Red flags are disappearing again

Hi Jim,

I hate to bring this up… but the red flags seem to disappear before I read a thread in a topic.  It's been doing it for awhile, not sure if it's been since the upgrade.

I cleared cache too- that didn't help.  It seemed to always happen when I had two browser windows open, but tonight it did it with only one browser window open (firefox).

It happens when I spend some time posting in a thread.  When I go back to the main forum page all the red flags are gone.

So, is it or is it not happening since the upgrade? The behavior you describe would be expected with multiple browsers open, or when checking the site from different computers throughout the day. Regardless, e apologize for the convenience.

Please let us know what settings you have in your Dashboard -> Tripawds Admin tab for viewing unread topics.

Can any other moderators confirm this issue? We are still unable to replicate it.

Thanks for your patience.

I didn't report it before because it seemed to happen with two browser windows open, and you had told me before that could cause it.  So I was surprised last night when it happened with only one browser window open.  And since it was Sunday night I know I had not been on Tripawds on my work computer since last Thursday.

I apologize for not remembering if it happened right after the upgrade- I know I drive you crazy with my lack of technical skills.  But in my defense (this time anyway) the upgrade happened in my, umm, vicodin fueled, surgery recovery days so I'm not sure I was all that clear headed way-confused.

My Admin settings are:

Display the Admin Bar  Yes

Display Admin Bar Fixed at Top (if shown)  No

Receive Email Notification on new Topic/Post  No

Display Unread Posts on Front Page (displays admin new posts queue if enabled and not using admin bar, otherwise latest posts) Yes

I always have them set this way.

I will have to pay closer attention, but yes, I think mine do that also.  Will test it for you this evening.

My red flags are disappearing.  It happens when I've been logged on for a while.  All of a sudden it is like it marks everything read – flags disappear and the New/Recently updated topic drop-down topics all turn black.

For the record, we have not forgotten about this issue. We are just still unable to replicate it, and the forum plugin developers are even stumped. Along with the upcoming release of Wordpress 3.1, we will be installing a new version of the forums and will revisit this then. Thank you for your patience.

Are you guys on IE 8 and/or Windows 7?  If so, have you tested the "Compatibity View"?  (it's that broken page looking icon on the top by the browser – click it on and off)

I keep seeing some jsquery errors since I have the error report turned on.  But I didn't want to make admin's head explode.  I can live with it.  It is usually just broken avatar links that come and go. I;m guessing this is a IE8 and Windows 7 thing.

Hmmm… it's likely Exploder indeed. Though Safari tends to have trouble digesting many sites too. thanks for the tip regarding compatibility view, though that mostly addresses display issues. There seems to be something mucking up db records in this case.

I use Firefox almost exclusively.  IE 7 at work, but I don't think it happens to me there.

Hmmm… so, you too check the forums from multiple computers?

Ge'lena, do your flags mysteriously dissappear too? And if so, do you check from more than one machine?

I use firefox at work and home, so I do check from multiple locations.

But- as I said in my post above, #3, that it happened on a Sun night when I had not been on my work computer since the previous Thurs.

In the past I have noticed the problem at both work and home- but then I usually have been on line from both locations in the same day.

And I have two computers at home- but probably the same address- would
that matter?  Actually I've only had the second computer on line since
January, and I am only using one currently.

The red flags are always there when I first log on- they disappear when I spend time writing a reply in a topic.  When I go back to the main forum page they are gone.  If it was an issue of two different computers wouldn't the flags be gone the first time you log on on the second computer?

And since G brought it up, I have noticed a lot of avatar links broken, but its random.  Doesn't always happen, not all are broken at once, and they are different ones- so I could never say that one person's avatar link was broken.

We too have noticed random missing avatars, totally unrelated. And we really do believe the red flags go missing, just having a hard time figgerin' out how, when or why.

Thinkin' of turning the page view back on for displaying recent unread topics to see if that works now that we seem to have addresses our, ahem, performance issues.
