Skyler earned her wings and regained her right rear limb on 6/11/2010. Chloe earned her wings and joined her sister Skyler on 4/4/2011.They are now "Happy Together" with all the other Tripawd heroes and other furbabies that are running free at Rainbow Bridge.

My sweet golden Mackenzie. She became my angel on Dec 29, 2010 at the age of 8 1/2 although she was always my angel from the time we brought her home. She was diagnosed with osteosarcoma in Sept 2009 and officially became a tripawd (front leg) on Nov 5, 2009. She will be forever in my heart and now she's running free with all of our other tripawd heroes. I love you Mackenzie!

Jake, 10yr old golden retriever (fractured his front right leg on 9/1, bone biopsy revealed osteosarcoma on 9/10, amputation on 9/17) and his family Marguerite, Jacques and Wolfie, 5yr old german shepherd and the newest addition to the family, Nala, a 7mth old Bengal mix kittie. Amputation Costs
- What city/state/country/date did your Tripawd have the amputation? New Albany, IN March 2, 2010
- Total cost of surgery?
– Initial biopsy ("Punch" biopsy) – $95 (original vet)
– Blood work/buffy coat analysis and chest x-rays – $300 (new vet)
– Abdominal ultra sound and biopsy of spleen and liver – $750 (overly priced clinic in Louisville, KY  )
– Amputation – $850 (new vet)
– Misc pain meds, prednisone, etc from time of diagnosis to present (5 months) – about $200-300 (new vet)
- Private practice or teaching hospital? All private practices
No chemo, doing a homeopathic cancer protocol. Total Cost over 5 months – about $350. Expected cost over next year – about $250 (high estimate).

Amputation Costs

- Total cost of surgery?
– Initial aspiration and leg xrays approx. and blood work $600 (local vet)
- Biopsy and chest xrays approx. $800 (local vet)
– CT scan and abdominal ultrasound and consultations with specialiist at teaching hospital approx $3000
– Follow up CT and minimally invasive surgical remove of thymoma — teaching hospital approx. $3000 with 2 night stay
– Amputation, 2 night/3 day hospital stay, follow up visit for stitches removal, all meds – $3500
Private practice or teaching hospital? Both.
Surgery "curative" no follow up chemo or radiation. Estimate for definitive radiation was approx. twice the cost of amputation (though not the basis for our decision)

Amputation Costs
- What city/state/country/date did your Tripawd have the amputation? St. Paul, MN at the University of Minnesota (Skol Vikings and Go Gophers!) on June 11, 2010.
- Total cost of surgery? $2,365 included two nights, harness and pain meds. Getting to that point (x-rays and exams) was another $1,000.
- Private practice or teaching hospital? Teaching hospital (part of the pre-surgery costs was at a private practice)
Chemotherapy Costs
- What size is your dog? 108 lbs at surgery, 98 lbs after surgery, 93.6 lbs right now.
- Type of chemo given? Carboplatin
- # of sessions? 3 so far, looking at doing 6.
- Total cost of treatments? About $400 a session (would be about $500 at the U of M). This includes exam and CBC (does NOT include any of my constant neurotic requests for x-rays, aspiration of existing lumps, or medication for nausea, antacids, NSAIDs, antibiotics).
- Private practice or teaching hospital? Private practice.

Those seem to be pretty avg costs. Each situation is a little different. It's btwn $2500- 4000 all together down here in pricey Southern Cali at the place we went to.. w/ a top notch surgeon. (private facility)
I opted to not have a leg pathology done since I had a biopsy performed. I would not do a biopsy in the future tho. It only caused Zak pain & it was uneccasary. Xrays were enough to diagnose the cancer. I still feel horrible that I put Zak thru that.

- Total cost of surgery? – $3400 (including pathology on leg and growth on ear that turned out to be nothing)

I have a question: Why are the carboplatin treatment costs so widely variable from location to location (excluding dog size)?
