! LIVE MORE!"

Good job!!

Slunds like eeveryone concurs this is related to big dogs not going by the rules when it comes to heat cycles! The ultra sound is a good idea, not because of anything worrisome, but because big dogs do sometimes get cysts in their ovaries that cause bleeding. You have done an EXCELLENT job of gettingg everything checked out! Yiu are such a good Mom! 🙂

Eurydice is clearly feeling SPECTACULAR and doing so well..........extraordinarily well so early on still! 🙂

Hugs and cuddles right back to ya'

Sally and Alumni Happy Hannah and Merry Myrtle and Frankie too!

Happy Hannah had a glorious additional bonus time of over one yr & two months after amp for osteo! She made me laugh everyday! Joined April's Angels after send off meal of steak, ice cream, M&Ms & deer poop!

Great job on not panicking and focusing on the fact that she is clearly feeling fine!  Excellent in fact.

Makes sense to me that chemo could cause that sort of confusion or over stimulation and have an effect like that.  Glad the vet isn't over concerned, but watchful.  Seems just the right course.

On October 27, 2016, nearly 6 months after amputation, and 18 months since his cancer likely started, we lost Pofi to a recurrence of Soft Tissue Sarcoma in his spine quite suddenly.  His canine sister also succumbed to cancer on March 1, 2019 - we lavished her with our love in the interim, but life was never quite the same without her only real canine friend. Cliff kitty had to leave us, too, suddenly, in August 2019. Lucia kitty grieved all these losses, but helped us welcome two new Lurchers into our home and our lives, Shae and Barley.

VERY proud of you since I panicked when I read the title!!! I am still getting better at that. I didn't know Eurydice wasn't spayed so I automatically went to the dark place ... glad to hear that vet thinks that it is the chemo messing w/her cycle. That does make sense. Lots of human chemo issues (except for hair loss) do happen in canines... keep us posted!

Our story: Broke rear leg in June 2013 - non-conclusive results for cancer so leg was plated and pinned. Enlarged spleen in September 2013 and had it removed and was diagnosed with Hemangiosarcoma and started chemotherapy. Became a Tripawd January 8th, 2014 and definitive Hemangiosarcoma diagnosis. Three major surgeries in 7 months and Shelby took them all like a champ only to lose her battle to cancer in her brain. We had 8 amazing extra months together and no regrets. #shelbystrong #loveofmylife

Good job thinking it all the way through and checking out all of the possibilities.  Even when you know you shouldn't panic at every little thing, it's really hard not to!

Thank you so much everybody heart tomorrow is the day so hopefully it will be just her late period.

And thank you Sally for this "worry less and live more" new club laughing I hope I can keep my membership intact ... and try to continue not to worry unless there is solid reason for that.

But let's not forget the sneezing panic ... Kerren, you made me laugh when you mentioned Mona's sneezing and you remembering us here big-blink

You are all such beautiful people, me and miss cow are so lucky having found you heart

Sending you lots of love and cuddles to all your fluffies heart

Well, have we got good news !!!

Eurydice went for her third chemo session today and she was supposed to have an ultra sound done to check her ovaries but ... the oncologist didn't think she needed it after all as she is doing so, so great and her blood is so purrfect clap

She really was full of energy today, we met a new friend, a lovely westie called Fred so she had a good hop around for about an hour and when we got to the hospital she was literally leaning from one person to the next deliriously happy to see them all again !

And as soon as she saw the oncologist she hoped fast and furious towards the poor man for some CUUUUUUUUDDLES almost got him down !

So the story is - and this might be useful for anybody else having the same happening to their entire females - chemo kills fast growing cells and the ovaries produce fast growing cells too. As chemo hits the ovaries the message goes that the body needs more cells to replace the ones that are being destroyed, hence the persistent "cycle".

As long as your baby girls are lively and active, look happy, have no fever and keep eating and drinking with gusto there is nothing to worry about.

The only instructions we got today were to reduce her food intake by 10 to 20% as miss cow here has gained 4 1/2 pounds/2kg in 3 weeks ... (apparently my cooking skills are second to none) she is now 148 pounds/67 kg so a lot to negotiate on 3 legs ...

Well, I could open a laundry business, there's tons of sheets to wash per day, the place looks like a permanent murder scene ...

Sending you all lots of love and cuddles to your lovely fluffies heart

Interesting I fo! Thanks for sharing it.

And YAAAAAAAAAY FOR A GREAT UPDATE!! I love the visuals you painted of Eurydice greeting everyone! And the fact that she loves going there and loves her Onco.....now that's a great recommendation from Eurydice! 🙂

Miss Cow, don't you worry about having to.lose weight, okay? We all know it's not "real" weight...it's just that temporary "time of the month" water gain! Now go eat some steak and ice cream!!

heartheart
