OfflineI am not sure it this is the right place to put this, since I am not only directing this question to Admin, but also to various pawrents who have done this. I've seen a number of Tripawd slideshows on here, set to music, Cherry's is the one I am thinking of most recently, but I know there have been some of many but i can't think who. How do you create these? How do you set the music to specific pictures? I want to do one of Nova, but I've never really done that before. I'm sure it is probably something really easy, but I can't figure it out. Any advice? I don't really need to incorporate videos, although it would be nice to know how, in case I change my mind.

We may need help from others answering this one indeed. Personally, we use iMovie for Mac OS to create all of Jerrys movies. A separate audio track enables us to position photos on the timeline where desired. Windows Movie Maker should provide similar functionality.
We have seen some beautiful SmileBox slideshows and have heard that Smilebox makes creating slideshows and DVD tributes fun and easy. Hopefully others will provide their their own movie making tips and tricks. Thanks for asking!

OfflineYou're right it is easy with the right program. I use a program called Muvee http://www.muvee.com/en/ It looks like you can get a 15 day free trial.
I haven't tried any other programs but I really, really like muvee because you can very creative with fade ins and fade outs. Plus, it's easy to use.
If you want an example, here's a real tear jerker I did when my brother died. It took me awhile because I would cry too much trying to do it. But the program was easy and it was my time doing it.

OfflineIf you have Windows, you can use Windows Movie Maker. Look for it in your programs. :) I've been working on one for Raven when I'm up to it.

OfflineOh geeze…. I HAVE Muvee Reveal and didn't even realize it! I got a 2 Terabyte external hard drive for Christmas (gotta have a place for all those pictures of Nova, you know) and it was bundled along with it.
So here I go to work on some videos/slideshows of Nova!
Thanks for all the input.

Being the dinosaur that I am with my Windows XP Pro machines, I used some of the programs within Roxio Easy Media Creator to make Miss Cherry's Short Photo Tribute. I use this suite of programs almost daily for a variety of functions including the latest where I burned five CD’s of 101 Love Songs for Valentine’s Day. It is extremely easy to use and provides a full set of photo and music editing applications. It will also burn CD’s, DVD’s and the latest supports Blue Ray Discs.
I just tried Muvee Reveal to see if this software gave me greater capabilities. It is much newer (nearly five years newer) and since it is focused on this project, it should provide more capabilities and greater flexibility. Its cost is equivalent to the Roxio Suite.
I am NOT impressed. I found adding photos to be much more difficult and instead of adding additional photos to the end of the current list, it dispersed them throughout the existing photos. It wanted me to double my number of photos for Miss Cherry’s Short Photo Tribute. I am sorry, but I do not like having only 2.5 seconds to actually view the photos. On more than half of the photos, it cropped significant sections of the photo. I did not like watching Miss Cherry without her top knot or other significant portions of the photo missing. For example, on a photo that showed Miss Cherry and I walking up the beach to the Coquille River Lighthouse in Oregon, it cropped Miss Cherry and I from the picture. It did the same for one with Emily on the beach with Allie and Cherry at Cape Lookout in Oregon. Somehow a photo tribute without the girls just does not make it.
Outside of these picky issues, it may be the best thing since sliced bread.

OfflineBob,
I still shed a tear for the loss of my Windows XP. The Computer Crash of January 1, 2010 made me have to go get Windows 7. Muvee was installed on my old computer and it was probably 5 years old, too. I believe I upgraded to a newer version because of the limitations you spoke of. I haven't even put it on the new computer yet.
Here's a fancy one I did a couple of years back. I did it on the fly, so I didn't spend any time getting video shots worked out.

Sue,
First, there was a review in my latest PC World regarding Muvee Reveal. It was very positive and one can view an online verion of that article with this LINK.
In addition to the Roxio Creator, Nero also sells a suite that includes audio, video, and photo programs. Hopefully this has helped. As for me, I spent the entire day trying to understand how these programs would do the job and if they would make better photo tributes. This meant that I spent the entire day looking through tears at Miss Cherry's photos. I need to finish my DVD disk with both the "Short" and "Full" version of her photo tributes. Being able to put both onto a DVD is another reason why I tent toward the disc burning software.

Yeah, that's the sucky part of doing memorials.

OfflineI found making Jerry's tribute video one year after his passing to be quite therapeutic … bittersweet tears indeed. I just couldn't bring myself to do it for so long, but was certainly happy with the results when I finally did.
The Nero software package includes great tools for backup, archiving and burning CDs/DVDs too. And here's a sweet deal for saving $20!

I am very sorry if I gave the impression that viewing Miss Cherry's photos is anything but a labor of love. It was more than a decade after I lost "The Girls" before I tackled this task for them. However, all of their photos had to be scanned prior to the tribute and while half of Cherry's are scanned, that task was done years ago. I will always view Cherry's photos with tears. When I finish the full tribute, there will always be songs that bring me to tears – You Are So Beautiful – Joe Cocker, Endless Love – Diana Ross & Lionel Richie, Unchained Melody – The Rightous Brothers, Because You Loved Me – Celine Dion, Hero – Mariah Carey, Have I Told You Lately That I Love You – Rod Stewart, and the two used in her "Short" Tribute which again will be the beginning and end of the soundtrack, Bookends and For Emily, Whenever I May Find Her – both by Simon and Garfunkel. By now you get the idea of the story of what Cherry and I shared. How can this be anything but a labor of love and great therapy? I just need to make sure that Hero starts at the time of her diagnosis for "a hero lies within you (Cherry)".
Love may hurt at times – but isn't this why we make these kind of commitments to our companions.

A suggestion for anyone looking for more features,
The price for the Nero 9 Reload is excellent even without the backup software that is included. The link for Roxio Creator 2010 however, diverts me to a site selling the package in Pound Sterling? With todays rate, that is not such a good buy. However, Amazon.Com has the Roxio Creator 2010 Pro for $79.99 and that includes Blue Ray support. It also allows you to burn HD onto a DVD that can be played on a Blue Ray Player. This is always one of the things that bothers me regarding burning these slide shows onto a DVD, normally one only gets standard def TV. Why take photos in 2M pixel or more resolution when you can only show them in standard def DVD's? Hope this helps!
I have stuck with Roxio because it is what I know inspite of the fact that over the years both Nero and Roxio have had excellent reviews and they are very hard to say that one is consistently superior.

Thanks for pointing that out Bob, and for providing the Amazon link. Roxio is based in the UK. For anyone shopping across the pond, here is a site-wide 15% off coupon for roxio.com.
We'll see if we can't find a coupon for Roxio Creator available from buy.com…
