dicalcium phosphate in a powder

Trouble is on a new home cooked reducing diet and this is an illusive ingredient I haven't been able to locate. I've tried farmers mercantile, tractor supply, and the pharmacy.  Talked to Dr F just a little while ago and he suggested a health food store.

You guys know everything so I thought one of you could save me some time searching.

Thanks, Diane.   I found all those, but not overly excited about them – most are from China, many are huge bulk, and others shipping doubles the price.  Was hoping to find something local or at least through a major chain.

Still searching, searching, searching..

What happened to the green bean diet?  You can find that at Walmart for around 60cents a can!  Or better yet skip the salt and buy the frozen kind!

Hey Shanna, this is new stuff to us, but obviously well known in pet nutrition. Where did you hear about it?

Here's a good source. We actually know these people pawsonally, they're from our old hometown:

Here's a good source. We actually know these people pawsonally, they're from our old hometown:

I heard about it from the vet.  I read doggie home cooked diets until my eyes crossed and then sent Dr F a note and asked what he would recommend for a home cooked reducing diet.  He sent me one simple enough for 'anyone' to follow, but this one ingredient has totally eluded me.  It is for caclium – it is actually the ingredient in pills that keep them from crushing in the bottle.  There are a variety of supplements that list it as an ingredient, some as the primary ie) PetTabs Calcium.

I'm really glad to know you are familiar with that company, it was one of the only ones I would have considered from the google search.  My problem is that the shipping is as much as the product – and I admit that is a mental thing with me, it isn't the price, but my head telling me it is rediculous.  Unless I find it at a compounding pharmacy today, I'll place the order.  Thank you for stepping up for the hometown folks, it really did make a difference this time.

And Comet – the green beans were being added to Natures Balance reduced calorie kibble.  I wasn't real happy with it – too many carbs, but Dr F was wanting to try her on Science Diet, and we won't go there, just suffice it to say it is filled with corn which I know she doesn't do well on for the allergies.  In the evening she was getting a green bean snack.  Well two weeks into it, Trouble wasn't wanting to eat and would lay in the kitchen and cry, whine, and moan.  I was beginning to think something was really wrong.  I got her switched to the homemade diet Wednesday evening and the 'kitchen bitchin' has stopped, and she doesn't have to be coaxed to eat anymore.  If I can get this dicalcium phosphate thing in order, we'll be in business.

I usually use the PetCal tabs to supplement calcium with good results (made by PetTabs).  I have never used a powdered form so I'm afraid I can't help you there.

There's only one way to overcome that; order more stuff! ;)

Interesting that your vet knew about it, but recommends Science Diet. Ugh.

I placed the order this morning.  It was about $13 with shipping.  The dicalcium phosphate was $4.33.  Ticks me off, but it should last a long time only using 1 1/2t a day.  I'll have to see what else they have to offer for my next order to make the shipping worth while.

Interesting that all the vets in our area seem to have a love affair with Science Diet.  I did try the allergy blend – Trouble did worse on it than anything (other than raw – when I overdosed her on protein).  It kind turned me on the whole line.

Sounds like the sales rep is quite good then.

Glad to hear you got the stuff. I like those guys, the founder helps Jim and I a lot with our satellite system. If it wasn't for him, we probably wouldn't have been able to keep Tripawds going when we hit the road with Jer.
