Many of us joined this community because we’ve been affected by canine cancer. It’s an awful disease, and we all want it stopped. One easy way we can make a difference is by walking, virtually or in pawson, at the Morris animal Foundation's K9 Cancer Walk in Estes Park, Colorado.

Why We Believe in Morris

Join us in Estes Park Colorado on Saturday, August 21st for a beautiful day in the park. There will be lots of dogs, playtime, speakers, goodies, music, contests and more!

Sign Up Today! Join Team Tripawds Here

Twice a year we participate in this event, held in Sacramento in spring, and Estes Park, Colorado in summer.

We really believe in the Morris Animal Foundation. They're the oldest and most respected organization on the planet that is helping to end canine cancer.

Morris Animal Foundation launched the Canine Cancer Campaign to help scientists worldwide prevent, treat and, ultimately, cure cancer in dogs. The K9 Cancer Walk program helps fund research that will develop prevention strategies, test new treatments, establish tools for cancer researchers and train new scientists specializing in cancer research.

Let's Do it Again!

In Spring, our West Coast Team Tripawds members walked in Sacramento at the Morris K9 Cancer Walk (photo above). That walked raised over $61,000! We hope this event is even more successful.

Please join us on August 21st in Estes Park, in your hometown, or in your PJs at home! If you can't be wish us in pawson, remember, you can walk "virtually" and be on our team too. Just sign up here to join, it's just $30 per adult.

Or how about hosting a Tripawd Pawty in your hometown on the same day, and walk virtually with us in Colorado? Imagine, Tripawds all around the country, walking in spirit, together, to help end canine cancer.

This is from our 26 April, 2010 reply.

Whenever one decides to support a charity, no matter how lofty the sound of the name of the charity, we like to do our homework to determine how good that charity is do at fufilling the stated goals. Far too often, a charity is great at padding the salaries of the directors while neglecting the purpose of the charity. With that critical measure in hand, Emily decided to measure the Morris Annimal Foundation using Charity Navigator Ratings, which is "America's Largest Charity Evaluator". They measure exactly what percentage of the charity's funds are going to Fund Raising, Administrative Costs, and to Program Expenses (the stated purpose of the charity.)

It give us great please to state clearly that the "Morris Annimal Foundation" has a four star rating – the highest achievable. 78.2% of funds go to Program Expenses, 13.5% go to Fund Raising, and a mere 8.1% go to Adminstrative Expenses. This is the best of all the charities doing similar type of work, it was the highest rated of all charities doing similar work, and exceeds nearly every other charity that Emily and I support. This is definately a charity that one can be very proud to support with the full knowledge that your support is going where you would expect/hope.

We just wanted each and everyone to understand the quality of this charity. In addition to the August 21 walk in Colorado, there is also a planned October 10 walk planned in Los Gatos, California. (Close to San Jose for those not familiar with California.)

Many thanks to Spirit Peyton's pack, Kris, Cami, Dillon and Rhys for signing on to join us at the Morris walk in Estes park.

Wyatt Ray says he can't WAIT to walk with little brother Rhys.

We hope to see many more folks signing up, either for Estes Park or Los Gatos, CA in October.

Both events are so much fun, and such a great cause! See you there!

Well everypawdy, the Morris Walk raised $40,000 last weekend in Estes Park, Colorado!

Some of you already know that my pawrents couldn't be there. They woke up early Saturday morning to make the two and a half hour trip to Estes Park, but their truck wouldn't start. Not even a jump from a neighbor's car would get it going. They were (and are) soooooo bummed and upset they weren't there. Even Wyatt Ray was disappointed that he didn't get to walk with Rhys.

But our team was there and that's all that mattered. Team Tripawds included Casey Gardner, Mom of Tripawd Annie; Kami and Kris, pawrents of Spirit Peyton, Dillon and Rhys; and Kim and Tim, pawrents of Spirit Tika, Caya and puppy Sitka.

Thank you everypawdy for being so supportive and excited about this event. Check out this great article about the walk, by USA Today reporter Sharon Peters, who has previously written about Tripawds.

Hello everybody:

I just wanted to add that, not only was it an important event, we all had a great time, and it was great to meet our team (some to be reacquainted with).

We hope to go back next year, and I would like to be a cheerleader to see if anybody could join up. I wish I had more pictures, but my portable went dead after taking pics of the team. (Uh, no comments on checking if the batteries are charged, got enough of that already)

So Jerry:  A twofer next year?  Tripawds reunion and the Walk?  Sitka wants to compare notes with Wyatt on proper ways to great people with grabbing their hands with their mouth.

Thanks for letting us join in the team!

Kim, Tim, Caya and not-so-baby Sitka.

This just in, from the fine folks at the Morris Animal Foundation… Many thanks to all who participated!

Thank you for participating in the 2nd annual K9 Cancer Walk in Estes Park, Colorado, on August 21, 2010. Morris Animal Foundation launched the K9 Cancer Walk program as a way to raise funds for its global Canine Cancer Campaign, which funds prevention and treatment research to help dogs enjoy longer, healthier, cancer-free lives.

The Canine Cancer Campaign has four goals:

  • Provide new treatments for dogs currently suffering from the disease
  • Provide scientists with a high-quality tumor tissue bank for further research
  • Provide strategies to prevent the disease
  • Train new researchers who will work to find preventions, treatments and the ultimate cures

With the help of our volunteers, sponsors, vendors and nearly 400 participants, we raised over $42,000 to fund canine cancer research. We couldn’t have done it without your support!

Your feedback is necessary so we can continue to provide a quality event. Please take a few moments to fill out this survey.

For more information on the campaign, visit us at http://www.Cure…..Cancer.org. The K9 Cancer Walks are all about Best Friends Helping Best Friends— thank you for helping your best friend!
