Joined tripawd when I found out my dog Macy (6) had osteosarcoma in front right leg. Vet found beg. of Nov, amputated mid Nov. Surg/recover. great. Had last chemo/returned for follow up X-ray 4 weeks from today. Dr. saw something, shadow, different position, or mets, said come back in 4 weeks found out this morning mets in lung, maybe 2 more months with her. Ever happen anyone else so fast and have more + outcome? Advice would be appreciated. Carmie

The vet told us that when we discovered Jerry's mets, and he continued to enjoy a happy life for another 8± months. Once metastasis was diagnosed, we put him on metronomics and K9 Immunity .

Here are just a couple of the many articles, video interviews and podcasts about osteosarcoma and lung metastases you will find in the Tripawds Blogs :

Okay, deep breaths!!! B R E A T H E.......B R E A T H E........Not the news anyone wants to hear, as many of us know all too well!

Many of us also know that those kinds of "timeframes" your Vet gave you don't mean much around here!! You have Jerry as an example.of that! You have a wonderful Rottie named Sassy as an example of that! Her mets were found at the third chemo (I think) and she got another almost eight months living life to the fullest!

Check out the links Admin gave you. Some here go with Metronomics, some go with Palladia, just as examples. Did your Onco offer any treatment plans to check out?

It sounds like your sweet Macy is symptom free, is that right? Were it not for the xrays, you would not know anything is up, right? Well guess what? Those xrays mean NOTHING to Macy!!! They don't mean squat!!

Macy could care less about days on a calendar and she certainly does NOT...DOES NOT...have a timeframe stamped anywhere on her precious butt! She is NOT a statistic. Macy is her own individual dog! Thise statistics don't "know her". They don't know her attitude, her spunk, her determination, her genetics, nor do they know the power of being loved by you! 🙂

Do NKT let this piece of crap disease interfere with your time together! Do NOT let it rob you kf the great days ahead you have with Macy! And you have MANY great days ahead with Macy!! Make every si gle moment count and don't think about "time"...think about MACY MOMENTS!! Make everyday MACY DAY!! STAY IN THE MOMENT! LIVE JN THE NOW!!! Macy sure is!! 🙂 🙂

And my Happy Hannah was another one who got GLORIOUSLY SPECTACULAR extended quality time (after a met "the size of a baseball") was found. I'm not advocating this for everyone, but my Happy Hannah convinced me that ice cream was a very important nutrient necessary to help her stay strong! I think it helped!

STAY CONNECTED!! Stay strong!! Macy isn't going anywhere anytime soon around here! We are right here by yiur side cheering for you zrnd Macy!! 🙂 We do need a favor though. Would you post some pictures of her? She looks ADORABLE in her avatar and we love ADORABLE around here!

Hugs!

Sally and Alumni Happy Hannah and Merry Myrtle and Frankie too!

Happy Hannah had a glorious additional bonus time of over one yr & two months after amp for osteo! She made me laugh everyday! Joined April's Angels after send off meal of steak, ice cream, M&Ms & deer poop!

Hello and thank you, thank you for all your wonderful and kind words of encouragement. I will look into the articles and metronomic and K9 immunity . I have to stop thinking of the time frames, you are right. I know the doctors mean well, but after reading some of tripawds posts it makes me think differently. I am happy we still have her with us since the Nov. 2016 diagnosis. You are also right that she doesn't know what is happening and is pain free. I was trying to think of other ways to spoil her, and happily I couldn't come up with many new ideas because she has and is always being treated with all of our love. I guess more mcDonalds hamburgers might help. I will definitely will keep in touch because all of the words of encouragement from everyone let us know we are not going through this alone. Macy and the rest of her family are grateful for having friends to listen and give advice and help. Thank you again, Macy and Carmie

I can "hear in your voice" you sound more positive and more empowered!! Standing ovation for you going on over here!! That's EXACTLY the kind of attitude you need to embody as you move forward and develop a treatment plan. And a "treatment plan" can be holostic, it can be "medical", it can be supplements, herbs...all of the above...none of the above...some of the above!

But the best treatment is your love! And I can see your love come shining through in every word you write!

And you ABSOLUTELY are not alone! You and Macy have the healing energy of your entire Tripawd Family on your side!

Hmmmm....now let's think of other ways to spoil Macy! You probably already let her kick your supper plates clean. Hmmm...has Macy ever had a Starbucks Puppy Latte? Do you have any deer poop or bunny poop in your yard? If you do, let her have a bite every now and then before you say "no". I have a feeling, she rarely hears "no" though! 🙂

And yes, lots of cheese burgers and ice cream!!

Hugs!

Thank you, I just ordered the K9 immunity plus so I am hoping that may help a little, still looking into the metronomic products. Have you heard anything about it? Is that through a vet? Thank you, Carmie

Hi Macy and Carmie,

metronomics are a type of chemo therapy, given orally. So yes, you would have to go through a vet for that. Also, browse the forums here a bit. There's quite a few of us here whose dogs developed mets obviously and there have been different ways to go about this. You can use the search function on the top left of the forum header. This may give you a few more insights yet and together with what your vet recommends you will be able to make a decision on what you feel is best for Macy, apart from a lot of TLC 🙂

all the best

Hi Carmie and Macy,

Lung mets are truly devastating news, I got down on my knees in pain when I heard those news ...

But you just have to keep going, there's no other way.

There are still treatments, my Eurydice did Doxorubicin (which sadly did not work for her but does work for other dogs) and now we are starting Palladia which is a oral chemo which targets lung mets specifically.

Once lung mets are present we know time is somewhat ticking as there is no possibility of remission at this point so it is really hard to focus on today and not think about timing.

But you know what?

You gotta live in the present even more than you did up to now and make each day special even if it's just about sitting outside hugging your fluffy and telling him how much you love him.

There will be a time to cry but it is not today, right?

Just do the best you can and make sure Macy is happy for as long as you can.

In the meantime check what treatment would be adequate for Macy and go ahead if you feel comfortable with it.

Sending you much love and cuddles to Macy,

Teresa and Eurydice xx

Eurydice 77kg/170lb Great Dane limping end of April 2016, amputation (right front leg/osteosarcoma) 4 May 2016 6 courses of carboplatin followed by metronomic therapy, lung mets found 30 Nov 2016. 3 courses of doxorubicin, PET scan 26 Jan 2017 showed more mets so stopped chemo. Holistic route April 2017. Lung X-ray 5 May 2017 showed several tennis ball size mets, started cortisone and diuretics. Miss Cow earned her XXL silver wings 12 June 2017, 13 months and 1 week after amputation and 6 1/2 months after lung mets, she was the goofiest dawg ever and is now happily flying from cloud to cloud woof woofing away :-)
