Hi Guys,

I know it has been a long time, but mom has kept me VERY busy with a new brother and stuff!

I have a friend who is in need. A cute little Heeler mix named Hogan. He is a new Tripwad!. His 'family' took him to the Vet to be killed because his leg had been shot! Well thank goodness the nice folks with Scouts honor rescue was there and saw him. They saved his life!!! But now they need a foster or an adopter for him. Read below.......

Meet Hogan!  Hogan came to us under sad circumstances. Hogan had owners but had allegedly gotten out somehow and went missing. But, being a loyal companion, Hogan returned home after a few days. However, while he was out he was shot in the leg by some horrible person. Even after being shot and suffering extreme pain, this boy didn't give up and lay down to die, but hobbled back home. When he got home he probably expected his family to be thrilled and do everything they could to help him. Unfortunately for Hogan, that was not what happened. His "family" took him to the vet, considered saving him, and then decided they didn’t want to spend the money on a “dog”.  So they just left him there and then just called back on the phone and said to put him to sleep. So poor Hogan's family's reward for his loyalty was to desert him and have him euthanized.  Well, we happened to be there with one of our other dogs who is very sick (Beetle) and couldn't let such a sweet boy suffer such a horrible fate and we stepped in to help him.

Hogan had been shot in the leg which shattered all of his bones in his left front leg and it was beyond saving.  So, he underwent surgery late Sunday (2/12/12) night and is recovering nicely.  Understandably, our sweet boy is having a bit of a tough time right now trying to figure out why he only has 3 legs now and probably more importantly, why his family is gone.  The vets and vet techs are just doting over him and he is a very lovable guy.  Even before they got him on pain meds, they were all commenting on how sweet he was, despite the excruciating pain he must have been enduring.

Now what Hogan needs more than anything is a foster home to recuperate in and eventually a forever home.

Even if you can't adopt him, consider opening your home to him so he can recover in a safe comfortable place.  Hogan will be at our emergency vet for a few more days and then really needs to move to a foster home.  Because of the size of the incision, we can’t put him in boarding and jeopardize him getting an infection.  We really need someone to open their home to Hogan, even if just for a few weeks until he recuperates.

Hogan is 1 year and 2 months old.  Yep, his “owners” purchased him from a breeder and so we know his exact age.  He’s now up to date on vaccinations (not due to his owners caring for him) and neutered.

To learn more about Scout’s Honor’s adoption, sponsoring and fostering procedures, please visit our site at http://www.scou.....honor.org/. As always, Scout’s Honor will cover all cost associated with fostering, and if requested, the foster can receive a tax deduction receipt for documented expenses. If you cannot foster, please considering donating towards Hogan’s surgery and care – we really were not in a position to incur more significant costs for a major surgery, but we could not turn our backs on him!

If you can help this sweet baby boy, please contact Leslie at lesliehillendahl@yahoo.com.

OMD. What a story. Can't believe his "family" would buy him from a breeder, but then abandon him.

Grrrrrr. Some people!

Found him on their site. He sure looks like a sweetie. Hope he finds a good home. (Looks like he's in TX?)

Abby: Aug 1, 2009 – Jan 10, 2012. Our beautiful rescue pup lived LARGE with osteosarcoma for 15 months – half her way-too-short life. I think our "halflistic" approach (mixing traditional meds + supplements) helped her thrive. (PM me for details. I'm happy to help.) She had lung mets for over a year. They took her from us in the end, but they cannot take her spirit! She will live forever in our hearts. She loved the beach and giving kisses and going to In-N-Out for a Flying Dutchman. Tripawds blog, and a more detailed blog here. Please also check out my novel, What the Dog Ate. Now also in paperback! Purchase it at Amazon via Tripawds and help support Tripawds!

what a handsome boy!!  the really, REALLY terrible part of the story is that these moronic humans will probably purchase many, many more dogs and continue to treat them like disposable chattel...and they will pass the mindset on to their prodigy...humans can be such a disappointing species!!

hopefully hogan will quickly find a forever home with wise parents - a life he truly deserves.

Oh what a lovely boy-- the thought of him struggling to make it "home" after getting shot and then his "family" telling the vet to put him down breaks my heart.  I lived in Houston for ten years and still think of it as home-- I hope and pray that someone will give this brave boy the life he deserves.

Scout: January 31, 2002 to November 7, 2011

Scout's diagnosis was "poorly differentiated sarcoma"; amputation 1/11/2011.  Scout enjoyed 9 fantastic years on 4 legs and 9 glorious months on 3 legs.  If love alone could have saved you…
