Hi everyone,

I haven't been on forums for awhile. I found out I am pregnant back in Feb this year and need to try to stay as positive as possible now. Sometimes my heart just breaks too much reading through some of the forum posts. And today I logged on and found out that Eurydice has passed, and though we never met in real life I am crying. I hate osteosarcoma.

Anyway - I just wanted to post an update on Chance since we have been MIA for awhile. In March we went in for leg pain and discovered his first lung met at that time. The leg pain is due to Hypertrophic Osteopathy which is rare but can occur as a result of lung tumors.

He has been on Tramadol, Metacam and Gabapentin daily. That keeps him pretty comfy and he is still a happy goofy boy. He has bad days here and there where his leg pain leaves him lethargic. So today we tried a new drug called Zometa (Zoledronate) which is a bisphosphonate drug that will hopefully bring much relief to the HO. It's an IV drip that takes 15 minutes to administer and we give it once a month for four months. I will update you on the results as we go along.

I haven't done any additional chest xrays. I don't really want to know what's going on in there to be quite honest.

We are 8 months and 8 days post-amp. I hope very much that Chance will still be with us when the baby comes in October. But if not, I am grateful for any day I have with him.

I hope the rest of you and your pups are all hanging in there and having happy days.

Love,
Patricia and Chance

Virginia

PATRICIA!!! Thank you soooo much for the update in our sweet and goofy CHANCYPANTS!! To hear he is doing well and holding steady gives us all a reason to smile! 🙂

Yes, it's been a really, really tough time with the transitions of some of our beloved family. We are all one here.

Today you gave us a reason to smile and we needed and appreciated that! 🙂

Is the treatment the same as, or similar to, pamarindate...okay....not even close to spelling it right! Anuway, the thing I'm not spelling right did seem to give Daisy some relief. Daisy was in the thread that Jackie and Angel Abvey started avput this rotten disease.

A d as far as anymore xrays, just look at Chance and know that, all thi gs considering he's doing very well. No stinki ' xrays are gonna tell him any different! Sure, he's gonna have some good and less good days. But Chancey will power through the days he's a little off and get back into the game!

You have your hands full so no worries at all about being on the site! You DO need to stay pawsitive and you DO need to stay in the moment....And you are doing aa great job of doing voth!! 🙂

That said, we sure woukd like to see some photos of fhis boy that we all adore!! 🙂
OH!!! A d you gave us another reason to smile....CONGRATS on a new little human on the way! 🙂

So come on ChanceyPants, we need you around to help with this new two legged baby!!

Cheering madly for yoh ChanceyPants!! 🙂 🙂

Lots of love and hugs!

Sally and Alumni Happy Hannah and Merry Myrtle and Frankie too!

Happy Hannah had a glorious additional bonus time of over one yr & two months after amp for osteo! She made me laugh everyday! Joined April's Angels after send off meal of steak, ice cream, M&Ms & deer poop!

Patricia, congratulations on your pregnancy. I understand wanting to stay positive, although you cried for Eurydice tears are a good release of fear and tension. We will all continue to hold the beautiful memories of Miss Cow bouncing along, ear flying, and enjoying life to the fullest.

I'm happy to hear Chancy is on Zometa. So is my sister! I keep telling her how she has so much in common with the dogs on this site. It really is wonderful that some of the cancer treatment and science is complimentary between dogs and humans.

So ChanceyFancyPants, we need some new photos when mom gets a chance. Please?

Hi Patricia,

Congrats and so sorry to hear Chance is having leg pain.  My boy Zatoichi did Zoledronate for 8 months for the primary tumor and it gave him some really good pain relief and I'm sure it kept the bone from fracturing.

I hope it helps Chance, too.

And this is a bit off topic, but for anyone using Zoledronate, it is a very expensive drug.  We used a coupon from GoodRx.com and got it for about $55 a month instead of the normal $1200 price in our area!

We are wishing you and Chance the the very best and pain free days soon!

Congratulations!!!

I totally understand your hesitance getting back on the forums. I too, have to take a break from time-to-time. We're a family here and when one hurts, we all hurt. My hat's off to those who are the rock foundation of this organization. They never take a break.

Chance is so very lucky to have you. I hope this new med will allow him to live life to its goofiest.

Patricia - I was reading about your Zato yesterday. The hub-a-dub and I are big fans of the old Japanese "westerns". Zatoichi is our favorite! What a great name!!

