Now that she has completed her meds, we see her tail wagging more and her eyes bright and ears up, always listening for the fridge opening, hoping for treats. Now, we are looking to do Chemo for her – Carboplatin.
Anyone know of a place in San Diego for Claudia to get Carboplatin Treatment? A few places I found were outrageously expensive; it seemed they wanted to push additional unnecessary treatments.
Thank you everyone for helping us through her amputation. To see her happy again, makes us glad we chose this path.

I only wish you lived here in Washington State. Carboplatin is not rare or outrageously expensive. In fact it now is generic so the price has dropped in just the past few months or so. I do know that blood tests are necessary to verify that their body can handle the chemo and CBCs (complete blood counts) are done to be sure they are tolerating the treatments.
I truly hope you can find a competent, caring vet in your area and get Miss Claudia taken care of. Where is the nearest Vet school? I would contact them for referals and informataion. Maybe take a look at the forum related to costs of surgery and treatment, here on Tripawds. Maybe there is someone listed there in your area.

Meanwhile, if you want to see what others have paid for treatments so you have something to compare the quoes to, you can check out this discussion.
What you have to ask yourself is, were the quotes you received within the same ballpark as one another? If so, it's probably the going rate for your area and a dog of Claudia's size. Were the quotes from cancer specialty centers or vet's offices? Specialty centers will cost more becuase you are paying for board-certified expertise. While many vets can certainly give chemo treatments, you must be sure they have the knowledge and background to do it safely and accurately.
We noticed in this tour of Veterinary Cancer Group offices in Orange County that they have a lot more systems and processes in place to administer chemo than a regular vet's office, and because it's all they do, they also have highly trained staff who know what their doing. If you choose to go with a cheaper price in a vet's office, please, please make sure you grill them and find out what their procedures are, what oncologists they consult with, and what they would do in the case of an accident (they do happen). And get referrals, no mater what.
By the way, Veterinary Cancer Group does have an office in Orange County.
