<3 thanks for the smiles my friends. Went to her friends house over the weekend - the stairs are very steep and we fell a few times! Also had to wear our bootie the whole time - the floors are hard wood, had a few wipeouts. But - still ourselves and recovering with some long restful naps.

In other news, it's darn hot in colorado today.

Ohhh Athla! I'll bet you took those spills in stride didn't you? It's always a challenge visiting places without traction . So smart of your humans to take your boot along with ya!

It's hot where you are? Dang, we're in Lake City Colorado and it's freezing here! Come visit, you'll love it!

Hoppy fourth to you too sweetie. Keep cool.

Sweeeet picture! Athia is one "cool" doggy, that's for sure!

Glad the "spills" didn't amount to anything. Athia probably recovery quicker than you did! Gasp!

Keep on keepin' on sweet girl! 🙂

Hey everyone. Happy ... already August, jeeze.

Well - Athla has been doing very well. One week from today we'll be getting radiology done to see if there are any tumors in her lungs, but the vet is hopeful she might be clear! She handles the chemo beautifully - no odor, no lethargy, no sickness 🙂 At this time she's in clinical remission.

Following her IV chemo rounds, we're looking into Metronomic (oral) chemo - her oncologist says its pretty low risk and can help prolong their lives. Athla is still taking 120-150ish mg of artemesinin a day, with boosters of vitamine E and C in the morning.

In crazy news, I have quit my corporate job (tomorrow is my last day! oh-my) to spend time with her. I know she's not near the end, but I really hunkered down and thought about what I want in life - and I hate to say this but Athla's diagnosis of osteoscaroma has really been one of the most motivation things to ever happen to me. It's forced me to want to not hide from things that scare me anymore, go to therapy, really confront anxiety head on, and it has exponentially increased my appreciation for the here, and the now.

So, I leave a pretty toxic work environment and I'm going to spend time with her, make it good - walks and hikes and camping, while I work on freelance and my projects I've pushed to the side for years.

No idea what the next six months will bring, but I feel really good about these decisions right now.

PS - we've mastered the stairs, and sleeping in the big bed again is SO GOOD, she says.

That picture is priceless!  And congrats on your big decisions too!

Otis - 106 pound lab/Dane mix, lost his right front leg to osteosarcoma on Febuary 9, 2016.  Four rounds of carboplatin completed in April, 2016.  Lung mets August 25, 2016.  Said goodbye too soon on September 4, 2016.   Lost his adopted sister, Tess, suddenly on October 9, 2016. likely due to hemangiosarcoma.

Wherever they are, they are together.

Bravo! Every Athla update is so inspawrational, thank you for including us in your journey.

That's very cool about your decision to move on from your job. Bravo for being so brave! We also experienced many similar revelations when Jerry was diagnosed. If it wasn't for his cancer, Tripawds wouldn't exist. It's so hard to imagine at the time you're going through it that cancer can have blessings, but it really does if you're open to them. I'm so glad to know that Athla's diagnosis has transformed your world too. Keep us posted!

Love this update - what great news for Athla and for you!  You are so courageous to strike out on a new path!

We are doing Metronomic chemo and so far so good.  Piroxicam was not good for Pofi as the anti-inflammatory part of the equation, so we are using Rimadyl.  He is taking Cytoxan 4 days a week and Palladia 3 x a week.  Just had an excellent CT scan last Monday.

Lisa, Minneapolis

On October 27, 2016, nearly 6 months after amputation, and 18 months since his cancer likely started, we lost Pofi to a recurrence of Soft Tissue Sarcoma in his spine quite suddenly.  His canine sister also succumbed to cancer on March 1, 2019 - we lavished her with our love in the interim, but life was never quite the same without her only real canine friend. Cliff kitty had to leave us, too, suddenly, in August 2019. Lucia kitty grieved all these losses, but helped us welcome two new Lurchers into our home and our lives, Shae and Barley.

MY FRIENDS!!!

We had our xrays today.

WE ARE CLEAR AND TUMOR FREE IN THE CHEST.

I don't know how to act or feel - I spent so long thinking about this moment, and here it is.

And it's... it's good.

Thank you so much for your words and kindess and love for her.
