We just wrote in detail about how to add widgets to blog sidebars in the Behind The Scenes blog. We used the following example of how to add the 2010 Tripawds Community Campaign ChipIn widget…

How To Add Chip In Widget to Blog Sidebar

  1. Copy the ChipIn embed code by clicking the “copy” link in the widget above.
  2. Visit your blog Dashboard -> Appearance -> Widgets tab.
  3. Expand the sidebar where you want to add the widget (If it is not already visible).
  4. Drag the Text widget to the desired location of your sidebar. (A dotted line will represent where it will appear.)
  5. Release the widget and an expanded field will appear.
  6. Add a title to your new widget. (i.e.; Help Support Tripawds!)
  7. Paste the entire ChipIn code you copied into the content area of the new widget.
  8. Click Save, and view your blog to see the changes.

Follow these same instructions for adding any custom "text" widget to your Tripawds blog. Please reply with any questions, or for information about other widgets available including your blog avatar, post archives, links, categories, tag cloud, RSS feeds and more!

Not working for me-

I get the text box in the sidebar, I paste what I copied, and when I hit save the pasted link disappears.  The title stays however…

laughing Perhaps I should try that!

But seriously, if anyone wants us to add the campaign widget to their blog, we can do that for you.

You people so funny. laughing

You got that Admin guy thinking maybe the whole embed code and allowScriptAccess mumbo jumbo might only be added to a widget by uhh… well, an admin! But I just added the widget to the Tripawds Test Blog, and I am not a Doctor.

Not sure what was going on, but we always happy to help. Widgets have been updated on Gayle's and Maggie's blogs. If anyone else has trouble, just add the widget where you want it and we'll update it with the embed code.

Thank you all for your continued support!

PS: Just want to make sure you're clicking the "copy" button in the widget above to show the <embed> code, and then clicking the second copy button, to actually copy the code.

OK Jim,

I just went to my blog to look at what you embeded in the text box.  It looked just like what I tried to do last night.  I clicked the save button, and now the campaign widget is not showing in my blog.

Sorry- now you have to fix it again…

I too have been having issues with the disappearing coding whenever i save it in my text widget "Help Support the Tripawds Website". If you could put it there that would be great! I have sent a link to my blog to family and friends so they become more aware of tripawd dogs.   I would like the widget there in case they would like to donate to such a great cause! Right now I am a poor grad student with 0 income, but someday when I have a job I will enjoy giving back to such a great support site!! Thanks!

Done, not sure why you were unable to save the widget. It may only be allowed by Admins. If anyone else has trouble, just let us know and we'll add the widget for you.

Thank you for your support!

I didn't want to ask for help but that's enough attempts for one night! I copy, paste and the code looks correct to only disappear once I hit the saved button.  So at the risk of totally losing it I'm once again pleading for Jim the Admin dude to save me before it's to late and I lose what sanity I have left……………yell Please help me Jim!