Patricia,

Congrats on the pregnancy.  Yes, you do need to try to stay positive.   We all need that release of tears.  It  is a normal thing as we all followed Eurydice and her journeys.

Sounds like you have a plan for Chance and it is a pretty good one.  Keep kicking butt Chance.

thank you everyone for your kind replies!

Chance has been in a good amount of pain since yesterday. I spoke with the oncologist though and it can take up to a few weeks for the Zometa shot to provide any relief. I've got him on all his usual pain meds and just hoping that the pain subsides a bit and that the shot will kick in and do a little something. Next shot is scheduled for July 18th.

He is the July pic in the Tripawds calendar and I really want him to be around with us for that month! Praying.

I would like to post some pics and vids of Chancey but I forgot how :/  I know there is an instruction page somewhere...........

Hey guys,

I hope Chance starts to feel better. It's SO hard to see our animals hurting. I'm glad you have your oncologist in the loop. Did they say anything about adding anything addional outside of his regular meds? Just curious.

We have our paws crossed he will be around to celebrate CHANCE MONTH too! Our fingers are crossed as well. Just a few more days and the pawty starts!

Here is a post about adding images to the forums. If you recall, you need to have them hosted somewhere on a photo-sharing site or in a Tripawds blog. Then you paste the photo URL into the little mountain scene icon box here in your forum editing tools. Not sure if that's reminding you but let me know OK? I'm happy to help and would love to see photos of Chance. Give him smooches from us in the meantime.

Ok I added a whole slew of Chance pics to my Tumblr... if you want to see them all they are all here: http://frigginh.....umblr.com/

I will attempt to post them in here but I am getting some "i frame" warning and it won't let me post them ... 🙁  Won't let me post my youtube vid either. I will keep trying.

Chance is laying next to me on the floor while I do this. He has a little snore going. At least he isn't panting and is able to snooze. He greeted me happily at the door tonight and though his back leg is clearly sore, he went out to potty, ate all his dinner and chowed down a bully stick. heart

Hugs to all the tripawd fams. And Jerry -- no new meds suggestions for now from the vet. What is prednisone good for? I see a lot of people on here have their pups on that towards 'the end'....

Sweet Patricia heart

I haven't been much to the forums myself either, whenever I can write I am on Eurydice's thread...

But I saw your thread and had to take a look ...

Your post to Eurydice was so sweet and I will reply to you separately in due course.

I was really sorry to hear Chancey Pants has lung mets but, as you know, you don't have to look at it as "the end"

Chance is having new medication, it takes time to kick in so you have to give it time ... and spoil your boy rotten, just like you are doing.

Predisone is, no more no less, than cortisone Eurydice's BEST friend, remember ?

Thanks to cortisone and diuretics we managed to get five whole weeks of marvellous, precious, fun, painless time with her!

And I am sure you'll still have lots of time with our gorgeous Chance.

Just look at him running or should I say flying (!) in the last picture you posted and look at his cheeky look hiding in the grass 🙂

That is the image of a HAPPY, HAPPY dog heart

You are such a good Mom, Patricia, the best Mom he could hope to have!

Whatever the future holds for both of you and wether he will be able to meet your human baby (congratulations clap) or not he is with you and will always be with you, I can promise you that.

And with his medication he will still be by your side for a long long long long time !

You need not do any different from what you have done in the past 8 months and 12 days, sweetieheart

Sending you an enormous avalanche of kisses and a trillion ear scratches and tummy tubs to our beautiful prince heart

Eurydice 77kg/170lb Great Dane limping end of April 2016, amputation (right front leg/osteosarcoma) 4 May 2016 6 courses of carboplatin followed by metronomic therapy, lung mets found 30 Nov 2016. 3 courses of doxorubicin, PET scan 26 Jan 2017 showed more mets so stopped chemo. Holistic route April 2017. Lung X-ray 5 May 2017 showed several tennis ball size mets, started cortisone and diuretics. Miss Cow earned her XXL silver wings 12 June 2017, 13 months and 1 week after amputation and 6 1/2 months after lung mets, she was the goofiest dawg ever and is now happily flying from cloud to cloud woof woofing away :-)

Iframe embedding is not allowed, for security reasons.

You can just copy the image URL from tumblr and use that for adding photos to forum posts , and Youtube videos will auto-embed when pasting the share link...but it looks like you've got that all figured out! way-cool
