His bloodwork looked great at the vet, so Astro had his first round of Carboplatin today. I can't believe the sheer volume that they pushed in!  But he handled it like a champ and got lots of ear scritches and kisses from the staff. We stopped at Starbucks on the way home, but he puked in the car before he could claim his reward, so we saved his treats for breakfast (hopefully). Home now and he crawled straight up and fell asleep. So now we have a standing date, every wednesday for bloodwork, with a Carbo treatment every 3 weeks (6 rounds total). Is that pretty standard? I've been reading all the site references, but it seems as if there is a little variation depending on the vet.

Quite the pair...

Quite the pair indeed! That's what sofas were created for! 🙂 And smooching Astro's smoochable mug!! 🙂 🙂

The number of treatments really does seem to vary Onco to Onco and based on what they were taught in school!

Happy Hannah's Onco advixed going with four rounds of Carboplatin. I felt very comfortable with that. She was lucky in that she sailed through them with no issues.

Sorry Astro couldn't enjoy his Starbucks! Hopefully tomorrow!!

I'm sure the Onco gave you Cerenia should he experience any nausea, which can happen.....and maybe aready did!

SMOOOOOOCH Astr for me, and Nurse Rosie and Leo too!

Sally and Alumni Happy Hannah and Merry Myrtle and Frankie too!.

Happy Hannah had a glorious additional bonus time of over one yr & two months after amp for osteo! She made me laugh everyday! Joined April's Angels after send off meal of steak, ice cream, M&Ms & deer poop!

Love the pic, he's so adorable.

Ask the vet if he can give him an anti nausea injection when he gets Chemo.  They did this for Otis and I gave him Cerenia for 4 days after his chemo treatment.  He never looked nauseous or vomited.

Fingers crossed Astro has no side effects.

Otis - 121 lbs pre amp - 114 lbs post amp and now 118 lb Great Dane - English Mastiff X.  Started limping on 12/24/16.  Diagnosed with Osteosarcoma 12/28/16 - amputation of front left leg on 1/6/17.  Stitches out and 1st round of Chemo on 1/19/17.   2nd round of Carboplatin on 2/10/17 - 3rd round on 3/2/2017.  4th round was scheduled for 3/22/17 - however due to low WBC postponed - 4th Chemo completed on 3/28/17.  Had breathing difficulties, stayed in Tufts ICU overnight.  Due for 2 more rounds of Chemo but we are opting to go with homeopathy with Dr. Loops instead.

Look at that boy, what a rock star!
Yep, 4-6 sessions is the standard. Looks like there's lots more trips to Starbucks coming his way!

Well, he did get an injection of cerenia with the first influx of Carbo, but maybe it just hadn't fully kicked in?  Astronaut has been great since, no more upchucking and he slept through the night just fine. Got up for breakfast with no complaints. They did send us home with 4 days of Cerenia and a round of Metronidazole, so hopefully we are covered. It's kind of adorable how his sibs take turns sleeping with him. Rosie got up early this morning, so Zig moved over to fill the space.... goobers.

Always afraid to say how awesome he is doing. Don't want to jinx it.   Even though he was a picky eater for awhile. He gained almost 2 lbs!  14 days post Chemo and no issues.  Will get CBC results tomorrow.

So glad to hear Astro is doing so well!

Had another good day napping in the sun, although his appetite seems to have doubled in the last day or so! So lots of eating in between naps!  He's been feeling pretty good, so I am contemplating taking him on a short car-camping trip to the desert next week. Still not sure if it's tempting fate. It's a roughly 3 hour drive, so we could always turn around and come right back, just not sure if he's up to traveling yet.  It's been weeks since we had a "get outside and enjoy nature" day. Ah well, I think we will play it by ear and see how the weekend goes. Still have 2 more days of Cerenia to go.  Happy FriYay!

Cheers,

Kat and Astro and Rosie and Zig

Such a good looking boy! His coat is so shiny and healthy looking. Good sign!!

If Astro likes car rides and you are mostly just relaxing in the camping trip, that shouldn't be a problem. Just don't want him to overexert, but you already know that.

You know we have to have pictures if you go...........and even if you don t!

Hugs

No bad side effects (aside from the first upchuck) from the chemo 5 days out! He does have a serious increase in appetite, but whats a few extra cheeseburgers here and there? laughing  On a side note, Astro and Rosie were always friendly, but ever since Astro's amp, Rosie seems to have 'formed a club' for the two of them.

Poor Zig feels left out now that these two are constant nap buddies. I can already see Rosie masterminding a manifesto: Tripawd Power - No four legged freaks allowed! (Unless they agree to give up 1/halfs their food rations ebery week).....

Guess we have to hope Astronaut will be the Voice of Reason.

Haw haw! Yep, those four leggers are so odd aren't they? Poor Zig! Give him an extra cheeseburger, that should make up for him feeling left out.

Glad Astro is kickin' butt!

Looooove the snuggle photo!! A Tripawd Power Nap is such a glorious thing! 🙂 So sweeet!

Don't worry Zig, you go ahead and give those silly Tripawds some of your food. And after you eat yiur cheeseburgers, you can let them smell your breath as you prance vy them...on all fours!

Hugs!

Some moments, I think it just isn't possible to love him any more than I already do.
