I'm new here and I hope this is where I am supposed to be posting... we just found out last week that our beloved lab, Kayley, has cancer.  She's 13 and it's so advanced, and has spread to various organs, the vet doesn't want to put us though more testing.  So, she gave us some steroids to make our puppers "more comfortable" and gave us 3 months...at the most.  We are devastated.  crying

Today, K-dawg fell outside and I had a difficult time helping her back up.  She's been falling a lot lately.  Then there's the not eating.  I hand feed her every meal so she doesn't starve, but is it enough?  My heart is breaking.  I don't see the meds doing anything but making her pee all of the time.  I'm afraid to leave the house because I don't want her to fall or not be able to go potty.....  I don't know what to do.  I feel awful.  She just looks so sad and so helpless......

Hey there I'm so sorry about Kayley. A couple of questions:  What kind of cancer? Have you seen an oncologist?

I'm on my phone and wanted to get your first post approved so others can see it. Back in a bit when I am at my desk...

Hi Kayley and family,

We are really sorry you find yourself here and Kayley's cancer is so advanced.

I don't know if it would be of help but have you investigated acunpuncture and massages ?

There are options under palliative care maybe some of them can help your baby feeling more comfortable and happy.

Sending you a huge hug and cuddles to your sweetie 💗💕🐶

Eurydice 77kg/170lb Great Dane limping end of April 2016, amputation (right front leg/osteosarcoma) 4 May 2016 6 courses of carboplatin followed by metronomic therapy, lung mets found 30 Nov 2016. 3 courses of doxorubicin, PET scan 26 Jan 2017 showed more mets so stopped chemo. Holistic route April 2017. Lung X-ray 5 May 2017 showed several tennis ball size mets, started cortisone and diuretics. Miss Cow earned her XXL silver wings 12 June 2017, 13 months and 1 week after amputation and 6 1/2 months after lung mets, she was the goofiest dawg ever and is now happily flying from cloud to cloud woof woofing away :-)

Oh wow... I'm so sorry to hear about her cancer and it being so advanced. What has your doctor recommended for her? And what kind of cancer? The cancer diagnosis is always a shock but to hear advanced is an even bigger shock.

I know Kayley knows she is deeply loved by you and that is the best I can offer right now as I am not a vet... but know that loving her will help you both!

XO

Our story: Broke rear leg in June 2013 - non-conclusive results for cancer so leg was plated and pinned. Enlarged spleen in September 2013 and had it removed and was diagnosed with Hemangiosarcoma and started chemotherapy. Became a Tripawd January 8th, 2014 and definitive Hemangiosarcoma diagnosis. Three major surgeries in 7 months and Shelby took them all like a champ only to lose her battle to cancer in her brain. We had 8 amazing extra months together and no regrets. #shelbystrong #loveofmylife

Clearly your precious Kaylee is a very @oved and adored pupper!!!! To be a 13 yr young senior, for a Lab, is quite remarkable!

Has your vet recommended an appetite stimulant....or maybe even a dose of fluids to perk her up.?

If you have hardwood floors, maybe some rubber booties or non slip rugs woukd help with traction .

Treasure every sacred moment and continue to spoil, spoil, spoil! Give her anything she will eat...ice cream...cheese pizza...scrambled eggs and bacon. Make every day Kaylee Day!

We are here for you and with you, okay? You are not alone.

Hugs, lots of hugs

Sally and Alumni Happy Hannah and Merry Myrtle and Frankie too!

Happy Hannah had a glorious additional bonus time of over one yr & two months after amp for osteo! She made me laugh everyday! Joined April's Angels after send off meal of steak, ice cream, M&Ms & deer poop!
