Well, the patch has definitely worn down a bit. The space cadet was very nearly back on earth today. He's been much more watchful and paying more attention to his bratty big sister (Rosie), who has been trying her best to annoy him all day. Midday, he decided he wanted to go outside and sit in the sun in the front courtyard, so out he went for two hours of Vitamin D therapy. He also got up on his own for both meals. Mostly he still seems pretty withdrawn, but other than that, he is a champ. Rosie has taken over chaperone duties, so I guess I'm obsolete for awhile...

Nurse Rosie you are such a great healer! I know Astro is looking at you going "Hey sis, if you can do it so can I."

Glad to hear he's looking better every day. How can he not when he has such a great pack helping him get there.

Well, the patch came off today and it's been a pretty good day. Glimmers of Astro coming back as he adjusts. He hoped in and out of the car (carefully) to go to the vet, sat up at the starbucks drive thru for his bacon sandwich, and came home and hopped up on the couch like he owns the place. The moment he picks up one of his toys, I'll know he's over the transition.

He does have a small black (necrotic) spot on his incision that we are keeping an eye on, but so far the vet thinks its ok.

YAY FOR ASTRO and his Puppabacon Frappawich!! 🙂 🙂

Seeing the sparkle to come back, slowly but surely, is such a joy! Can't wait to hear about when he picks of his toys.....and with pictures!!

And yes Astro, we know you own the place! No "acting" involved!!

I remember the first time Happy Hannah gave .e a "Woo Woooo" when I came home. Even though it was from her bed, it brought me tears of joy! Then when she first greeted me at the door Woo Wooing" while carrying her food bowl....yeah....pretty much ranks up there as o e of my happiest moments

BTW, looove the pictures of that Astro! Such a great mug with terrific jowls! 🙂

Hugs!

Rosie is one smart cookie watching out for the AstroMan! She knows any day know he will be back to his goofy self and she can take over the napping in the bed part!!! I say she deserves double bacon all around! Congrats on a smooth recovery!

Wow sitting up in the car already!!  So happy to hear how great he doing!

I'm not sure Otis could do that yet! Maybe I'm too overprotective of his remaining legs - the front one especially. I think I need to let him go back to being him instead of limiting him so much.

Is Astro hopping so fast you can't keep up with him yet?  Lol these big guys can get some distance and speed with each hop.

Otis - 121 lbs pre amp - 114 lbs post amp and now 118 lb Great Dane - English Mastiff X.  Started limping on 12/24/16.  Diagnosed with Osteosarcoma 12/28/16 - amputation of front left leg on 1/6/17.  Stitches out and 1st round of Chemo on 1/19/17.   2nd round of Carboplatin on 2/10/17 - 3rd round on 3/2/2017.  4th round was scheduled for 3/22/17 - however due to low WBC postponed - 4th Chemo completed on 3/28/17.  Had breathing difficulties, stayed in Tufts ICU overnight.  Due for 2 more rounds of Chemo but we are opting to go with homeopathy with Dr. Loops instead.

Our story: Broke rear leg in June 2013 - non-conclusive results for cancer so leg was plated and pinned. Enlarged spleen in September 2013 and had it removed and was diagnosed with Hemangiosarcoma and started chemotherapy. Became a Tripawd January 8th, 2014 and definitive Hemangiosarcoma diagnosis. Three major surgeries in 7 months and Shelby took them all like a champ only to lose her battle to cancer in her brain. We had 8 amazing extra months together and no regrets. #shelbystrong #loveofmylife

So, it could just be my major paranoia, but I swear Astro's black spot is bigger today.  Doesn't seem to bother him at all, but it's definitely messing with my head. And we finish his round of antibiotics tomorrow.  Anyway, other than that, he seems to be doing great on just gabapentin. Hopped up and reclaimed the bed today and spent most of the afternoon twitching and dreaming. Eating well and had one monumental poop this morning. Monumental. 😜

Is it bruising? Someone suggested that I take photos of Shelby's wound daily while she was healing to check the changes. Perhaps you are already doing that.

BTW - your location says "Sunny California".. may I ask where in CA you are or is that that town? I'm in LA.

Rest up Astro!!!! You look very comfy!

It is definitely not bruising, the tissue is dead (necrotic).  I guess I hope it's just a small patch that didn't get enough blood flow and will end up forming a kind of scab? Vet said all the tissues underneath had great perfusion, so it's likely he will just slough off that small patch. The purpley red spots are bruising, but I've been hot/cold packing him and it seems to be healing pretty well. It's just the darn black spot. OUT, OUT DARN SPOT!    I do take daily photos, just to keep track of these kind of changes. Great for documentation, bad for paranoia.

We are up in the central valley, Fresno. Howdy neighbor!
