I started poking around their website and FB page (I was going to post the url to this thread so they knew Sally's call was serious), and I have some bad and good news I guess. Looks like Layla was adopted on May 31:

https://www.fac.....scueleague

Good news she found a home, bad news it wasn't with Sally!! I'm going to post a link to tripawds on the pic of the family who adopted her and maybe they'll check us out.

Also, let me throw out there that if you are looking for a Tripawd in particular, you can go to Petfinders and search under special needs dogs through your local rescues (just put in your zipcode). Sally, all of the locals are on there. RAL, BARK, RACC, etc. This is where I saw Tanner.

**There have been some issues with scams on Petfinders, so if you see a pup you are interested in, make sure its a known rescue organization in your area.

DARN!!! DARN!!! And double darn!!! I just left another message this morning and made it really strong....talked about the ramp I already have... the knowledge of what it takes to keep a tripawd strong (core miscles building, etc)...losted the supplements I would put her on and stressed over and over transport was not a problem!! Yeah...I wanted them to kow I was serious too!

ELIZABETH!! Thank you! Thank you! You are sich a KIND soul!!! A blessing to us all!! Well...I guess it's no "secret" now...I ave been looking and askig Happy Hannah to help out over here! I think she's too occupied eating ice cream and steak, and all the M&M's she wants!!! That's what I told her, when she got there she could have bags and bags full all day i stead of just a few! GEEZ...crying!!!

Regarding Petfinder....first of all, what an wonderful, wonderful stie tjat is based on sich a compassionate concept. However, as Elizabeth pointed out, it jas it's problems! I seem to be the one who jas found them!

Now, I attribute these "issues" to the "posters" and znot Petfinder.......Just a couple of scemarios I've experienced, it takes quite awhile to be contacted....you do a lot of jumping through hoops (which is mecessary..I get tjat), a d THEN you find out either.."Oh ueah, that dog has been adopted".....or....the latest after filling out all the paperwork yet again anf some phome comversations..."Oh, and by the way , he's older than we put on Petfinder...he has bad hips and is arthritic...and going blind!" (check out DOOBER (mastiff) on Petfinder Dog XL Rescue in Maryland) Not that I don't mind helping ANY dog, but this dog is still on the site as of last week with no mentionof anymof these issues!! ANYWAY, the GOOD news is he will stay with his foster for wjatever time he has!

"Similar" scenarios jave happened a few other times. And I've gone to "disability specific sites" and it seems that the o es I've encountered are very out of date....like a posting of date.....like the most current posting of a dog in 2010, etc.

ANYWAY........and I don't want to jinx anything.....I do have something in the works and I'll jist leave it at that! One way or another, I'm bringing a dog to our TRIPAWD PAWTY on JUNE 22nd!!!

Hey Jerry....glad yo did post this....look at all the LOVE, LOVE, LOVE in this community!!!!!!! Amd look at all te "transport responders.......have we got the best souls in the Universe on here or what???!!!clap

LOVE TO YOU ALL!

Sally and Happy Hannah

:-( Sorry to hear that Sally but I am sure Hannah is still looking for the perfect girl/boy to send to you! 🙂

I saw that too, Elizabeth, on Petfinders - a box for "special needs". There are a lot of Tripawds out there that need good homes. I didn't know that, though, about the info being out-dated. That makes me sad. I can see myself getting all excited about a pooch only to find out it's no longer there. I know Rescues are mostly volunteers so it's probably a lot of work to get/keep the sites up to date!

Onward and upward!

Enlarged spleen in September 2013 and had it removed and was diagnosed with Hemangiosarcoma and started chemotherapy. Became a Tripawd January 8th, 2014 and definitive Hemangiosarcoma diagnosis. Three major surgeries in 7 months and Shelby took them all like a champ only to lose her battle to cancer in her brain. Wow, when I saw adopted, I was so excited to get the caravan started, until I realized it wasn't Sally......but I agree with Elizabeth, at least she has a hopefully great home, and maybe she will become a Tripawds community fur baby. I also think Alison is exactly right about Happy Hannah sending Sally her new love of the future.......that is something I truly believe in.....

So like Alison also said, onward and upward!

Much Love,

Sally, the get together at the park sounds really fun, but unfortunately I do pet sitting and my busy summer starts the day before the Tripawds party........I also have to admit to being a bit of a party pooper emotionally right now....I was so hoping to have more time with Polly to do some of this fun stuff, and her getting her wings put an end to our earthly fun. Still trying to adjust........ sad

I don't work for a rescue, but I have friends who do and keeping info on their sites up to date seems pretty difficult especially when they have so many pups coming in and out. Even the SPCAs site (the largest and most funded shelter in our area) is never up to date. I think they need a full time person just to sit there moving dogs on/off websites. When I called the shelter after seeing Tanner on Petfinders, I could get no one on the phone and no call backs for days. My co-workers (all animal lovers) got me worked up about it. So, I drove down there in the middle of the workday and busted through the doors like GIVE ME MY DOG! lol. Then a few days later they called me and wanted me to bring him back b/c his foster family decided they wanted to adopt him after all, but thats another story...I digress..

One thing you can do is to go to the shelter, tell them what you are looking for and then leave your number (usually best if you are looking to adopt a certain breed...tho we all know tripawds are a breed of their own!). I know a couple here keep lists.

Sally, if I can assist in ANYWAY, please let me know. I have a friend who used to volunteer for RAL and now she fosters for Sanctuary Rescue. I also have some connections at the Henrico Animal Shelter.

