Let's say you have a user name like "monkeybutt". But your mom would never let you say "butt", so you want to make it nicer. You can change it to monkeybutt-bunny with no problem! Monkeybutt-bunny is allowed through the censorship of moms if you say it fast! (they think you are saying monkeybun-bunny when you say it fast!)
All you have to do is click on the profile button on the top: You'll see your Login name (which will never change) but under that you see "Display Name". The display name is what will be displayed! You can change it to whatever you want! (just don't use an apostrophe – it mucks it up.) And you can keep changing it depending on your mood.
If you want some added text to your display avatar – use the "Location" section and type something short.
"Monkeybunnies Rock!"
Just remember, you still have to login into the site using your original name!

Thanks for sharing this helpful tip! Did you know the term Display Name is also known as the nicename?
By visiting their profile page, users can also add lots of information about themselves and their pups or include a brief signature to appear beneath all their posts.
And to clarify, cometdog refers to your Forums profile here. To change a user's nicename site-wide – for comments on blogs, etc. – and to upload an avatar (changing it as often as you like), visit your Tripawds User profile page. You will find a link atop your Forums profile page.

Hmmm… what exactly isn't "taking"? Updating the Forums Profile page requires Java, but not Flash.
If anyone cares to donate an iPad to Tripawds we'll gladly test these things!

I went to the profile page and typed in my new display name, but when I hit the "update profile" button, nothing happened. Tried a couple of times, but nada…
I'm assuming it's the iPad and not "operator error." But it could be me. :)

Hmmm… unless someone can confirm otherwise, it may indeed be the iPad OS.
You can also try changing your display name from your Tripawds User profile in your blog Dashboard -> Users -> Your Profile. (Required to change display name on blog comments.) Then try checking the box in your Forums Profile to keep WP username in Sync under Personal options and click Update to see if that saves.
