Hey all, my Dad is doing a tremendous amount of work on the back end of the site lately. We hear that a few of you are having some "Error on Page" issues when attempting to load this site.

Please accept our apologies, and our sincere thanks for your determination to keep trying to log-on. Dad's looking into this matter, but it would really help if you tell us:

  • What Operating System are you using?
  • What browser?
  • When do you get the error? Every time you log-on, or once and a while?
  • What page does it do it on? Every one? Just one in particular? If so, which one.
  • What exactly does the error say?
  • What resolves the error?

Thanks for helping to diagnose this.

Please copy and paste any errors you get here. Or email them to us if you're having trouble in the forums. The more detail you include, the better we can help to identify and address the issue.

Also, since we have recently migrated the core software behind this site, please try the following and let us know if it helps.

  1. Clear your browser cache. (In Firefox: Tools-> Clear Private Data -> Check Browser Cache only)
  2. Clear any browser cookies form tripawds.com (In Firefox: Preferences -> Privacy -> Show Cookies -> Delete all tripawds.com cookies only)
  3. Ensure Javascript and Java are both enabled
  4. Relaunch browser and log in.

Also note that the Netscape/AOL browser will have issues and is no longer supported by this nor the vast majority of web sites. We appologize for any inconvenience and thank you for your continued patience and support.

So far we seem to have isolated this issue to Internet Explorer on Windows Vista. No errors seem to be getting generated in Firefox on Vista. Please report here with your operating system and broswer if errors persist. In the meantime, please try Firefox.

We are working to resolve this issue ASAP and apologize for the inconvenience.

Also, anybody who is getting an error – please check that your firewall isn't blocking the site.  I have been to many sites where I have to either add the site to my safe list or turn off the firewall completely while I'm in that site.   Firewalls these days are extremely aggressive and vista's legacy firewall is no exception to this.

Hopefully this will help some folks.

Oh thank you Connie, wonderful advice!

Also wanted to add that some people have received warnings from Explorer that claim Tripawds is a malicious site, of which we most definitely are not. It's just that the back-end of the site has many scripts running, which Explorer very mistakenly interprets as malware. To stop receiving this warning, just add us as an approved site.

The problem is not limited to Vista or the version of Internet Explorer. I have three machines that were (as of this morning) running identically - Windows XP and Internet Explorer 7. After selecting (clicking), the page would begin to download and then abruptly stop with an error message that said (and I paraphrase) "Internet Explorer could not access http://tripawds.....com/forums....... Sometimes I could get by this error by reloading and then other times I was never able to load the page (after more than an hour in one case). Oddly, I tried using my backup laptop computer and did not get the error during the single session. Thinking that my operating system had been corrupted during a security update, I restored the operating system disk to April's state when I know that all was well. Nothing changed and the error messages continued.

I installed Internet Explorer 8 (which I do not like) this morning in hopes that this would fix the problem. The first time through, the results were nearly the same - only the error message and error message page changed but not the results. However, from that point on, I no longer get the error message, but I also do not get a proper page. Sometimes I will get the initial forum posting but not any additional postings. Sometimes I get a subset of the posting, i.e. the first two or three in addition to the initial posting. Most of the time, I finally do get the full page including the ability to post a reply but only after numerous attempt. For example, to get to this page where I can post my reply, I had to reload this page eleven times (and this was relatively few compared to other pages.)

I really hope that you will be able to fix this problem which I suspect is a result of "streamlining" the individual pages and delivery system. An hour a page is just too much time to spend download the single page forums so that I can intelegency add to the discussion, and as far as forums that have reached multiple pages - forget it!!!

First, it took more than a dozen re-load before I could see that my previous post was actually entered. However, I could never get the edit function to work so that I could add this simple fact to that posting - even after twenty attempts. (Yes I counted)

PS: Cherry would rather I be spending time with her than playing on this machine and site. She does not know that this is not FUN!!!!

Bob, you're right, it's not limited to Vista, it's an IE thing that we are frantically working on trying to fix.

If you feel inclined at some poing, please try Firefox and let us know if the problem persists. Thanks so much.

I know that you do not support AOL and while I prefer to use my broadband connection without AOL getting in the way, my most reliable way to access the site is to go through AOL. Internet Explorer 8 just was not allowing me into the sites. While I did get on without any error message, I actually saw the entire page approximately 5% of the time and had to keep reloading until I saw the entire page. Going back to Internet Explorer 7 did not help. However, going through AOL has proved productive. I get just one error message (shown in the image below) and when I select not to debug, the page is displayed completely. The error message is the same, including the line reference, regardless of the page I am displaying. Hope this helps.

Thanks Bob, you've helped us identify that Internet Explorer has trouble rendering nested objects. Glad to hear AOL helps. We just need to isolate the offensive code but are currently in the middle of a cross country move back to our new home in colorado. Thank you for your patience.

OK. I think we may have resolved the Internet Exploder error for the forums. After fixing some code we cannot replicate the error any longer in IE 8 here on our test machines. If someone could please confirm this by browsing the forums using Explorer, and letting us know of any continued "Error on Page" here, we would be most appreciative. Thanks for you help and continued patience.

Please note that the error may still persist on certain other pages of trhe blog, and that we are frantically trying to fix those too!

During this morning’s session, I was getting the usual errors but have not gotten error messages during this session. Assuming that what ever caused this problem, THANKS FOR FIXING. (That assumes that it has been fixed, but with your expert knowledge and my optimism, that is an asumption I will gladly make.)

Thanks again, Bob & Cherry
