Hi everyone,

Sorry not to have updated sooner, life got a bit hectic around the holidays!

The last I posted was the news that Barry had signs of cancer in his lymph node (in his removed leg).  We met with the Oncologist straight after the news and he did thorough tests and scans to see if there were signs that it had spread to his liver, spleen, abdomen or chest and luckily at this time there were no signs, but to be cautious he started him on chemotherapy, 8 sessions altogether.

Barry has had 5 sessions now and we are lucky he has no adverse side affects from this at all (he is currently rolling around my study begging to be taken out for a walk!).

He has adapted to being on 3 legs incredibly well, we were away at Christmas less than a month after his amputation and he did a number of long walks and never ran out of energy, other dog walkers were amazed and some didn't even notice he only had 3 legs as he was so fast!!

We don't know how long we will have him with us but we are living each day at a time, and every day I see him happy and full of life and enjoying being a dog I am thankful.  I was scared I would take the joy out of his life if he had an amputation but I know now that is not the case, it doesn't hold him back at all.  Seeing him free of pain I know it was the best decision 🙂

I will let you know of any updates and I will try and work out how to post a video as I have some good ones to share!

Thanks to everyone that supports us on the forum 🙂

What great news - glad he is adapting so well and chemo is no big deal for him.  And that you are embracing every day!  Go Team Barry!

On October 27, 2016, nearly 6 months after amputation, and 18 months since his cancer likely started, we lost Pofi to a recurrence of Soft Tissue Sarcoma in his spine quite suddenly.  His canine sister also succumbed to cancer on March 1, 2019 - we lavished her with our love in the interim, but life was never quite the same without her only real canine friend. Cliff kitty had to leave us, too, suddenly, in August 2019. Lucia kitty grieved all these losses, but helped us welcome two new Lurchers into our home and our lives, Shae and Barley.

Great news!   I love updates like this!

Otis - 106 pound lab/Dane mix, lost his right front leg to osteosarcoma on Febuary 9, 2016.  Four rounds of carboplatin completed in April, 2016.  Lung mets August 25, 2016.  Said goodbye too soon on September 4, 2016.   Lost his adopted sister, Tess, suddenly on October 9, 2016. likely due to hemangiosarcoma.

Wherever they are, they are together.

No need to apologize at all, you and Barry are living life to the max! Congratulations on an awesome recovery and new life on three legs, you are both role models for taking this leap of faith and staying pawsitive through recovery (and beyond). Barry is a great ambassador to show the world what Tripawds can do!

Lots of ear scratches and tummy rubs to you, sweet boy, and hugs to your family 😘😘😘😘💞🐶

Murphy's lymph node was positive, too, but here he is, almost 4 years later!  big-grin

Glad to hear all is well!

Way to woop that chemo Barry!

I think I shared with you before that my Pug Maggie had cancerous mast cells in the lymph node removed with her leg.  She turned her 6 to 9 month prognosis into almost 4 years and did not pass from mast cell cancer.

I can't wait to see the video!

Karen and the Spirit Pug Girls

Tri-pug Maggie survived a 4.5 year mast cell cancer battle only to be lost to oral melanoma.

Hi everyone,

It's been a few months now since Barry finished his chemo and just in case this is helpful to anyone that read about him previously I just wanted to send a quick update!

4 weeks after Baz's final chemo session he had an ultrasound of his chest and abdomen and they took samples of his liver and spleen to see if there were any signs of his cancer......it was a nerve racking wait for the results but they came back all good!!  He was sent away to be a happy dog for 3 months.

We just went back for the 3 month tests, they decided they didn't need to do a full check up as he seemed so well but his lymph nodes in his neck were slightly enlarged so they took some samples, a horrid 2 days passed and the results came back as 'no cancer'.  He now has another 3 months before his next check up.

I try and live by the 'Be More Dog ' motto and try not to continually stare and analyse his every move but it is hard....I cope by knowing he's having the best time, it's a rollercoaster having a dog with cancer but the good times are worth it...I can't believe it's nearly one year since his diagnosis.

We discovered over the weekend the little tinker can in fact still jump up on to the bed without help when we're not looking, he's just been pretending as it's nice to get a lift!!!  Made me laugh at loud when I saw his face when he got caught outsmiley

A friend sent me this link this morning about your convention, it sounds like you all had a wonderful time!!  This community really is amazing, keep it up!
