The Soi Dog Foundation is a fantastic group in Thailand who is saving hundreds of dogs from awful lives on the streets. They often have Tripawds available for adoption, here is the first of some that you'll be hearing more about soon:

"I am Remington. I am only 4 months old. I was born with 4 good legs but now I only have 3.

I lost my leg because someone attacked me with a lawnmower. Why would anyone do this? Why to a puppy like me?

I am recovering slowly but surely thanks to the lovely people at Soi Dog. If it weren't for them I don't know what would have become of me. I live in the puppy run but I am worried that no one will want me with my 3 legs.

I see all the other pretty puppies leaving but I can only sit and watch them leave.

I'm sure you'll be just as sickened and disgusted as I am when you click onto the link. Catching dogs and putting them in cages to be "cooked alive" is well known about Korea...Thailand, not as much. Sanctions, boycotts of products....I don't know what would work. I just wish "mainstream media" would get behind this.

When you click onto the adoptable dogs...OMD! Reminds me of the plight of Sato Charlie.

Jerry, I'm sure I misread this.....is the transportation paid for or does the adoptee have to comenup with the monies?

Also, based on your experienc and knowledge...if a dog becomes a tripawd before six months minimum are they highly prone to issues with their remaining legs, back issues, etc. I'm sure this little tripawd hasn't had any proper rehab, or core bulding, etc.

THANKS for bringing the plight of thse dogs to the forefront.......

I agree Sally, the dog meat trade is disgusting. We were very unaware of it until recently. One group we are quite fond of, the Duo Duo Animal Welfare Project, is working in China to stop it via legislation and awareness, while the Soi Dog Foundation is working to find homes for those who are rescued.

Don't know about the transportation issue but that is a great question.

All dogs are different in how being on 3 legs affects them, but from what we've been told all Tripawds will eventually experience some type of repercussions, moreso than their four-legged counterparts. The good news is that it's never too late to start rehab!

Thanks Jerry.....

I guess as far as repercussions, you give them THE best life possible...let them play full out, with at least some boundaries, spoil and love and let them be who they were born to be and, of course, staying in the present....just as you have done with Sheriff Regulator, Wildlife Specialist, Park Ranger WYATT RAY!!!!

I have emailed about trnsportation costs.....I'll let you know.......

Mucho thanko!

Sally, from what I understood after reading adoption info, the adopting family is responsible for travel costs. There is no adoption charges. Heart breaking! So glad there are a few advocates there for them. You will laugh, but I have already looked into what types of wheelchairs are sold. Just in case in the future, Daryl has problems with his remaining legs. All I can do is give him the best life possible and pray it is a long, problem free one. He is sleeping on the couch right now with the Hubby, far cry from a stray, or in a shelter. That is what I am TRYING to focus on. I feel so overprotective, so scared I will do something wrong or let him fall and he will get hurt. Hugs form, Lori Ty and the gang

TY GUY, Best Black Lab ever! Diagnosed  and had amp in January, 2014. Kicked MRSA's butt. Earned his angel wings on April 16, 2014. Run Free my boy and don't forget a shoe. Ty is a proud member of the " April Angels". Ty sent us Daryl, a Tripawd rescue in Sept. of 2016. Daryl is 5 +or -. We are also Pawrents to Chandler, a Border Collie mix who is 15 and 1/2, Lucy, a Corgi who is 7, 2 minis, 2 horses, and a feisty cat named Zoe. Zoe had a non skeletal Osteosarcoma removed in July 2015. No Chemo, she was at least 16. She is going strong although she is now completely blind. She is now close to 20 and her hobbies are eating and sleeping in front of her personal heater.

Oh yeah Lori everyone here understands the absolute sheer terror and paranoia that takes hold as we look for any hint of health problems with our dogs or cats....whether they have three paws or four!!! Is this crazy or what???

I think as time moves us away from the horrors of that piece of crap disease, we'll start staying in the moment more and just fully enjoy the bliss of their love and happiness. BUT REMEMBER...DARYL IS NOT AN AMPUTEE DUE TO A DISEASE!!!! And his body will continue to get stronger, not weaker

And hey, there's nothing wrong at all for being prepared for any future issues that may...or may NOT happend!!

I love that Daryl is sleeping on the sofa with hubby!!! I know Daryl is putting smiles on your faces...and that's making Ty so happy!!!

Shhhhhh.......shh....I went ahead and emailed about what type of logistics, sources of available funds, if any, etc. would be involved in rescuing.........just curious, that's all. winker

Sally was kind enough to ask Soi Dog about the adoption process, payment and transport for Remington, here's what they said. Please spread the word, let's find him a forever home!

