I'm so very sorry, Laura. She was just such a fabulous, gorgeous girl (I think we all fell in love, from that very first photograph) and your relationship was clearly so full of love and joy in each other.

Run free beautiful Athla!

Sending love and hugs,

I'm running out of words to say...

Your girl was dealt a crappy hand, you did your best for her.  I'm sure she is a huge hit at the Bridge, her happy smile and goofy personality will make every pup love her.

When we free our pups from their struggle ours begin. I hope the memories of better times bring some comfort as you face the coming days and weeks.

She will live forever in your heart and so will be forever by you side.

thank you so much.

We're headed up to the cabin we rented for her - I hope I can manage it - our first without her in ... my whole life, really.

But I wanted to share her life with all of you, her great supporters - there are just too many pictures to put in here, so I made an album.

We thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

What a wonderful tribute to a very amazing being. We will be thinking of you.

Kathi and the Turbotail April Angel...and the Labradork

Murphy is a five year old Lab/Chessie cross. He was hit by a car on 10/29/12 and became a Tripawd on 11/24/12. On 2/5/13, he had a total hip replacement on his remaining back leg. He has absolutely no idea that he has only three legs!

UPDATE: Murphy lived his life to the fullest, right up until an aggressive bone lesion took him across the Rainbow Bridge on April 9, 2015 and he gained his membership in the April Angels. Run free, my love. You deserve it!

A month since she left.

I feel like she had a really special purpose in my life, and only now that she's gone can I really embrace how amazing she was. I lost a part of me when she left, and I have no idea if I will ever get that limb back, you know?

Working through all this grief with art, really.

Wow, you are so dang talented. These are beautiful and an unforgettable tribute to your once-in-a-lifetime Athla.

Creating art is such great therapy when your heart hurts. Athla is proud that you embraced your talent to help cope with your grief while honoring her spirit. So are we. We'd love to see more of your work.

These are beautiful and I hope, cathartic for you. It is true that you feel like a part of your soul / body / spirit dies along with them. The loss is great and painful. Over 2 1/2 years and I sometimes feel like it was yesterday.

I wish I could have found something to help me through the darkest times .. I usually write and went to Shelby's blog .. I still write on it here and now .. more of a letter to keep her spirit alive. I know Athla is with you always and her paws are guiding you through your pain.

Sending love!

Shelby Lynne; Jack Russell/Shiba Inu mix. Proud member of the April Angels of 2014.

October 15, 2000 to April 8, 2014

Our story: Broke rear leg in June 2013 - non-conclusive results for cancer so leg was plated and pinned. Enlarged spleen in September 2013 and had it removed and was diagnosed with Hemangiosarcoma and started chemotherapy. Became a Tripawd January 8th, 2014 and definitive Hemangiosarcoma diagnosis. Three major surgeries in 7 months and Shelby took them all like a champ only to lose her battle to cancer in her brain. We had 8 amazing extra months together and no regrets. #shelbystrong #loveofmylife

Those are amazing, you can see the heart and soul in each of them.

There was a purpose for your journey together, I know that it is true. Both the good times and the hard times bring lessons and inspiration.  I found the purpose behind my journey with Maggie, it will be apparent to you too.