Wow Elizabeth that's crazy about Tanner's story. Oooh I'd be a little upset. You are a rock star.

Yes, I agree, rescues are so overwhelmed that many many times great people don't get the dogs they deserve and it just stinks. I'm so sorry Sally.

So bummed Sally, that Layla got a local family so fast, but I'm sure Ms. Happy Hannah is working her magic from the bridge to find you a special doggy who will be the perfect match for you. You know I'm here to help with transport networking, or trying to find a local (in any state) to go to a shelter for you and check on a dog.

Hugs and happy thoughts for finding your next special spoiled rotten baby to be!

Deb and Angel Lexie* Diagnosed at age 13. Tried radiation first; wish we had amputated upon diagnosis (even with lung mets). Joined Club Tripawd April 2014 & Lexie loved life on 3 legs! Advice: Start physical therapy as soon as your vet clears it, especially hydrotherapy if available :-) See Lexie pics here.

Not sure how I missed this post, but here goes:

No, I do not live in Michigan!!! 🙂  I am in SC, but that means nothing in the world of animal transport since the transport relays typically cross several states to get from point A to point B!!

Yes, I am involved in transport and have contacts that can probably get a pup to you if you are on the east coast/midwest area.  The groups I'm approved to drive for usually work with rescues that have pulled a dog from a high-kill shelter and are transporting them to specific/approved rescues.  They do not typically do private adoption transports b/c they do the transport only and rely on their approved groups that they are transporting them to to find and qualify the adopter (since they focus on just physically moving the animal it is too hard to make sure the adopter isn't someone just collecting bait or research animals.)  That said, I also know several rescue groups that pull and come STRAIGHT THROUGH Virginia on their way up north, so if you can't put together a way to pick one up yourself, it could probably be worked out for the group to pull for you and then qualify you, and then put the dog on the transport to you.  Does that make sense?  :)

Anyway, I saw a dog on our local Lancaster, SC site a couple of weeks ago and immediately thought of you, Sally.  Kept my mouth shut b/c I didn't figure you were ready to look yet, and I don't know if you are open to Pits.  He is beautiful:

Image Enlarger

Here's the link telling about him:  https://www.fac.....38;theater

Just FYI, when I went back to facebook to copy the link and then came back here to tripawds to paste it, Miss Hannah was on the banner smiling at me...  True story, I swear.

Zeus was a Husky mix diagnosed with Osteosarcoma at age 11.  A visible lung met and suspicious spot on his liver meant a poor prognosis-six weeks was our vet's best guess. We decided to fight for our boy and his right front leg was amputated on 12/1/11. We did six rounds of chemo, changed his diet and spoiled him completely rotten. We were blessed with 10 great months after diagnosis. Against the odds, the lung met remained a single met and grew very little over those months. A wonderful furbaby with the most gentle spirit, he fought with a strength that we never imagined he possessed. We have no regrets...

LISA!!! Got your pm an hour ago and, for whatever reason could not get onto the forum page until jjst now!! CRAZY

Tha ks for thinking of amd AND for all the over the top efferts yo are makig n behalf of the animals...and this beauty!!

Talk about javing tjree strikes against him.....in the eyes of "the others" who aren't memebers of Tripawds.com........amputee.....pit bull...shelter dog...black (supposedly black dogs are hard ro find homes for....shhh...don't tell that ro my adoptees, one who was black)..-.think I jist named FOUR!

ANYWAY....I would definitely be ingerested!!! I DO have so ething in the works that has been off andon a "sure thing" the past week or so...now, supposedly it's back onmthe "sure thing" side again. That doesn't mean I'm not open to TWO dogs to snuggle, love and share ice cream and watermelon!

Now, let me ask you this.....and this is HUGE!!! I would pm you on this but afraid I won't be avle to access the pm again after all my troubles this pm. Okay....back to HUGE!!! Would you be able to arrange for me to talk DIRECTLY t woever has been fostering?
I'm jist a little bummed the time it takes to actualy get direct communication (phone time), nl to find out that te way the dog is represented is ot the way the dog is....and I mean on big issues...not just little things that jist go along with beng a shelter dog..

Being a pittie doesn't bother me at all!! He's a tripawd hero for pete's sake!! Getting along with dogs is HUGE!! S far as anyone kows, no history of bad behavior...so want to know real reason he was surrendered, tc. I jave no kids bt the woman who stahs at the house if I ever go away (scuba YAAAY once in a blue moon) and she has a five yr. old. AND, her grandmother has two pitties who ador her!!

Okay, I've rambled too much! You did me tion you were about twenty mintes away from where they are showing the dog today...-.IF......IF.....AND ONLY IF....--.you are i that vicinity if you could stop by and see him that would be extra bons!,

Darn thingis freezing up again!!! I'l try and stay on here for ait it...have to go to work shortly....-LOVE TO YOU!! THANK YOU

Sally,

Sorry, it just occurred to me that you may not be on Facebook to be able to see the description that was listed with the photo:

"Polo Blue, 14 month old pure blue Pit as sweet a dog as you will ever come across. He is truly a gentle giant is socialized to other dogs, cats, kittens and puppies and adores children. Can be a bit of a couch potato but ask him to play or walk or hike and he is your guy. Great disposition makes him ideal for a therapy dog. Lost his rear leg due to being hit by a car but it has not slowed him down . Neutered, micro chipped and up to date on all vaccines he is ready for you."

Not sure what time the adoption event was today, but I'll try to find out and see if we can get there before they leave.

The rescue group is HSLSC Humane Society of Lancaster, SC.  Their phone is (803) 285-5683 and website is:
