• Total cost of surgery?

           – Initial biopsy ("Punch" biopsy) – $95 (original vet)

           – Blood work/buffy coat analysis and chest x-rays – $300 (new vet)

           – Abdominal ultra sound and biopsy of spleen and liver – $750 (overly priced clinic in Louisville, KY )

           – Amputation – $850 (new vet)

           – Misc pain meds, prednisone, etc  from time of diagnosis to present (5 months) – about $200-300 (new vet)

No chemo, doing a homeopathic cancer protocol.  Total Cost over 5 months – about $350.  Expected cost over next year – about $250 (high estimate).

• Total cost of surgery? $2,365 included two nights, harness and pain meds. Getting to that point (x-rays and exams) was another $1,000.

Chemotherapy Costs

• Type of chemo given? Carboplatin
• # of sessions? 3 so far, looking at doing 6.
• Total cost of treatments? About $400 a session (would be about $500 at the U of M). This includes exam and CBC (does NOT include any of my constant neurotic requests for x-rays, aspiration of existing lumps, or medication for nausea, antacids, NSAIDs, antibiotics).

I have a question: Why are the carboplatin treatment costs so widely variable from location to location (excluding dog size)?
