Carly is doing great! That's awesome.

Hmmm, wondering about the whining at night, if that's pain or something else. It sounds like she may need to stay on the Gaba longer. Nothing wrong with that, some dogs just need it longer, just like people.

Tramadol is known for causing anxiety and vocal behavior but Gaba generally just makes dogs really tired. Have you talked to your vet about the behavior?

The vet said that since I am just giving the gaba at night and she just howls at night, that maybe it's just making her a little loopy or hallucinate. I am just so scared she's hurting but it's only at night. Another thing, she was more active the past week and then went back down again. I wonder if maybe changing scenery and taking a walk may help? Just seems that she doesn't want to get up from her bed... 😩😩😩 TIA!

Hmmm. It could be. And this is just another guess...it sounds like she's had too much activity. What's her day been like?

Reluctance to get out of bed is a pain indicator. See our latest post about pain in dogs and cats:

She only gets up to eat and go potty. She pretty much stays in her bed other than that all day.

Aww poor pup. See what happens in a few days/nights and if it doesn't get better look for a pain management specialist. For lots of dogs a change in scenery helps. If you can get her outside, in a wagon, car or just soaking up the sun, that could definitely cheer her up. Massage helps too, here are some posts about it:

Only at night?  Where is she sleeping?  Is it someplace she feels safe, comfortable and normal?  Most importantly, is it by you, if that was her habit before?

Otis - 106 pound lab/Dane mix, lost his right front leg to osteosarcoma on Febuary 9, 2016.  Four rounds of carboplatin completed in April, 2016.  Lung mets August 25, 2016.  Said goodbye too soon on September 4, 2016.   Lost his adopted sister, Tess, suddenly on October 9, 2016. likely due to hemangiosarcoma.

Yea it's only at night. She was on her toddler mattress in her room but now she has taken over my daughters Minnie Mouse sofa bed lol. When I am home, she mostly stays on me but it's hard with a 2 year old lol. She snuggles her a lot too lol I am just hoping her old self comes back soon. I know it may not be 100% but just so she is happy 😉 One more thing, is her remaining front leg supposed to get pretty big? I am thinking that may be a factor too is that her remaining foot may just be sore or tired from the extra weight?? Sorry for so many questions...

Ask away! This recovery period was uncharted waters for all of us!! You are Carly's advocate, her voice.

Did the swelling just now start? I'd go in and have the vet check out her swollen leg. So many possibilities....sprains...torn ligament, etc. It could ccertainly be a source of pain. Is it sore to touch it? Does she flinch if you do a gentle massage? And she certainly wouldn't feel like walking much if her leg is hurting. So yeah, go and get her checked out.

Let us know what the vet says. I know it's hard to see right now thst her sparkle will come back...but it will! It took me three weeks before I could finally say I did this FOR my Happy Hannah and not TO her!

I love the visual of her sleeping arrangements! We have to have pictures!

Lots of hugs!

Sally and Alumni Happy Hannah and Merry Myrtle and Frankie too!

Happy Hannah had a glorious additional bonus time of over one yr & two months after amp for osteo! She made me laugh everyday! Joined April's Angels after send off meal of steak, ice cream, M&Ms & deer poop!

I did not notice any change in Otis' remaining front leg, so I suggest you mention it to your vet.  Other than that, make sure she isn't overdoing it with her activity.

My daughter used to have a Spider-Man sofa that Otis just loved!