"Adopting Remington to the USA is a very simple process.  There are no quarantine requirements which means they can usually leave within 3-4 weeks.  The cost to transport to the USA is a lot lower than many other countries if Remington flies accompanied.  Costs start at around $450 USD depending on the airline and where the flight departs from.  This includes sterilization, vaccinations, micro chipping, pet passport, flights and the flight crate. We have now started our flight volunteer program and it is possible we could arrange a flight volunteer to transport Remington fairly quickly.

However, if a flight volunteer is not available, then we would need to send them via cargo. The cost varies depending on the size of the dog and destination, but ranges from $800 USD up to $1200 USD. Very large dogs will be a bit more.

Soi Dog handles everything - all you need to do is collect Remington when he  arrives into the USA."

Hey Sally, there was one listed on my facebook that had 1/2 of his travel expenses donated already. Hey, maybe we can set up a little fund for that. If anyone would want to bring one home. May not be allowed ,not sure. I saw pictures last night that will haunt me for life. So sad!

Thanks Lori! Is there anyway you can post that one on here too? Maybe we can help him too!

Yeah, I know we can't do any fundrising hrough the Tripawds site itself (and understandably so). But there could be many other venues once we find his forever home. Quite frankly, it seems it would cost a whole lot more to bring the sweet boy and a human companion anyway. I just want to make sure that if the funds are sent...however that is done.....that there are no "price sticker shockers"!

I'm still communicating with them about Remington...had a few more questions about him...I'll post when I get more particulars ...er.....well....more like Jerry will jave to do the imbedding!

Thanks again Lori!

Checked about Remington...got an email back today saying he will PROBABLY be adopted out this week!! clap

Everybody keep their paws crossed for this courageous little puppy! I asked her to please tell the new human about the tripawds site so we could, not only follow his journey, but give his human access tothe valuable information needed in raising a tripawd.

Hi everyone, my name is Joelle, and I stumbled across your site tonight after I put into the google search "raising tripod puppy" . Ive been researching raising a tripod puppy because.......I am the lady trying to adopt Remington, :) and just a few hours ago completed my phone interview with Soi Dog and submitted my deposit towards his flight.

I am so excited, but also nervous...... lol, sort of like a soon to be expecting parent. I have had dogs my entire life, and recently my baby girl Chloe passed away, and while she wasn't a tripod, she had been hit by a car when she was younger, and by the time I adopted her, the Vet said it was too late to do anything about her leg, that it had already set, and to rebreak it and do the surgery required would be incredibly hard on her. She wasn't a tripod, but she never really had full use of her back legs. But I know, that because Remington (soon to be renamed Waan Jai - "Sweetheart" in Thai. I want to honor his Thai roots and all he has survived, but I also want his name to represent his new life and being loved) but I know because he is a true tripod, that there are things I need to learn to help give him the best life possible.

I will be honest, I'm excited and cry every time I think about all he has been through, but I am trying hard not to get too excited, until he actually lands and is safely home with me. You know, he is just so far away, and I'm just worried that if I get too excited, it won't happen.....so, in the meantime I have been reading everything I can about raising a tripod puppy. There's lots of info about adults, but not as much about puppies, and since his bones and body will still be growing and forming, I really want to make sure that I do right by him.

So far I know that I need to get him a ramp to help him get up into my Tahoe, the bed and couch (lol, although more than likely I will just lift him in and up) a raised food and water bowl. That I need to make sure I have rugs on the floor that have mats under them so he doesn't slip and slide.......but what else should I know or do for him?

Are there good exercises for me to do with him to help ensure he has a good core body strength and so that as he grows he won't have swelling in his other legs from the added weight to these legs? Would swimming/water be good exercise for him?

The lady from Soi Dog has also let me know, because of his already traumatic young life, and the fact that he will be traveling such a long distance to be with me, and that he is coming from a shelter, with no real training that I am going to need to take it very slow with him.....that I am really going to need to give him time..... just the fact that someone actually tried to run him over with a lawnmower, makes me just want to love him so much more and really do right by him, so any suggestions, directions, guidance or help would be really appreciated.

Oh yes, it is his back right leg that was amputated. Apparently when they ran over him it was really really bad, and cut straight through the tendon. :(

PS Are there any good vets that anyone knows in the Atlanta area that specialize in tripod dogs and any tripod groups?

Administrator: I have never posted to this group before, so I don't know how posting works, but if possible, could my email address not be shown? It would be sincerely appreciated .
